Summary: The Spine is dealing with recent events as best he can--as well as that creepy feeling that sleeping in his dormitory room may not be the wisest thing to do.
Warnings: Robots?

Floor Sixty-One

[A week or so ago, The Spine had been directed to this floor if he wished to see the sky. There certainly was a sky to see, but it was not the one he had hoped for. For one thing, there were far too many eyes. He stands just inside the door, brim of his fedora pushed up with a silver finger as he regards the clouds and mountains with evident suspicion.]

Floor Five

[As dangerous as exploring could be in the Tower, The Spine was restless, particularly after discovering that the sky he had been promised was as false as everything else in this place. It's beginning to get to him, this knowledge that nothing is real. Nothing, except the souls that he and his brother shouldn't by rights have. The souls that made death, real death, a possibility.

He finds his way to the viewing stations and stays there for a while, expression impassive as he stares at the ruin of his world.]

Floor Twenty-Eight: Day

[The Spine can be found standing near the back wall with a guitar in his hands, playing as he quietly sings one of two songs.]

Floor Twenty-Eight: Night

[Night time will find two automatons sitting close in the music room. Being surrounded by instruments is a great comfort, as is the presence of each to the other. They might not need to sleep, but wandering the hallways at night is dangerous--as is, The Spine feels certain, staying in their rooms where something lurks beneath their beds.

...It's a bit difficult to ignore the way some of the instruments occasionally play snippets of unsettling, unearthly tunes. No stasis time will be had this night for the silver automaton.]

[Smiling is a step in the right direction! Which is...whatever direction "less depressed" is currently in. And if just looking at the accordion makes him smile, playing it probably has a pretty good chance of helping him cheer up a little, right?

Her own smile turns impish, and her tone is playful as she says]

Hmm~ I dunno if I believe you. You might have to prove it.

[Oh no. Don't encourage Rabbit to play the accordion, Miss Rise, there's a 50/50 chance you'll get an indescribable din.]

I, uh...

[But one look at his brother and The Spine just can't make himself go through with trying to put a stop to it. Whatever happens, happens. As long as it makes Rabbit happy he'll bear with it.]

It's true, he is pretty darn good with it when he wants to be.

[Yes do encourage Rabbit to play the accordion. He promises he won't make a mess of it. He's already grinning. No Spine he has to show off now, he has to do it. And he's gonna do a damn good job of it too.]

Tha-that's right. One of the best! Ain't n-nobody in the band as good as me at it!

[He plays a chord, before sliding through a scale quickly]

I g-got yer proof! I can prove it any da-day of the week!

[And... something befitting the mood of the tower at the moment]

[At first Rise just stares, wide-eyed and open-mouthed, because man is he good. She hadn't known what to expect really, though The Spine's momentary hesitance had made her wonder a little if she should be worried...but any hint of worry dissipated entirely when Rabbit actually started to play. She's beaming well before he finishes playing, and gives an excited little bounce as she claps enthusiastically. She loves music, what can she say? And live music is the best of all! \(^∇^)/]

Wow! You're right, you're pretty awesome! You said you're in a band? That's definitely no surprise!

[She turns her smile on The Spine as well.] Are you in the band, too?

[Oh, good. It's actually music that comes out of the accordion. The Spine aims a small smile at Rabbit and squeezes his shoulder before turning his attention back to Rise.]

Yeah, I am. Or... was, I suppose would be more correct. We're singin' musical automatons. That's what we were built for.

[We'll just forget their re-purposing as war machines, shall we?]

Rabbit here picks up the more, uh, unusual instruments.

We're still a ba-band! Just a band of two! We ca-ca-can still make music like this, don't be so depressing, Spine.

[Rabbit could still play and sing and so could The Spine, there was no need to tack in 'was' anywhere in there. ]

They're the be-best instruments. Gives the act character, yanno.

It must've been nice to always know your purpose, that you were made for something so great.

[She might sound just the tiniest bit wistful there, but it's fleeting, and totally gone as she keeps chatting away and asking questions.]

And yeah, of course you can still be a band! How many people do you normally have, though? And are you all robots?

[That would definitely make for a pretty interesting band. Even just one robot would make it pretty interesting, really. Too bad all the members of Gas Chamber had vanished--these guys could've been an awesome addition to Gas Chamber: Tower Addition!]

Instruments like that are eye-catching for sure! You don't see a lot of bands these days with accordions. But maybe there would be if more people could play like that! And...[...suddenly she's...not so sure she should ask...]...what other "unusual instruments" is he talking about?

[And again, directed solely at The Spine,]

What do you play? I can only play the piano a little.

I, uh, suppose it is.

[Not really, but he isn't going to say as much. Knowing your purpose has a way of removing the potential to aspire to more, didn't it?

So many questions. The Spine tries to find a suitable place to interject. There... isn't really one, at least not until he's directly addressed.]

Uh... Mostly guitar, Miss Rise. Electric acoustic, sometimes bass. I'm also programmed to play keyboard--pianos, too.

[Rabbit liked his purpose. Thought it was a pretty bangin' purpose actually.]

I play the me-melodica too. Accordion an' melodica. Spine here has a whole bu-bunch of instruments he plays, he's real talented.

Hey, it's better than not having any idea what you're supposed to do, isn't it? Or if you're even meant to do anything at all...

[Figuring out that sort of thing was pretty hard; knowing for sure that you even had a purpose might be pretty nice. Of course, then you'd probably worry that it was the only thing you were good for...so it wasn't exactly easy either way, was it.

Melodica? Hmm, Rise's...actually not 100% sure she knows what that is. But that, plus guitar, bass, keyboard, accordion...that's a pretty decent selection of instruments. :D]

So what kind of music do you guys play?

[Definitely programming, and if the situation were different The Spine would suspect that Rabbit was trying to butter him up to slip something by him.

As it is, he gives the copper automaton's shoulders a light squeeze.]

Nothin' particular. We've picked up a lot of influences over the years--swing, croonin', the British Invasion.

[HARMONIES, man. All of the harmonies.]

[...That sounded way classier than the kind of stuff she did. Or maybe it was just different, really. Their clothes and their designs both looked pretty Western, probably American--somehow she really doubted they were from any world's Japan--so that sort of difference was only to be expected.]

Sounds pretty cool! Maybe I'll get to hear you guys play sometime, huh?
