Characters: Lord Grumpypants, Diarmuid, Diarmuid's idiot brothers, the extended family, and open to their CR and anyone that just wants to drop by.
Setting: Floor 81
Format: Party style, whichever format you prefer
Summary: ~~When two busybodies start plotting, all hell breaks loose.~~ "Waver's Anniversary" (or more informally known as Waver and Diarmuid's wedding party.) It's just a party. Nothing to see here. That cake is white just by... accident... and decorated to match the rings... yeeeeeeep... complete accident.
Warnings: Someone may decide to drown a couple people... who knows.

[In case someone is observant enough to notice, Waver and Diarmuid have been wearing matching rings... and under the disguise of a convenient excuse, that being Waver's one year anniversary in the Tower, Lancer and Reno have thrown a party to celebrate.

Keeping the relationship a perfect secret, of course. It's just a party. Good times, shooting the breeze, card games. Unfortunately, there's no booze. The lounge has been set up with a buffet with food from the Floor Sixty Kitchen, and there's a cake.

The cake happens to be white, and decorated. And that celtic knot decoration may just be matching the rings. Complete accident, of course.]

Shinji? Little blue-haired pain in the neck?

[Diarmuid rolls his eyes and then shakes his head.]

I am sure Lancelot will watch over him while you get some rest. He would not let any harm come to a child no matter how annoying he might be. Besides, Shinji was friends with the younger Sephiroth while he was in the Tower. I am sure he learned a thing or two about protecting himself from him.

That's him [Suzaku nodded] I know, and I know Shinji is capable of looking after himself [He tells Suzaku this on a weekly basis] I still feel responsible.

Well, if you haven't let him know that you feel that way already, I wouldn't recommend it. I tried to help him when he first got here and...

[Diarmuid shrugs. It was a mess. That's really the only way to describe it.]

He's lucky to have such good people taking care of him despite how he treats them...

He just... [Suzaku shrugged, he's fond of the kid really. And he's gotten pretty good at talking to him, without making him fly into a mood] I think I was a bit like him when I was a kid.

[Never that rude though]

Really?

[Diarmuid blinks in surprise.]

I find that hard to imagine. Then again, I find it hard to imagine any kid like him. Kids with that kind of attitude did not survive in my time...

Well I was not as rude as him, if I had been Toudoh would have beat me in sparring until I couldn't see straight.

[But there's still a streak of stubbornness that they share.]

It is a shame he doesn't have someone to beat that rudeness out of him. It would do him good...

[Diarmuid shakes his head.]

Perhaps, his good qualities would shine brighter if the rudeness was dulled.

Not sure he would be up for it. [He shook his head] They shine when he is not actively hiding them, he had stood to protect me a few times, even when it would put himself in harms way.

[Diarmuid raises a surprised eyebrow. He has to admit that he is a little surprised to hear that Shinji would risk himself for anyone...]

Then perhaps there is hope. Good luck with him. He is very intelligent and I would hate to see him lose the chance to use that just because of his temperament.

He is, not that this place is any good for him. [It wasn't good for anyone] But I will try my best.

[Considering Shinji's attitude, Diarmuid's not so sure the boy's world is any better for him than this one, but since he knows almost nothing about Shinji's world, he says nothing.]

Try your best to remember to take care of yourself too.

[Diarmuid gives Suzaku a stern look.]

I mean it. If you can't rest in your room...

I will [He looked down at that look, he was trying. He just... the last month he knew he had reverted to a lot of his old ways, avoiding people.] Thank you

[Diarmuid nods in understanding.]

It's been a...hard month and it's probably not going to get easier.

[He reaches out to give Suzaku's shoulder a squeeze.]

Don't pull away from your family now that you have it, okay?

[He nodded] I'll try [It was hard, when all his instincts told him to withdraw

I know you will and I will try as well. If I notice you disappearing a lot or not looking well...

[Suzaku is his brother after all even if that concept is still hard for the man to accept.]

You don't have to. [The response came automatically before he looked down] I mean... [He shrugged. The concept was hard and people looking out for him was something he was still getting used to]

[Diarmuid gives him an understanding look.]

I know what you mean, don't worry. I will answer you the same way I always answer Waver. I don't help because I need to. I do it because I want to.

I know. [Suzaku nodded] And I appreciate it [More than he could express]

[Diarmuid returns his nod and then tries to smile.]

We should talk of happier things, this is a party, after all. How do you think Waver will eventually get them back? You and I both know he will...

[Suzaku nodded] I couldn't begin to guess, but they should probably lay low for a while, how long do you think he can hold a grudge for?

[Diarmuid raises an eyebrow at Suzaku.]

I don't think you want me to answer that...

I do. I believe it may be vital information in case I ever accidentally get on his bad side.

Try really hard not to.

[Diarmuid sighs.]

Honestly, it's hard to get him to really hold a grudge. He might be mad for a while, but in the end he knows what is important and what isn't. However, if you do ever make him really mad by messing with those few things that trigger him...I am sorry. I don't know if he will ever get over that.

[Though, so far, the only people Diarmuid can really think of that fall into that category of people who will never be forgiven are Kayneth, Sephiroth, and Ruana.]

[Suzaku nodded] Then I shall try my very best not to.

[His very best, though he can guess that one of Waver's triggers will be Diarmuid being hurt, and it only adds to Suzaku's worry that one day he will be forced to betray him, leave him for dead or even kill him.

And it won't be the first time someone has hated him for betraying their friends to save his life]

[Diarmuid watches Suzaku in silence for a moment. His brother's expression and words are hiding something as they so often do, and, at the back of his mind, something is stirring slightly, a connection that wants to be made...that needs to be made...

Oh...]

He won't hold a grudge over something you have no control over. You know that, right?
