Characters: Riku [AU3] and YOU!
Setting: All over the tower. Graveyard for the final scene.
Format: Action, please
Summary: For more than a year, Riku's worried about the state of his universe. His friends, his home, the unfinished business he left behind. When the shadows come out to play, those worries start to suffocate him.
Warnings: Shadows
[There's no escape.
As Riku barrels through the halls and up and down the steps, he's trailed. Stalked. Grinning shadows pursue him no matter where he goes, speaking in voices he knows. Voices he missed.
But it's not right. Something's off. Skidding to a stop in one of the dormitory halls, he shouts:]
Stop! Just... go away!
[The shadows do as he requests, but their grins remain. One in particular slithers closer to him.]
But, Riku, I thought you missed us...
[His eyes pop wide open, and he staggers backwards.]
Kairi...?
[The shadow nods.]
And you know I've missed you too. [She steps closer.] Why did you leave us, Riku? We were supposed to find Sora together! But now we never will.
[More voices chime in.]
Yeah, and what about us, pal?
We were supposed to find the King! I bet he would've been able to save us.
[No. Not Donald and Goofy, too! They wouldn't... Surely they'd know he never asked for this! As a knot forms in the pit of Riku's stomach, he rips his eyes away from the shadows and bolts again.
He runs and he runs, stopping on a variety of floors, but the shadows remain, shouting, crying, and whispering, and chanting words of disappointment. Sorrow, anger, fear.
Eventually, he's cornered on the graveyard floor, shadows encircling him. Grinning. Staring. More voices speak up.]
You wretched child. It is because of you that all of the worlds have fallen into disarray. It is worse than letting those Nobodies triumph; now there is nothing. Nothing remains, and you alone are to blame.
[He winces, slamming his eyes shut.]
That's not true! If I'd have known what was coming, I would've stepped in. I would've stopped it.
Is that so? Then, tell me, why leave the Door to Darkness open? Who is to say that your selfish act was not a catalyst? It's pitiful, really... [The shadow steps closer, chuckling.] Now, darkness truly is all that remains of us.
[Riku's fingers roll into tight fists. He jerks forward, snarling at the shadow.]
Shut up! I didn't ask you, Ansem.
Then what about me?
[Sora. Immediately, the fire in Riku fizzles away. His back bumps into one of the gravestones, and he struggles to look away.]
You were supposed to be the hero, Riku, and look at what's happened. I can't help you anymore. None of us can. And you even replaced me with that other Sora...
I didn't--
Don't lie! I know you have. And why? Is it 'cause he's got a Keyblade? Is that it?
[The shadow stomps closer and closer. Riku's legs refuse to cooperate. One hand reaches for the blackened necklace on his belt, squeezing it so hard that the metal digs into his palm.
The Kairi shadow speaks up once more.]
I loved you, you know. That's why this hurts so much, Riku. See what you've done to us? To all of us?
[It's too much. No matter where he looks, he sees black forms. White teeth, all grinning. Dizziness works its way into his head. Even when his Keyblade flashes into his grip, the shadows refuse to leave.
How can he hope to escape?]
