Summary: The event is over and everyone who was stuck in the dorms needs a serious bath.
Warnings: Post-event shenanigans? Also baths so p much everyone is at least partially naked.

And so now that you've made your way free of the hell that is the dorm rooms -

This floor mimics a sauna--there are three entrances: one for men, one for women, and one for mixed. Inside each room is the wooden interior one would expect. Outside each area is a small changing room with lockers--if you look, you'll find one with your name on it. The locker will only open up for you. It might be a good place to store things, actually...

- it's time for everyone to take a bath! There's both hot, steamy stalls and large hot spring pools - but you'd better hurry! It's gonna get crowded in here kind of fast.

And hey, keep that towel closed, there's children in here!

I am tempted to ask my brother to keep things quiet, but I am half afraid of bringing it up again. Maybe if I just don't say anything else he will be distracted by Asagi and forget about it.

[Diarmuid falls quiet at Waver's next words, folding his arms around himself as if he is almost trying to hide something or hold something back.]

I'm...worried about going there again, Waver. Going to that place where I stop being able to care about myself and just focus on everyone else. It always backfires and I just end up hurting those I care about. I got very close to that this time, but I pulled myself back. What if I can't next time?

[Waver frowned, letting the ice melt and the light in his Magic Crest fade.]

Then I'll punch some sense into your stupid thick head. Isn't that obvious? It isn't as though you're left entirely to your own devices to be an idiot; there's still myself, your brother, and several others around to support you.

[Diarmuid laughs a little embarrassed, though he can't deny Waver's point.]

Yes...you're right. But aren't you worried about breaking your hand? I've got a pretty thick skull. Perhaps not so thick as my brother's, but...

[Deadpan:] I'm ambidextrous, I'll use the other one.

[Diarmuid laughs again and this time it is a much happier sound.]

Lets just hope it never comes to that. I prefer your hands unbroken by my stupidity.

[A curious glint suddenly sparks in his eyes.]

Do you have other tricks to show me?

Without any kind of preparation or inscription, there's not much I can do past simple things with ice. Nothing particularly special.

That's okay. Would you show me the simple things anyway?

[Diarmuid draws a hand up out of the water, watching the water that drips off his fingers for a moment before smiling, almost child-like, at Waver.]

I can't do even those simple things, remember. To me they aren't the simple things at all. They are the impossible.

[It was nigh impossible to deny when asked like that. Having even what amounted to a useless trick met with admiration was a very strange feeling even now.]

...Fire is an element of fueling and energy consumption--as you'd expect, it also includes controlling heat. Wind is about motion and energy in several forms; to control it opens up the possibility of lightning magecraft. Earth is associated with metals, and its use is mostly forms of cultivating magical energy.

[As he spoke, Waver started to form a slightly larger amount of ice, concentrating on forming it into the shape of small crossed lances.]

Water, however, is something of a versatile base. It moves and flows in simple cycles and takes a number of forms. And as an element, it's so commonplace that it's easy to forget about if you're setting up defenses--that's how I was able to track down Caster so easily.

[Again, Diarmuid's hand tentatively reaches out to touch the small ice figure, and again he pulls back just before he touches it.]

Water is a good match for you. You are both often dismissed as being weak and ordinary when you are anything but and are a lot stronger than anyone gives you credit for.

[His voice suddenly becomes softer.]

An agent of change and a sustainer of life.

[Waver's face flushed dark red as Diarmuid spoke--odds were very good it wasn't only because of the sauna and active Magic Circuits raising his body temperature.]

I-...it was too simple. That's probably why no one else thought of it. [He shook his head, concentration faltering enough for the figure to melt.]

And you're trying to flatter over something that's just natural. There's nothing special to any one element over another. Some even have dual affinities or even all five, like Tohsaka.

[Diarmuid frowns, partly because of Waver's words and partly because his words have distracted Waver enough to cause him to let the figure melt.]

There is nothing wrong with simple. Honestly, the more complex something is, the higher chance of failure there is. Kayneth turned most of hotel we were staying in into this complex maze of magical traps and then didn't protect the lowest floors of the hotel. Because of that overlook, we lost our first base of operations to a simple bomb.

Simple can win a war, Waver. You shouldn't underestimate it.

[He tilts his head forward, giving Waver a hard look.]

And how many times must I tell you I don't flatter? I just speak the truth.

You must be fucking joking. [Waver sighed, exasperated.] Christ, and he thought I was the useless one. Goddamned magi.

Either way I'd still call it flattery whether you meant to or not.

I wish I were. Betrayal aside, is it any wonder I have so little faith in most magi? How do you spend so much time fortifying a position only to leave the gates wide open?

[Diarmuid shakes his head and then, in a moment of mischievousness, sticks his tongue out at Waver.]

It's not flattery. It's the truth. Just accept it already. Don't make me dunk you.

I wish I could say he was the exception, but no. Most of them really are that oblivious. Magi just don't think to account for the possibility of things like explosives or conventional weaponry or common fucking sense.

[Waver frowned at Diarmuid's gesture in halfhearted annoyance.]

If that's the alternative, I might not have a choice.

I cannot understand why magi allow themselves to have such a weakness. I don't understand even more so now that I have been shown how bad it is to allow oneself to approach the modern day with a dated mindset. Why do they do it? I could see just not using technology, but you need to at least understand and account for it since not everyone is going to think the same way as you.

[When Diarmuid sees Waver's frown, he frowns as well...and then promptly splashes water at the other man.]

That's right, you don't unless you really want to see if I could manage to dunk you. The water is your element after all. It would probably work against me.

Why, I have no idea. Ages and ages of tradition they're afraid to let go of, most likely.

[A sigh.]

Tch...I probably could, you know.

[Diarmuid leans toward Waver and grins.]

If I say I want to see you try, will you accept the challenge?

Are you that intent on causing trouble?

I'm not causing trouble.

[He winks at Waver mischievously.]

I'm being distracted. Isn't that what you wanted?

Not at the cost of causing an enormous scene, no.

So we just make a small scene. You and me.

[Diarmuid flicks some water at him.]

Or are you afraid you will lose to me after all?

I--wh-what kind of question is that?!

It's the question of a man who is apparently determined to cause trouble.

[Diarmuid flicks more water Waver's way.]

So answer the question. Are you afraid?

I'm not afraid of you or a little water, thank you very much.

[Diarmuid raises an eyebrow at Waver, tensing slightly as if he is about to dash into battle...or just try really hard to dunk someone.]
