Characters: Lord Grumpypants, Diarmuid, Diarmuid's idiot brothers, the extended family, and open to their CR and anyone that just wants to drop by.
Setting: Floor 81
Format: Party style, whichever format you prefer
Summary: ~~When two busybodies start plotting, all hell breaks loose.~~ "Waver's Anniversary" (or more informally known as Waver and Diarmuid's wedding party.) It's just a party. Nothing to see here. That cake is white just by... accident... and decorated to match the rings... yeeeeeeep... complete accident.
Warnings: Someone may decide to drown a couple people... who knows.

[In case someone is observant enough to notice, Waver and Diarmuid have been wearing matching rings... and under the disguise of a convenient excuse, that being Waver's one year anniversary in the Tower, Lancer and Reno have thrown a party to celebrate.

Keeping the relationship a perfect secret, of course. It's just a party. Good times, shooting the breeze, card games. Unfortunately, there's no booze. The lounge has been set up with a buffet with food from the Floor Sixty Kitchen, and there's a cake.

The cake happens to be white, and decorated. And that celtic knot decoration may just be matching the rings. Complete accident, of course.]

[Diarmuid's expression softens when Shion approaches. It's hard to stay upset when he has been told just who put so much effort into making the cake.]

The cake is beautiful, Shion. That's why I wouldn't allow Waver to throw Reno into it. You went to a lot of effort for us. Thank you.

[Oh look! A wild hug appears!]

[He returned the hug] I'm glad you didn't let him, it would have been a waste. I'm glad you like it.

I do...and please don't let how upset Waver is bother you. He...just doesn't take to this kind of thing well.

[Diarmuid sighs, gaze locking sadly on Waver's back for a moment.]

I am glad he has made new friends, but he is never going to be one to be comfortable with this kind of thing in public. Sometimes...our family is too good at figuring things out, if you know what I mean.

[He is grateful to his brother and Reno for their efforts. He understands that they are just trying to show how much they care, but Waver...isn't going to be able to see it that way. Perhaps, not even after he has had time to cool down a little.]

I know... I think he is just embarassed... [Shion blinked] But he shouldn't be, it's a good thing that you can get married, even in a place like this

He's embarrassed, but...he's also worried.

[Diarmuid sighs, releasing Shion from the hug and finally looks at him again.]

He told me he is afraid this will be used against us and will keep up from being able to do what we have to do. That is why we kept it so quiet for so long. Not that it seems like we were really all that successful. I think most everyone knew anyway...

[And that is probably his fault. It's hard for him to keep quiet about things that make him really happy and this makes him really happy. Even when he doesn't say anything, people just know.]

I think... even if family can be used against you, it is always better to be with those you care about [Shion knew he wouldn't be able to cope without his family, they where who made him sane and kept him grounded.]

I think most people know, yes. You say a lot more by not saying anything I think.

[Diarmuid laughs.]

I wonder what he would think if he knew being quiet gave it away more than anything we said...

[He shakes his head and then sighs.]

You are right, though, and I think they can only use our bonds against us if we let them. It gives them a target, but taking that target is a double-edged sword. Yes, it's someone important and it will hurt which might make us weaker, but we are going to fight even harder to get them back and that makes us more dangerous. There is no 'might' in that either. We will fight harder to get that person back. A lot harder.

Exactly, they can hurt us more than anything with those we care about... [He pauses, breathes, banishes Rat's face from his mind.

His face takes on a steely look all of a sudden, his eyes glinting, almost dangerously]

But they will be the ones who will cry in the end.

Shion...?

[Diarmuid's hand closes lightly over the boy's shoulder as worry enters his eyes. He wants to ask if something has happened, but he knows it's a stupid question. Something always happens here.]

Do you want to talk? We can step away from everyone for a moment. I don't mind...

[Shion takes another breath and the hardness in his eyes disappear and he smiles, his normal sweet smile] No, it's okay, you should enjoy the party.

Shion...I don't want you to hide things from me. If you need to talk, I am more than glad to.

[To be honest, he will worry more now if Shion tries to hide whatever is bothering him than if the boy just tells him and they talk about it.]

If you must, call it thanks for all the work you put into the cake, though I like to think that because you are family to me that we don't need reasons like that to talk...

I know. [He smiled] I'm fine though, nothing has happened. [At least nothing since Jason's death] I don't want to take you from your friends, Reno said we would be doing some training soon, so we can talk then.

Are you positive?

[The smile helps, but Diarmuid is well aware of how easy it is to hide behind a smile. However, considering the progress he has seen Shion make lately, he hopes that smile is less of a mask and more the real thing.]

We should talk soon. I am free whenever you want to meet. Just let me know.

[Shion nodded and leaned forwards to hug Diarmuid tightly] We will, but first you have to enjoy yourself [And make sure Waver doesn't murder Reno, one of the main reasons Shion isn't too keen on moving with Diarmuid out of where he can see both and keep an eye on them.]

[Diarmuid returns the hug happily.]

I will do my best. I am really more worried about Waver managing to relax enough to enjoy it. At least I managed to get him to promise not to kill Reno or my brother. It's a step...

It's a start, and I think he might enjoy it anyways... even if it is hard for him to show it.

About a week from now once the anger passes, perhaps.

[When he's alone and no one is around to see the slight smile that tugs at the corner of his mouth for about a second...]

I will make sure to find him in a weeks time, and record his reactions. [Shion smiled softly]

[Diarmuid laughs and waves a finger jokingly at Shion.]

Just make sure he never knows you did....and then share it with me.

Reno trained me, I am good at being stealthy.

Thankfully, he doesn't have to teach you common sense.

[Diarmuid winks jokingly at Shion.]

I'm not so sure Reno has enough of that to teach anyone anything about it.

He does. [His voice is a bit sharp, someone is over protective] He just forgets sometimes.

[Diarmuid holds up his hands defensively.]

Easy, Shion. I was only joking. No insult was intended at all. He is my brother and I would never say something to hurt him.

I know... I'm sorry. [He looked sorry] I should go and find Xion... but I hope you enjoy the rest of the party.

It's okay.

[Diarmuid steps forward wishing to give Shion another hug before he goes.]

Tell her hi for me, okay? Just in case I am too busy to keeping your father alive to do it myself?
