To see a world in a grain of sand
Characters: Kirei Kotomine and OPEN
Setting: The Dormitories (1-04). Floor forty-eight (the graveyard). Aaaand wildcard meanderings which you can happily place at your leisure!
Format: Brackets.
Summary: Kirei wakes in the Tower and explores his new surroundings.
Warnings: General disclaimer that Kirei is an awful person, discussions of suicide in his thread with Claudia, and specifics will be added as necessary.
Dormitories
[ He reads the letter, and he feels nothing.
What should he feel? Sorrow? Perhaps another person would label his utter lack of response as a state of shock or disbelief, as if he were denying the gravity of the message. However, while Kirei is reserved about taking those words as full truth, it is not a fool's hope which motivates him to such skepticism. What was lost in that world that he could mourn? Very little, in the end.
However, there is the War he left behind – and with it, he left behind the Grail, and his one chance to have his questions answered.
Perhaps it isn't nothing after all, but the feeling in his chest is not that of an honest man. But does it matter? Now, there is no remaining trace of his life save for a trunk of impersonal, unimportant things.
Regardless, he opens it, changes into his vestments, and exits into the hall. ]
Floor Forty-Eight
[ It is only natural that he finds himself in a place like this.
The graveyard stretches before him: like an echo of the world which he has been told is gone. He steps toward and kneels before a stone, trying to read its worn lettering with no success. It is difficult for him to determine why he makes the effort; perhaps he expects to see a name he recognizes.
Perhaps he expects to see his own. ]
Wandering
[ It is similar to the day he woke with the Command Spells, in a way, when he finds himself in this place. He was thrust into a world of unknown to him, of magi and their Holy Grail War. At the beginning, he had not understood his involvement in such a battle. Then, he spoke to Archer...
Perhaps this Tower is the same: he does not understand it now, but he can explore. He can discover more of it, and of himself.
But will what he finds favor him, or destroy him? ]

Did you secretly find out all of my desires and deliberately involve them in this tag or...
Regardless, it would mean little to steal a Servant now; there is nothing to fight for. There is no Grail here. So, why does that thought linger so persistently?
There is nothing to betray the class of the Servant which rises to greet him. Naked as he is, there is no dress nor weaponry to even give an indication. He speaks with formality, but that is no great hint; every Heroic Spirit came from a time long past.
Another man might have been flustered by such an appearance, but Kirei feels neither scandalized nor amused. He has the concept of modesty, of course, as any should, but he is likewise taught to not find God's creations shameful. There is a small hypocrisy in that, one he could detect even as a child, and he learned quickly that it was not considered proper to draw attention to such contradictions.
Kirei bows his head, bending much lower than Lancelot's simple nod. ]
Pardon my intrusion.
Yes. For they are also Mine.
You do not require my Pardon, though since you ask for it I will give it all the same.
I am Lancelot, Knight of the Lake-- and I am much mistaken if you have not but lately come to this Place.
[Other Servants may hide their identities if they wish, but Lancelot does not care to. Why should he, after all? Powerful and deadly as he is, he Fears no one. To give his class or his Master's name unasked to a Stranger, however, is another matter entirely.
swoons into your arms
On that thought: is he one of the Servants here still bound by contract, or not? ]
You are not mistaken; my name is Kirei Kotomine and I have only just arrived.
[ He glances towards the pool which Lancelot rose from, and he remarks, absently: ] I've heard this place is dangerous; I wouldn't imagine many rendering themselves so vulnerable in stripping bare to swim, under those circumstances. [ That said, his eyes wander back to Lancelot. ]
However, you surely would have no need for such concerns, Knight of the Lake.
You are Princess Carried.
[The name is unfamiliar to him, and indeed, why should he know it? Still, there is the man's Prana to consider.
Reminded of his Nudity, Lancelot moves to clothe himself. Making short work of his habitual dark suit, shirt and tie, he turns to the Priest once more as he pulls on his gloves, the soft, dark leather cleaving closely to his long hands. His hair yet spills around his shoulders.]
Though I do sense, Father, that you are far from defenseless.
[Not only the Prana tells him this. The man has the Physique of a powerful fighter.]
just what i always wanted
However, I am not equipped to combat a Servant.
[ He says this a bit boldly, but there is no threat in the address. They can sense one another, so there is no point in hiding the subject. ]
I have found many here so far, who know of the Holy Grail War. Is your Master here, Knight?
You've made me so Happy.
Yes, you are correct in that. Though it is plain you are-- capable.
My Master is here in this Place, though we came to it apart.
Indeed, I am far from the only Servant in this fell Tower, but I am-- fortunate in my Master's presence.
Have you a Servant then, Priest Kotomine? In whatever War you fight?
no YOU have fulfilled so many dreams right now
No. I have lost my Servant. However, the Grail still asks something of me.
[ That is evident in the mark on the back of his hand. ]
But I suppose that does not matter now.
Harder/Better/Faster/Stronger fulfillment of dreams from here on out!
He glances at the livid mark on the Priest's hand, then looks back to the the man's face. Unreadable. The face of a Confessor, void of Judgement or Passion.]
No, Priest, it does not matter-- for the Time being.
Nor does your lack of a Servant. You seem steeled as to the nature of this place, insofar as you know of it, and of a courage to make your own Way in it without Aid.
Your time at War must have schooled you well, to be still chosen of the Grail-- and who was your Servant then?
no subject
[ He speaks this plainly, without sounding full of regret or angered by his own defeat. He is merely stating facts. ]
I was told to pursue another.
[ It is unclear whether he intends to follow that advice. ]
no subject
I see.
My Master is the Magus Kariya Matou.
He and I came to this Place separately, as I have said-- from the same War, which is here known as the Fourth, but from different moments in our War.
There is-- much Rumor here concerning the Nature of the Grail, and of the Wars in its Name. Doubtless you have your own views, Priest.
[He had once been a religious man, albeit one with a feverishly pagan, passionate heart, but he had forsaken the Love of God for an Earthly one. In the End he had become a priest himself, a thing he seldom thinks on. But this Man's presence, the fact of his priesthood, brings it to mind.]
no subject
[ He repeats the name, his voice quiet and carrying an edge of shock. Berserker's true name... as he thinks on the matter, it becomes more obvious to him. Within the Tower, he is different. Purer. Untainted by the title given to him by the Grail. ]
You are different now. [ He speaks, regarding Lancelot with a new interest. ] Freed from the cage of madness.
no subject
In this Place, I am like myself as I was in Life-- and yet, not. But I have been Dead to the World for an Age.
Do you know my Master, then? Priest?
no subject
Our paths did not cross in this War, before my time here. Perhaps that is for the best.
no subject
[Lancelot, still shoeless, looks into the Priest's eyes.]
Many make mistake of thinking my Master a Weak Man, but his appearance belies his Spirit-- and his Servant is far from Weak.
no subject
[ He says this honestly. Kirei Kotomine is not a foolish man. ]
It was merely curiosity.
[ But that is something new for him as well. ]
Will no one rid me of this Turbulent Priest? <3
Your pardon then, my Master's welfare is my chief concern. In this Place, his health is not so dire, yet he still does Suffer his affliction.
But as we who fight for the Grail seem drawn close in this place, it will likely not be long before you meet him.
