4. Kindness
Characters: Jade Curtiss and you! Plus a locked prompt to Fon Master Ion.
Setting: Floor 48 (graveyard), Floor Eighty-Eight (bar), Room 1-16 (Locked to Ion), early in the month.
Format: Tag in the format you like and I'll match it.
Summary: Backdated towards the beginning of the month. I meant to post this before but I have been ridic busy oh my god so many tags I haven't tagged back on I'M SORRY GUYS. Jade checks the monthly list of people who have "gone home" and finds two he knows well. A couple of open prompts, plus Jade checking up on Ion to make sure he's OK in light of this news.
Warnings: It's Jade and the topic of death and loss. Intense morbidity is sure to follow at some point, though that will be after a lot of cheerful evasiveness. For now, though, nothing in particular.
==F48/Graveyard==
It isn't the first time that Jade has visited the grave of someone he knows. It isn't even the first time since he arrived at the Tower. Given the nature of the place, it doesn't shock or surprise or even sadden him, though that's largely due to his own... shall we say, eccentricities. It's because of those eccentricities that when he realized early in the month that Tear and Anise were nowhere to be found that his first thought was to come here, so there's no way it could take him aback.
It does, however, disappoint him.
Jade had gone to a lot of effort of looking out for Tear while she had regained her true powers, and he had gone to a lot of effort having a talk with Anise in regards to Ion. No--it's more than that, of course, and he knows it. But here their names are, side by side, neatly informing the world at large that they are no longer here, regardless of any effort any of the concern parties had taken.
The red-eyed man considers the headstones for several moments. Then he adjusts his glasses, the reflected glare briefly hiding his eyes from view, and turns to walk away.
==F88/Bar==
There's something inherently wrong about a bar that doesn't have any alcohol most of the time, but it has the kind of atmosphere Jade would prefer at this point in time. The tumbler in his hand clinks with ice, though what would be a good scotch on the rocks is merely ice water. He takes a sip from it regardless, considering the smoky air in solitude.
A solitude that is likely to be broken at any moment, but one takes what one can get when one can.
==R1-16/Locked to Ion==
Gloved knuckles wrap on the door to dorm room 1-16. Room assignments had been reshuffled, but since he and Ion were both on this floor, Jade doubted that he would have been moved to. He waits patiently for someone to answer the door, and once he sees the green-haired replica, he offers him a smile and holds up a bag. It smells wonderful; inside are freshly-made curry donuts.
Well. Really they're just nutrition bars that are under the illusion of having been cooked into curry donuts, but again, one takes what one can get. Curry is a specialty of Jade's, too, so long as you like your curry spicy. Fortunately, they've been adjusted to whatever Ion's preference level is.
It's awfully nice of him, so of course he can't be straightforward about it.
"I made too many for myself, so I thought I'd stop by to share," he explains, which is technically the truth--just not the whole truth, that he made too many for himself because he was actually making enough for himself and Ion. "May I come in?"

[Diarmuid smiles and then pours some wine into both glasses. Once he has, he sets the bottle to the side and raises one of the glasses to Jade.]
Here's to surviving the Administrators' latest round of tricks. Lets hope we gained more than we lost...
[Though, Diarmuid has to admit he has a feeling that Jade's troubles are less to do with what happened to Jason and more to something that happened later. After all, the man had been in a reasonably good mood at the party.
But then again, Jade is Jade...]
no subject
Unless we figure out a solution to the overarching problems, I'm afraid ultimately we'll all lose everything.
[Jade is Jade is Jade, which means he's ever the realistic downer when the situation isn't looking good. He takes a sip of that wine. As his companion said, it's not very good, but waste not, want not.]
By the way, I'm afraid I have bad news for you.
no subject
[Diarmuid takes a sip of the wine in his glass and frowns, not at the poor taste since that had been expected, but at Jade's words.]
I was afraid of that. My guess is since you're really not been here long enough to have an opinion one way or another about Jason, this has nothing to do with that.
Who was sent home?
[It's a logical guess really considering how many have been sent away recently...]
no subject
My, my, what fervor.
[Jade is Jade is Jade, after all. He takes another sip, savoring it, as Diarmuid draws an accurate conclusion. ...He knew there was a reason he liked the Heroic Spirit. Though he won't say it, Jade respects his mental acuity.]
Tear, among others. You do seem to have bad luck with her, don't you?
no subject
I am sorry. You knew her better than I, so perhaps I should not be so upset, but...
[He shakes his head and takes another sip of his wine.]
So many have been sent away. What once filled five floors now barely fills two...
no subject
There's no need to apologize. Tear is an excellent healer and combatant; the loss of her skills is a blow.
[Oh, Jade.]
