Well, this certainly isn't the ending he had been expecting...
Characters: Luke fon Fabre and anyone else.
Setting: Dorm room (2-12), then where ever!
Format: I'll start with prose, but will match.
Summary: He's waking up and kind of freaking out a bit? Eh, he'll calm down, eventually.
Warnings: None that I can think of!
[DORM]
Waking up is painful, actually. When the redhead finally manages to gain control over the movement of his body, he instantly realizes not only that he is nowhere he has ever even heard of, but just how creepy and twisted this place seems.
Could this place be the afterlife?
That thought has Luke sitting on the edge of the bed, looking at the floor with a mixed expression of relief (in knowing that he had succeeded in freeing Lorelei), and even a bit of confusion. He has no memory of ending up here. He has no clue how it could have happened. Then he finds the letters. Well, one looks more like an actual letter. The other, similar to a list of... rules, perhaps. He hasn’t actually read any of it, yet, as his focus is on the first. Someone seeing him would immediately be able to tell that he is in a state of shock.
This has to be a nightmare. This isn’t really happening. Those two sentences are the first to enter his mind. The next, however, actually has him on the verge of throwing up. Everyone... Everyone cannot be... His mind freezes, drawing a blank, for a moment. It seems his mind refuses to so much as think the next word, for now. When it finally regains the ability to think, one particular thought is standing out in the back of his mind, "All of that... we did... all of that..."
Luke continues the words audibly, "... for... nothing?"
His hands begins trembling as everyone's faces slowly begin creeping their way into his mind. One face, in particular, causes his breath to hitch in his throat. The stinging of his eyes slowly results in a hint of tears breaching the lower lids, "Tear...too?"
Clenching his teeth, his expression tenses. He slowly moves to his feet. No. This is all a lie. This is simply too cruel. His breathing escalates just a bit as his hands tighten into fists, before he moves the right one to one side of his head. Mere seconds tick by, before he breaks into the silence, "It's... a lie..."
A soft laugh escapes his throat, at how pitiful and foreign his own voice sounds. He looks to be completely unable to grasp the situation, as his eyes are now completely widened. His left hand quickly moves to the other side of his head. Both hands tighten into fists, clenching his short red locks firmly. He drops to his knees, panting. Luke barely recognizes his own voice as it suddenly cries out, "It has to be!"
[WHERE EVER]
He finds himself, hours later, wandering the hallways sort of aimlessly. Luke had been very glad to find his clothes in that trunk, along with several other fairly useful things. There is still confusion resting on his face, though it is now mixed with something else. Luke seems sort of lost at the moment. Pausing in front of a window, he stares out at the fog. This place... What the hell is this place? Is he really stuck here, without a choice? This can't seriously be happening, right? The questions are asked without much drive behind them. Luke's expression softens, and he is looking down at the floor with a fairly sad expression filling his face.
Everyone... Could they all really be gone?
"Tear... Everyone... I'm sorry."
Apologizing only seems fitting. He knows this is completely out of his hands, but he also feels he must apologize at how things have turned out. If their world is truly gone, he is sorry that he could not do anything to stop it. If his friends and family are truly dead, then he is sorry that there is nothing he could have done to save them. No matter how it works out, he is simply sorry for it. The thing that is truly sinking into his mind, though, is that... he may never see any of them ever again. Ignoring the sick feeling in his stomach, he begins walking.

