002 Acts of Kindness
Characters: Darres & Anyone
Setting: Floor 3 (Library), 10 (Aquarium), 19 (Sec. Library)
Format: Either
Summary: Darres is going about some of his usual routines around the tower.
Warnings: None?
[Floor 3 (Library)]
[Darres was in here for the same reason he always came to this floor. The knight was in search for some decent, non-dark story books to read to Quark. The knight was even more protective of the child than he use to be. Having the kid die in his arms, anyone would become more caring of another. While death was not permanent here, it still pang him that he wasn't able to prevent it. The best he could do was try to keep the kid from slipping into the darkness that the tower taunted its residents with. This round, Darres was in search of particularly happy stories he could read to Quark. He could be found around the library collecting books.]
[Floor 10 (Aquarium)]
[The aquarium was more therapeutic for the knight than anything. He was continually rattled as his stay here grew longer. Back home he wasn't quite so useless as he was finding himself to be here. He wanted to save those who wanted it. Darres wants to help those who couldn't help themselves, but he was finding it to be rather difficult with how he was thwarted.
The knight was peacefully stationed in part of the aquarium where the fish roamed freely. Jumping from tank to tank and going about their business as if he wasn't here. There was a certain beauty to them that he found to be soothing. It was a nice break from the chaos that constantly plagued the tower. He himself was almost at peace?]
[Floor 19 (Second Library)]
[Darres decided it was time he really buckled down and hit the books to better his knowledge of things outside of his world. He wasn't sure how long he was going to be away from it, and as far as he was concerned, knowledge was a useful tool in various situations. The knight was diligently digging through the science portion of the library trying to better himself in the science field. From what he's gathered, the tower was full of this theme.]

[Darres glanced at his books momentarily.
"The Basic's of Machines and "How Electricity Came to Be."
He wondered what other books would be relative to these subjects. The science section was so large. It was rather intimidating. The knight glanced back at the other.]
There are some tables nearby if you want to read in the library.

Ah... yeah. I was planning on it, actually. [He glanced back at the stranger, then he eyes landed on the books. Machines and electricity? That seemed like something guy would like... His eyes lingered on the books for a bit, before he looked away. Even though he'd never wish for Guy to be in a place like this, he still misses him. Luke sighed and realized he had just been standing there, looking sad. He offered a nervous smile and firmly scratched the side of his head.]
... Sorry about that.

[He already did like to read some things that taught him more than just sword fighting or Artes (not that they have anything on that last one, that he knew of). As long as they weren't super incredibly boring, that is.
Thinking he was about to die any second, though, had him wanting to do things differently. He wanted to learn everything he could, tell people things ]
So, ...what are those books about, exactly? [Machines, he knew. What was electricity, though?]
no subject
[Darres shifted through some of the pages of the top one, that being the machines.]
The first one contains knowledge about...technology. [He was lucky to have read so many books already so he was able to describe things better than he use to.] My world is what some people would describe as medieval. We don't have any fancy...gizmos or anything like that. [It really left him in the dark about a lot of things here so he was hoping to change that.]
The second one is about electricity. From what I've read already, some machinery run off this power source, and [hm] worlds.
no subject
[He let out a soft laugh, before speaking in a sympathetic tone.] I guess it must have been hard for you when you first got here, then...huh? Harder than for most, anyway. [His expression softened on that last sentence.]
Oh, and I'm completely lost with the electricity one. I might actually read about that, whenever you're done.

I have things to fight for here. [It was all the motivation he needed to better himself.] I can't afford to be on the lower ground. Not when I have others to protect.
[Oh...he was getting carried away. Darres reverted back to the other topic.]
There's many books on this electricity subject. I just pulled one about it's history. There's other more descriptive books. I can show you the aisle I found it in?
no subject
You've got a good point there... Heh. Which is why I'm doing the same thing. [Tear's here... and so are some of his other friends. He must work hard, too. He completely agreed with Darres' reasoning, there.]
[To the mentioning of Darres showing him where he got the book, he smiled.] Okay, that sounds great!

[Darres would have managed a smile, but really he actually wasn't in a very cheerful mood. All of this book diving was bringing up past conflicts with a former associate he use to know who lost his life back home. Darres was doing the very thing he would have done had he been here.]
Alright. [The tall knight stepped off to the side and beelined in somewhat of a quick pace, given his height and profession. Really it took all of a few minutes to get to the right one.] These few shelves all contain books on electricity, energy, and general power sources. They could prove to be useful.

Alright, thanks! ... Hey, are you alright? [He knows that look, sir.]

[Really he didn't want to give Luke the impression that he has weaknesses. He was use to being under pressure constantly, and being ran dry. These weren't new to him. He's had his weaknesses exploited before, but never to this degree or where he couldn't turn it into his advantage.]
One of these night help out. [He's referring to the books.]
no subject
Yeah, ...maybe.
