The Perils of Kariya Matou
Characters: Kariya & OPEN
Setting: Various floors, throughout the end of the month and maybe into the next.
Format: Action, but will match prose
Summary: Kariya wanders away from Lancelot at various times and has misadventures.
Warnings: Death is quite possible! Also body horror, blood, insects.
Notes: Kariya finds himself in a series of dangerous situations. Will he die? Will he be saved? (Or will someone hasten his death?) Feel free to rescue him from (almost) certain death or disaster! Or give him further problems to deal with. I also don't mind different people replying to the same prompts; Kariya can just have extra misfortune.
Floor 15:
[Some might argue that Kariya shouldn't wander away from Lancelot. He's sick and weak and his thinking is impaired, and he only has one arm. Yet Kariya is nothing if not stubborn, and sometimes he likes to be by himself, to do things for himself. Yet this doesn't always work out as well as he might hopeā¦
The workshop floor seems relatively safe. He wasn't expecting to find monsters here during the daytime. The miniblin aren't much of a threat to someone stronger in combat, but this is Kariya. The creatures swarm toward him, and he knows that if he doesn't do something, he'll be injured and will likely die. He's weak and sick and lacking an arm, but he doesn't want to die. He doesn't have a weapon. He has no choice. He sends out his crest worms. The creatures burst out through his skin and then from his mouth as he vomits them up. The worms quickly grow and twist, turning into large, wasplike creatures that divebomb the attacking miniblin. As they fight, Kariya slumps to the ground, bleeding, breathing hard. If the monsters don't kill him, the blood loss might.]
Floor 87:
[As Kariya wanders into the field of poppies, something seems wrong, but he can't quite say what. He frequently visits the meadow on floor twenty-five to relax. Isn't that where he is? He looks around and blinks. It's different, but that doesn't mean too much when everything is an illusion. Maybe they changed the flowers here for some reason.
With a sigh, Kariya sinks to his knees, then sits, then lies down. He feels so tired, but that's nothing new. He should sleep. For a little while.]
Floor 36:
[Trapped on the crumbling staircase, without the use of any magecraft to help himself, Kariya stumbles and flails, trying to keep his balance. For a moment, he succeeds, only to find himself on a single stair between two gaps, each much too large for him to leap over. He stares. What is he supposed to do now? At any moment, this remaining stair might crumble beneath him too, but if he tries to jump, he'll likely plummet to his death.]
Floor 60:
[He'd been thinking of Sakura, remembering how she'd loved to cook, even as a little girl, so the kitchen seemed like a natural place to look for her. He's sure Sakura's here somewhere. She can't be gone, can she?]
Sakura?
[He walks into the freezer without thinking of it, and the door swings shut behind him. Blinking, he turns to open it again and leave, as Sakura isn't there, but it doesn't move. It's--locked? He pulls at it again and shivers inside his hoodie. It's so cold in here. He knocks on the door.]
Sakura...? Hello?
Floor 85:
[How did this even happen? He didn't mean to enter this floor, but now he's midway down a slide and hanging on to the edge, pushing with his feet against the sides, trying to prevent himself from sliding down any further. He hates slides. He remembers being forcibly pushed down them as a child. Unashamedly, Kariya starts to cry.]
Floor 96:
[The white is very calming, and there don't seem to be any monsters present. It's a very nice floor. Peaceful. Kariya wonders why he doesn't spend more time here. He sinks into the chair and shortly closes his eyes, letting out a long breath. Maybe this is a better floor to rest on.]

I'm truly sorry his magic is so gross
He retched again, spitting up more blood and worms. The worms began to grow almost at once, their bodies becoming more insectlike, sprouting wings, teeth, until they were identical to the large, carnivorous wasps already flying around the workshop.
He sent them forth to help Annika. They attacked the miniblin facing her, tearing into them with both teeth and their blade-sharp wings, stripping the flesh from their bodies.]
No no, this is fantastic. In a gross way.
What th...
[And then there was more wretching from the infested man, and then there were more bugs, and then they were rushing past her, tearing into the miniblins. She skidded to a stop, stabilized herself, stared at them, stared at him... and then used this as a chance to drop one last burst of fire on the lot of them to end this whole mess. It wasn't as careful as it could have been. It would very likely consume any worm-wasps that were still chewing their way through the monsters. But, as far as she saw it, it had to be done.
