Setting: Floor 81
Format: Party style, whichever format you prefer
Summary: ~~When two busybodies start plotting, all hell breaks loose.~~ "Waver's Anniversary" (or more informally known as Waver and Diarmuid's wedding party.) It's just a party. Nothing to see here. That cake is white just by... accident... and decorated to match the rings... yeeeeeeep... complete accident.
Warnings: Someone may decide to drown a couple people... who knows.

[In case someone is observant enough to notice, Waver and Diarmuid have been wearing matching rings... and under the disguise of a convenient excuse, that being Waver's one year anniversary in the Tower, Lancer and Reno have thrown a party to celebrate.

Keeping the relationship a perfect secret, of course. It's just a party. Good times, shooting the breeze, card games. Unfortunately, there's no booze. The lounge has been set up with a buffet with food from the Floor Sixty Kitchen, and there's a cake.

The cake happens to be white, and decorated. And that celtic knot decoration may just be matching the rings. Complete accident, of course.]

Yeah. But if I'd told ya outright Waver or Dee might have come to strangle me, and we wouldn't have gotten to throw this party. Right?

That's true. We'll have to keep that as our secret.

[Now Reno's going deadpan, staring right into Lancer's eyes.]

...Yeah, but, can ya keep a secret?

...I'm gonna try!

[In other words, it'll probably be a secret for a day or so.]

Man, if you can't even keep that, I'm not goin' to tell ya what happened.

[Reno folds his arms and shakes his head.]

[Hearing Reno say that makes him curious, but he also knows that he isn't good at keeping secrets. Not when it's supposed to be a good thing.]

I'll wait until you're out of range to talk?

[What if it's a bad thing?

Reno gives him a funny look, like he isn't sure what he was going on about.]

Not what I meant, Cu. Can ya keep a real secret? Somethin' I really don't want getting around.

I promise I'll keep the secret for as long as I can.

Though...Diarmuid's pretty good at getting information out of me.

He already knows. I'm just figuring out if you're good with the brother thing. [He punches his shoulder lightly, letting him know he's teasing-- sort of.]

I'm fine with it. Why wouldn't I be?

[He gives Reno a love tap in return.]

[This time Reno just facepalms.]

...I broke it off with Elena.

...Wait, what?

[Lancer isn't quite sure he's heard it right.]

I gave her back the ribbon. Technically... it's not an actual break, but Elena's been taking it like one and I've barely seen her around.

[A beat.]

Don'tcha dare tell any of the kids that.

[He frowns.]

Why?

[They seemed to be such a happy couple back when they were married.]

I don't know.

[Did he? They had conversations that went nowhere. Elena never seemed to listen, even when he told her straight out.]

I'm startin' to think I was right in the first place and not the marrying type.

[No...]

...I think she started treatin' me like a project. Like she had to take care of me or she'd fall apart. Wouldn't just talk to me, she talked to everybody else. Somehow, Dee got involved. And then she took me to the ballroom.

Did she really? What did she tell you in the ballroom?

A lot of stuff.

[Honestly, he still felt his head swirling when thinking about that conversation.]

Mostly about bein' a rock and trying to be supportive... and that I never told her anything and kept things to myself. [He shrugs.] She never asked...

[Sigh.]

She said she wanted to protect me and make me happy.

...Sounds a lot like you, actually.

[He runs a hand through his hair, pulling it backward and making it spike for a moment, before it settles down.]

At least, I used to be. Got any advice, Cu?

Well, I'd say not to give up yet. You guys should sit down and talk it out. And not just by yourselves. With a mediator who understands both of you. I bet you'll figure something out then.

Talking hasn't helped for months. She's not listening too well. She didn't listen to Dee either real well from what they both said.

[Reno pauses.]

I'm not sure who the hell could even mediate. Makes me wish Rude was here.

I don't know Elena enough to try. Sorry.

Who's Rude? Another of your old comrades?

Yeah. My best friend. He's known Elena as long as I have and he's perceptive. Maybe he'd figure out why Elena is acting like that.

What about the other friends that Elena made here? Can you go talk to them?

I don't know who they are... she never tells me stuff like that.