SRY TEAR BUT YOU SHOULDA KNEW'D IT WERE COMIN'
He doesn't say anything, for now. Any words would probably get stuck in his throat, right now, anyway. Closing his eyes for a moment, Luke has to fight to pull away. He pauses a moment, before looking at her. He tenses a moment, a soft sound escaping from the back of his throat. So many things he wants to ask, tell... and...
"What's the last thing you remember, before ...waking up here?"
He probably should have asked that before spontaneously hugging her, right? Oh well, he won't regret it, either way. It would be too late, after all.
1/2 :: Yeah, maybe she did? but god it still doesn't help her! damn it Luke ;o;
It wasn't the truth but she hoped. Seeing him here only made it more painful for her, but it was relieving still to know that he was alive and well, not dead. She doesn't know what to do. The silence continued to envelope the hallways they are standing in. She's taken by surprise as he he reaches for her and then pulling her to him, a small tint of colour spread across her face as he hugged her tightly.
"L-Luke?"
It was confusing because she's not sure how she should be reacting to this. She expected him to reach out to her because she was always there for him but there was still getting used to. Slowly, she brought her arms up to return his embrace, with a bit of awkwardness. Tear was not used to this and it would take some time before she could casually do this sort of act. She was still rather innocent for someone who was always wearing a serious expression.

She trailed off. Van, her brother. She still thinks of him from time to time. Van might have had irrational ways of going about his goals, but he was still her brother. She couldn't bring herself to hate him, but what had become of him?

He studies her face, a moment. It's funny how simply seeing her is... almost enough to make this place entirely bearable. Luke does his best not to relax, completely. Really, it still seems too good to be true, that she is here. He is half expecting himself to wake up in the bed, back in his dorm room, finding out that he had simply dreamed this part. Closing his eyes, he pauses. When he opens them, they are studying the floor rather intensely. So, she is from nearly the same time period as him. A small feeling of relief washes over, before followed, once again, by the reminder to not get too comfortable. He decides to focus on he question. Whether, or not, he is willing to relax into the comfort of having her, he still wishes to get this off of his chest. But...
How can he answer her question?
Green eyes slowly lift to meet her face, an unsure gaze within them. A gentle smile breaks, "You're from an earlier time, than me, then..."
That would buy him a couple of seconds to think, a little more. First, and foremost, he decides to start with the general information of where he is from. She deserves to know, after all. He promised her that he would never hold back information, after all. A promise is a promise.
"I'm from... after freeing Lorelei," he starts, "... and, I... don't know how much time I have left. Do the same rules apply to me? I'm not technically... dying, so... If I disappear, will I simply... disappear? Or will I keep coming back, over and over?"
A soft sound emits from the back of his throat, before he quickly looks away. Damn it, he doesn't want to depress her. He doesn't want to say things that could make her cry. Shifting, he scratches the back of his head, "Sorry, I... shouldn't have said all that."

She knew that he was dying, that one day he would disappear, but it didn't make the situation any less saddening to her. She didn't want to lose him. She didn't want to lose someone who was trying so hard to survive. He wasn't even alive for that long and yet he was dying. There was nothing she could do about his fonons dispersing and decomposing. It was a fate worse than dying, disappearing. She didn't allow herself to cry, and kept her expression as collected as she could but it was hard when everything was crumbling piece by piece.
She continued to gaze at him after a moment, worry lined her face.
"Earlier? Do you mean you are from a later time, Luke?"
How much later was he? She wanted to know. She didn't want to think that everything was destroyed by her brother, by Van/
"I...am unsure."
She replied, her tone lowering because of what he was saying. He was dying? He really was dying. The reality of it continued to slap her in the face. She didn't even know if he was going to disappear or even how these artificial bodies functioned.
"But our souls are the only things that inhabit these artificial bodies. There is a good chance that nothing will happen, Luke. At least, I hope that it is the case. I...don't want you to keep...disappearing."
At least, she hoped it didn't. She was trying to keep herself from becoming sad because he was dying, and he was disappearing. So, it also meant that they were able to stop her brother. She wanted to think that way, but she also felt sad knowing that her brother might be dead for all she knew.
"...What about Va- my brother?"
She mused lowly.
She shook her head as he said that, "It's alright. I'm always watching you aren't I?"
She tried to offer him a small smile.