Still, she was on edge. Her arms lowered and she shifted to a cringing sorto of posture, as she made her way over to Kariya.] Are... ["Are you okay?" did not seem like an appropriate question. He was not the least bit okay.] ...would you like me to bring you to a healer?
[She knelt before him, careful to keep out of the blood that had pooled on the floor. At this range, it would be obvious that she wasn't quite "alright", either. The mage that had just helped him was an animated corpse.]
haha good!
He curls up on the floor. So--it's over. That's good. He looks up at Annika as she approaches. He can see that there's something different about her. She's not human, is she? For the Tower, that isn't particularly strange, and he's not clear-headed enough in his current state to puzzle it out. He knows that she helped him, that's all. He's grateful.]
Thank you... [He nods, weakly.] Yes.
I play a zombie, worms are no problem :D
I'm... not sure if I can lift you. But I can support you, and we can walk downstairs together. Here, here... [She leaned back, cupped her hands, and murmured a few soft words of magic. A clear glass vial of water appeared in her grasp with a faint chime. She then offered it to Kariya.] Do you think you can drink something? Here. This might help. [If he seemed to need help to sit, she'd try to provide that, too. If he can get a bit of the water past his lips, he'd find it to be cold, and refreshing, and if at all relevant to his current state of being, infused with magical energy. Hopefully it wouldn't aggravate the worms...]
Excellent! And also, sorry about my speed
All right. I think I can--do that.
[He was going to try, anyway.
When he senses the magic, he flinches, as if expecting a blow, but none comes, and he relaxes slightly. He studies the vial, but it doesn't seem to be harmful. It looks like water. He's not really in a position to protest. If someone wanted to harm him, he wouldn't be able to do much about it, except summon more crest worms, which effort would be almost sure to kill him at this point. He took the water and swallowed.
Kariya's eyes widened. Responding to the increase in energy, the worms, who fed on it, stirred, excited by this small feast. Kariya let out a groan as more blood spilled from his mouth.]
No problem! Also, I was pretty sure the worms were going to do that....
Your illness, it's... [Edging in closer, she reached out to place a hand on his shoulder, which she then drew back with a frown. He wasn't just infested with bugs, but with magic. It felt midway between a curse and a magical disease. Those things did not need feeding.]
I... I'm sorry. I'm so sorry. Let's just... take a moment, and you can catch your breath. Alright? I'll wait here with you. I'll wait here as long as you need. [Even if as long as he needed was long enough to finally succumb to his infestation. She could sit with the dead. She had done it before.]
...what's your name? I'm Annika. [Anything to keep the conversation going, and maybe keep his mind off his pain.]
Yes, the worms are jerks
It's--fine. You didn't know. Thank you. For trying.
[He nods.]
Usually it's not so bad. I should have gone to the healer sooner.
[He also shouldn't have gone off by himself. He knows that, but sometimes it's difficult not to. Sometimes he doesn't think as clearly as he should.]
I'm Kariya.
Stupid worms >:(
[He likely doesn't want to hear it, but she's not keen on stopping herself. This is fascinating and alarming and new and if his health seemed any less soap-bubble fragile, she'd likely be trying to take notes.]
Does it help, then? Healing magic? They're reactive to mana infusion, but... but oh, if they're healing your body and specifically excluding the infestation, then I suppose that would be helpful!
...er...
Kariya? [She doesn't quite pronounce it properly, and is aware of it, so she grimaces before continuing.] It's very nice to meet you. I mean it. I do.
They're the worst
[He doesn't seem to mind listening to her. He turns his head so he can watch her with his one good eye. She looks very strange to him, but that doesn't mean anything here. He doesn't ask about it. It's not as if he doesn't know about the undead, not that he has much experience with them, his father's oddness aside.]
It depends. Right, you have to do it right. Sometimes they get angry. Sometimes--they don't realize it.
[It's hard to explain, not only because of his state of his current mind, but because in some ways, he knows so little about them. It's not as if Zouken was about to tell him how to heal his infestation.]
Yes. Kariya. [He doesn't mind her mispronunciation.] It's nice to meet you, too.
[He coughs again.]
I'm sorry... that we met this way...
[It's probably not the time to be apologizing.]
