the flight of icarus
Characters: Terra-Xehanort (
terra_nullius) and anyone who wishes to see what he's up to
Setting: Assorted floors, but primarily floor 91
Format: Action to start, will do prose if you desire
Summary: Derpface is bored and wants to try something particularly foolish, so he prepares for death.
Warnings: None that I can think of, will update.
Floor 15
[His first stop for the day is the workshop, where he takes a bit of time selecting some hard wood and cutting it carefully into long strips. He finds some hinges, and screws them into place, and adds some other attachments to the things to create what looks like two large, open-ended frames of some sort that can pop open to lock into place. Satisfied with the clumsy construction, he slings them over his shoulder and departs.]
Floor 51
[How amusing. Floor 51 is his next destination, after floor 15... fitting. He opens up his frame and spreads it out, before selecting a swatch of random fabric. He begins to clumsily sew the fabric onto the frame, giving it the appearance of half of a large kite. It's quite large, so it does take a long time, and he mutters and yelps as he pricks his finger numerous times. The second half he switches to a red fabric to avoid the visible dots of red that become more numerous on the first one. Not that it'll matter in the end, he muses.
When the second frame is finally finished, he takes off his shirt and lays it out, with the frames on either side. Then he begins to sew the things on to his shirt. When that is finished, he does the same with his pants. This takes much longer, as the cold temperatures leave him shivering and his fingers not cooperating quite as well.
When he's finally finished he puts on his clothes awkwardly, snapping the frames closed so that they're not up and making him look bigger than he actually is. It's not perfect, but it'll work well enough for what he wants to try. With the frames open, they look almost like patagia, extending from his arms out to his feet. Like some sort of humanoid flying squirrel. With that step complete, he departs as well.]
Floor 91
[With a rough ability to glide and control his descent somewhat, he now comes to the highest point he can tell opens to the outside of the world of the Tower. Staring out over the abyss, all he can see is the cloud layer. What lies beneath that? Is there a vista to behold? Is there nothing but ravaged land? There's no real answer forthcoming. The only way to find out fur certain is to jump.
He walks all the way back to the staircase, preparing for a final run to give himself momentum for when he jumps off the edge.]

What're you doing?

I'm constructing a frame with a hinge so that it can flex outward and hold, but can be folded to keep it out of the way as well.

[All Roxas can do for a moment is gasp softly.]
Xemnas...
no subject
[He puts down the screwdriver to look up at Roxas curiously.]
no subject
[Roxas nods in understanding. He's also been told about the timeline thing, and he's sorry for the mix up. Even if he was Xemnas, he might not be his Xemnas.]
I don't know him very well, he was in charge of the Organization, but when I left, they were trying to eliminate me.

Oh, white-haired man! It's good to see you again! Are you okay?! What are you making?!
no subject
It's going to be part of a frame. This hinge is fitted so that it can snap outward and hold its shape.
[He demonstrates with the half-finished hinge.]
no subject
Oh..but what's a frame?! And what are you gonna do with it?! Fight monsters?
no subject
A frame is the part that goes around the outside to make it look like what it's supposed to. This is going to be a rather crude-looking wing. I'm making it because I want to try something.
no subject
Really?! You're gonna try and fly?! That's awesome! Can Yotsuba fly too?!

[Rei pokes her face over the man's shoulder, watching him stretch cloth over the frames.]
Ooh! That looks cool!
no subject
Ahh--! I was attempting to attach this fabric onto the frame.
[He pops his injured finger into his mouth irritably. Not againnnn...]
no subject
[She watches him nurse his wounded finger.]
Is your hand okay? Do you want me to get you a band-aid?
no subject
[He takes his finger out of his mouth long enough to show that the others have been pricked in various places as well.] I'm not terribly good at this, but with any luck the stitching will hold long enough for what I need it to do.
no subject
[She kneels down and looks at the piece of work that has caused its maker such trouble.]
You need help or anything?
[Not like she wouldn't prick herself. She would just heal from any pricking.]

I suppose one could call it a rather rough wing.

*Aircraft hadn't been invented in his time yet, and he'd never encountered them either here or in Meridian. The tale of Icarus was from another location - and time - entirely. Sure, there were Azazel's flying machines, but those were made to resemble flies, making him think of them in terms of their own entities rather than being crafted automatons despite logically knowing this. So Enoch didn't come to the conclusion that he was making wings to fly with. For some sort of sculpture, perhaps?*
What for?
no subject
[He punctuates his words with the twist of the screw, face screwing up slightly as the screw digs deeper into the wood and he has to put more into turning the screwdriver.]
no subject
*A little knowledge beforehand couldn't hurt, could it?*

sob and I get to this point late. Sorry RL slowed me down so much....
it's okay, I've been on holiday myself

Sitting around and waiting wasn't going to change anything. Climbing to the top of the tower probably wasn't, either, but at least it was something to do.
Which is the only reason why he climbs up to the open floor, not initially planning on stopping until he sees someone familiar backing up to the staircase.
So naturally this is a chance to walk up and be nosy.]
Hey, what are you doing?
no subject
[It's said matter of factly as he prepares himself, making sure that his homemade gliding apparatus is ready for his downward hurtle.]
After all, everyone says that I should go ahead and try whatever I want to try in order to learn more. So if I have to throw myself off of this building in order to learn something, I will.

[While a while ago Sora would have been against people recklessly throwing their lives away to make progress - and he still wasn't really comfortable with the idea - it's gotten to the point where, sometimes, that's was only way to get things done, like with that big infiltration they all tried. Everyone comes back afterwards, anyway, and Sora hopes that won't change anytime soon.
That wasn't where his reaction was coming from - he wasn't shocked by the idea so much as he was confused.]
Um...how are you going to learn anything from that?
no subject
[He shrugs, which looks odd with the contraption attached to him.]
I don't see the harm in it. Besides, the brief feeling of flight will be quite worth it regardless of what happens.
no subject
[Maybe? He's really not sure if he's following right.
It does kind of make sense, though...]