"We defeated him. You used the Grand Fonic Hymn, and... it was over," he leaned back, finally releasing her from his grasp, "Thanks to that, though, the world was saved."
In spite of the doubt there, he was determined to believe that Auldrant was fine--that he would, one day, return.
"You were very strong, Tear. Even though it was hard, you remained firm," he offered her a forced smile, "I always knew you were strong, but you really showed it that day."
He was trying very hard to make her feel better about everything. Not that he did not mean those words--he meant them with everything in him. He had been proud of her for standing strong--more than she'd ever know, probably. In spite of how everything had started between them, she had easily become one of the most important people, to him. He valued her opinion, and wanted nothing more than to see her smile, right now. It would probably make things... a little easier on both of them, if (at the very least) she could feel some happiness, right now. That, alone, would be enough to make him feel a little better about the situation, at hand.

There was a long silence when the answer came. It wasn't unexpected. They all knew what they were going for when they stepped into Auldrant. Tear knew that she had to fight her brother regardless of the situation. Tear's expression changed for a moment, showing the visible pain she felt on hearing it, but her hair covered her face as she spoke, so her facial expression was unreadable.
"I see, so we were able to stop Van."
It was a relief, but pain still tugged at her chest as she stayed there, unmoving and still in Luke's embrace. She was strong until the end, and she didn't waver. That was all she needed to hear, but it still hurts to know that she was able to pull through even with all the pain. The pain continued to weigh heavily on her as he finished.
"Thank you," was the only quiet response he got from the fonist after another long pause.
She knew that he was saying it because he cared and because he was honest. Tear also knew that Luke was important to her and that she would always do anything to protect him along with all her friends, and her allies. Without Luke and without her friends, she wouldn't have become the persons he was today.

"I promised not to even hide anything, again, didn't I? Besides, you deserve the truth." Just... not the pain that came with it, "It's alright to cry, you know."
His voice was soft as he said that, and a hand moved to gently rest on the back of her head. Suddenly, he didn't care about his own fears and guilt. Really, he couldn't even feel his own misery, anymore. What misery, though? He had Tear to look after, now. She was here, and... as long as that remained the case, he could withstand anything the Tower threw his way. He didn't really care what happened to him, as long as he could continue protecting her ...and everyone else he cared about. Luke would fight to keep them safe.

Tear wanted to be strong, not just for Luke, but for herself and everyone else. She still wanted to be strong for Luke because she knew that he had been through a lot and so did everyone else in her party. They all had their burdens to bear. She was no one special. She wanted to at least be a pillar to support them when they were unable to support themselves. Tear was fiercely loyal to her companions. She would never do anything to disappoint them.
She couldn't cry and she wouldn't cry, because it didn't do anything. It served no purpose here. If she cried and fell to pieces, nothing would be done. She had to keep her mask for the sake of her own sanity because she had people she wanted to protect her, people that she cherished.
"Yes, I know," she replied to him in a low tone, feeling him pull her closer to him. The fluster on her face remained, only because they were rather close and he was comforting her. She was still rather innocent and foreign to gestures like this. She didn't quite fully understand them, but she did feel at peace because of it. The hand rested on the back of her head and she wasn't sure how to react. They were close, closer than she was used to but she knew he was only trying to help her.
"Crying won't solve anything," she finally added, keeping her voice even. Her form was still, uncertain of how to react to his affection. She was content, and relieved that he was safe, and alive. That was also what mattered. Everyone was alive and not dead.
Disgustingly late, I know. /cries in hands and is sorry it's going to be very very short
"I know. Crying doesn't solve anything, visibly--but... it can make you feel better. So..."
He leaves it at that and offers her a gentle smile. Really, Luke can't express how nice it is to have her around. It hurts that she is in a place like this, yes, but... that selfish part of him--just like with any other person--is glad to have her company. It's comforting, as per human nature.
so late myself and it's okay!!! :|
"I'm fine," she replied to him, almost robotically. He was right, she wasn't fine but she didn't need to worry him. She was going to get through this somehow and accept that Van wasn't alive. There had been things she wanted to say to him, things she wanted to remind him before this inevitable wake up call. She didn't really understand it herself, but she feels somewhat at ease when she was around him.
Something that she didn't expect to feel around other people. She didn't understand it herself, but she was trying.
"Thank you...Luke."
THIS... was another one I had to hunt the thread down for... ;;;
He tilts his head a bit and pulls back, scratching his head a moment, the other hand lowering to his side. Letting out a sigh, he spoke in a firmer tone, "So, what now?"
He gestures around him, implying that he's referring to the tower, in general, "What's the point in this place? I heard we can't leave, but that there's people working on getting us out of here. "
sdkghsgdsgs it's okayyy it happens ><
There's still a faint tinge of pink on her face, but everything else seemed intact. She was still getting used to the physical contact that Luke had given her. Especially when they were in that position for a while before he let her go.
"Until we've fulfilled our purpose in the tower, we are unable to escape. Even if there are people attempting to do such things, it appears to be futile at the moment."
That didn't stop people from trying, however, "We fight to survive in this tower. There are things they are capable of that we have little or no control over."

