(Room 1-07)

[Hello new roommates; you're in for a lot of swearing. First as Amelia wakes up from her sleep paralysis, even more when she reads the intro letters. And then when she discovers what absolutely (not) vital items are in her trunk. Nice to meet you too.]


(Dormitory Floor 1)

[There's a young woman wandering the hallways, looking more than a little lost in an oversized Christmas sweater that is still not quite long enough to get away with being a dress. She's trying to make the leggings-as-pants look work for her with the jumpsuit.

Also, she has wings. Large brown feathery ones. If you know your raptor taxonomy, they most closely resemble those of a bald eagle.]

(Floor 1 - Cafeteria)

[Okay, so she might have woken up in some weirdo tower with crazy people, but when she eventually makes her way to the cafeteria floor, Amelia is finally in her element. Chocolate pancakes, chocolate milk, all sorts of muffins? Yes please.

Forget oatmeal, that's boring.]

Yeah! [America bounces a few times and then puts his rabbit down to let it wander around the meadow for a while.] Flying, flying!

[ladyliberty]

[She folds the sweater up and lays it to the side-- she looks like even more of a dork now, but only the baby is around to see, anyway-- and takes a few running steps before leaping into the air. Just don't overthink it.

She flaps her wings to gain altitude and then opens them wide to catch an updraft, spreading her limbs so they'll catch the breeze. That's it, that's the stuff.]

[colonial]

[America's eyes light up as she gains altitude.] You're flying! [He runs after her on the ground, chasing her shadow excitedly.]

[ladyliberty]

[Amelia does a few more swoops and loops to show off before coming back to land.]

[colonial]

[America runs in excited circles around her as she comes in to land.] I wanna fly, too!

[ladyliberty]

[Poop. She was hoping he wouldn't say that.]

I can't... really fly while I'm holding anything. Sorry.

[colonial]

Awww, how come? [America jumps around her anyway.]

[ladyliberty]

It makes me too heavy, and my wings can't hold me up anymore. But I'm working on it! Maybe one day I'll be able to fly you around.

[colonial]

Yeah! And if stuff's too heavy for you I can carry it.

[ladyliberty]

[She ruffles his hair a bit.] Sounds like a plan.

[colonial]

[Grinning!] Oh, I already know your name, but I'm America!

[ladyliberty]

That's a cute name. It's nice to meet you, America.

[colonial]

It's nice to meet you, too! [Reaching up to shake her hand.] You're new here, right?

[ladyliberty]

I just woke up here this morning... I still don't really know what's going on yet. [She'd kind of distracted herself with flying, and trying to entertain the kid, but the anxiety was creeping back in.]

Do you live here?

[colonial]

Well, not really, but for right now. I woke up here too, but a year ago. So I guess I live here for now.

[ladyliberty]

A whole year?

[colonial]

Well, it's July now, so a year and a month.

[ladyliberty]

So we're really trapped here.

[colonial]

Yeah... But just until we break out!

[ladyliberty]

That's right. I bet lots of people are trying, right?

[colonial]

[Nodding!] I'm gonna try, too! I'm pretty strong.

[ladyliberty]

[She smiles a bit again.] So it totally won't be much longer.

[colonial]

Right! [Beaming!] A bunch've people are gonna not go to the collar checkup thing and I'm gonna not go, too.

[ladyliberty]

Checkup? [She rubs absently at the collar around her own neck.] What is it for?

[colonial]

They take all the stuff in your collar out and put new stuff in. You gotta go every other week.