Their purpose? What was their purpose, though? Were they really just a game, of some sort? The redhead gave a confused frown, for a moment. That was no good, obviously--it meant they were trapped. Of course... Luke couldn't help but to find himself not entirely in despair over that. If he did go home...
... would he simply disappear, there? What would leaving the Tower accomplish, exactly? Where would they go from the Tower? For now, he would simply stop thinking about that. Right now, he would just appreciate the fact that he was not alone.
"I already spoke with Asch about some things; and, he explained that we're all from separate Auldrants. He said there's another me who's actually Asch's twin brother... and that there's been more than one you."
He scratches the side of his head a moment, looking down. A faint smile rests on his lips.
"I have to say, this is still very hard to accept, or even come close to understanding. All I know is that I plan on figuring it out. I won't let these people treat the ones I care about this way," he says this with determination, before looking back up at her, "I'll help find a way to get you all back home--to your Auldrants." He left himself out of the equation on purpose, actually.
"I know it's been about survival up until this point, but I'm going to make sure it's about more than just that. This isn't going to be mere survival--it will be about overcoming these Administrators and letting them know they picked the wrong world to take people from! We didn't fight as hard as we did, to land in some Tower, and struggle to survive each day! We're all strong, and we're more than capable of winning this!"
He had managed to get worked up, gradually, as he spoke. By the end of it, he manages a grin and firm nod. He hopes she doesn't point out that he had said 'you all back home', instead of 'us all'. He doesn't want to have to explain why he is unsure of even wanting to go back.

The tower wanted things from them, and Tear wasn't sure what exactly, but she was told that they had to accomplish a task that this tower wanted in order to save this place and their own worlds. It was as if they had to return the favour of having their souls spirited from their own respective worlds to this artifical one. Tear didn't want to think about anymore than Luke did, but was difficult considering all of their current situations. Tear didn't want to think about what would happen to Luke here in the tower. She was already aware of his condition and she wondered how it would be maintained here.
Would he keep being the way he was, or start disappearing? Those things made her worry.Death was not permanent but the thought of death and having to go through it many times, would be painful and messed up.
"Yes, Asch as told me the same thing. I've spoken to the other Luke. He doesn't seem much different from your past self."
The only difference was that he was Asch's brother in that timeline. She had only spoken to him once or twice before she found Luke over here, "It will take some time to adjust. I myself, have been in the same situation. It is not easy to know all of this."
She modded her head to his words. He was right after all. She didn't completely accept everything either. She was still trying to grasp everything slowly, "I share the same sentiment."
She didn't continue because Luke suddenly got extremely energetic about wanting to save everyone again. Not that she minded. It seemed refreshing to see him the way he is now. It had been a long journey for all of them, and she had always been watching him since he asked her to. She didn't like that he seemed to omit himself from the sentences but she didn't want to question them, yet she was concerned about why he was saying it like that. Unfortunately, for Luke, Tear wasn't going to let that go unnoticed. No matter how strong those words were and how much she appreciated them, he was still forgetting the most important person, himself.
"Do you not mean us all, Luke?" she mused sternly, her expression becoming serious.