Not to mention it seems an unlikely coincidence that so many were sent away at the same time mere months before total power failure. Or are there periods like this every so often?
no subject
I have to admit, there have been times since we unknowingly triggered the power issue back in June that I have wondered if more people being sent away was some kind of punishment for what we did. We were told it needed to be done so that we could begin to start freeing ourselves, but at this rate, who will be left for us to free? Who will be left to keep fighting? Well...no we have plenty of fighters. It's the thinkers like yourself who are in shorter supply and it is they who we need to work all this stuff out...
no subject
Of course, sometimes (often (frequently)) he says awful or cold-hearted things and completely means them, but when it comes to expressing care for his companions, he's never been good at that, and while he got better at it during the course of his journey with Luke and the others, the Tower is not a good environment for it.]
Unfortunately, us thinkers have a dearth of information to work with. Oh well; there's no point in complaining about it. We'll simply have to make do with what we have.
Speaking of which, did you find anything odd or out of place about Ruana's behavior last month? Compared to her usual, that is.
no subject
[Diarmuid really hopes that is true, anyway. They are very quickly starting to run out of time...]
Ruana is unpredictable at best, but if you are specifically asking about her...habit of dealing with other Administrators, this was nothing really new sadly. Dax met his end in a similar way. Have you been told about what happened to him?
no subject
As for Dax, I know the gist of it.
no subject
[Diarmuid takes a long drink out of the glass in his hand.]
The only odd thing might be that she appeared in the maze and not in the form she usually shows herself to us as. It...has been a while since she has actually appeared in the Tower proper, and I think this is the first time people have seen her like that...
[His voice trails off as he thinks back on something.]
I wonder...was that how she appeared to those who saw her during the visions that happened during Zo's carnival?
no subject
[Jade takes another sip, listening to Diarmuid's response and considering it. She usually doesn't appear in the Tower, and the form she took might be a first...]
That I can't remark on. I know Tear had been there, but...
[But it's no longer possible to ask her if she had seen anything relevant.]
no subject
[Diarmuid shrugs and then shakes his head.]
It's all right. I was only thinking aloud. I am afraid that is probably about all I can give you since I wasn't actually down there myself. I didn't see anything first hand. Have you met my brother yet? Cu Chulainn? He was one of those down there. As was my son, Ryoji. They might be able to give you a few more answers if you talk to them.
[And speaking of Ryoji...]
Have you heard that the revival process has...changed now?
no subject
[To Jade, there's a difference between a wish and a goal, but to argue what is likely a semantic difference to Diarmuid sounds like an incredibly un-fun thing to do right now, so he instead takes another sip while his companion continues. The name of the son draws a surprised reaction.]
Ryoji? As in Ryoji Mochizuki? May I ask if he was adopted? ...As for your brother, I don't believe I have. At least, the name is unfamiliar to me.
[Then Jade nods.]
I'd heard rumors, yes. Given that Jason had been in charge of it, it makes sense. I haven't spoken to anyone yet who knows the details, though, and I'm loathe to test it myself.
no subject
[Diarmuid shrugs.]
As for my brother, if you noticed Waver threatening a man with long blue hair like he was threatening Reno at the party? That was my brother. He was the other person behind it.
[A grim look crosses Diarmuid's face.]
I have...details from first-hand experience if you want them. I didn't die, but I saw someone who had right after they were brought back. It...wasn't good.
1/2
no subject
I do. Could you tell me more, please?
no subject
Of course.
[Diarmuid takes a moment to gather his thoughts so he is sure not to forget anything.]
Obviously, it is taking longer for people to return now. Two days instead of one seems to be about the average. That isn't the bad part. The bad part is that instead of returning fully healed after death, people are coming back with serious, even life-threatening injuries. Aside from still having cuts and bruises, when my son returned, he was bleeding internally, and I suspect he might have even had a broken bone or two. Fortunately, I was able to call Waver to help. He isn't the best healer, but it was enough to stabilize him. Afterward, Ryoji went to his friend Yukiko and she is a very talented healer. She would have taken care of the rest.
Not everyone is so lucky, though. I fear for those who might return only to die again because they have no one to aid them...
no subject
Jade listens to Diarmuid's account with a frown.]
I see... That's alarming. It's as you say; in the worst-case scenario, one may be caught in a recurrent death loop. We only have so many healers in the Tower, too.
no subject
[Diarmuid's eyes grow distant as he thinks back to his owe experience during his last death. Remembering it makes him shiver.]
For all we know, those effects might become permanent much more quickly now and losing memories is nothing to mess around with. Not when they are a big part of who we are.
no subject
Indeed. If you don't have any memories of the past, can you really be said to be 'you'?
no subject
[Diarmuid's expression sours and he takes a long drink from his glass of wine.]
That is why, when we return to the Throne of Heroes and are merged again with the original, our memories are erased. We can't 'taint' the original then...
no subject
...I see.
[He swirls the remainder of his wine contemplatively. Despite how the Tower has no doubt brought him no end of unpleasant experiences, it's apparent to him that Diarmuid does not relish the prospect of his memories being erased. It's probably the principle of the matter, but even so...]
I'm truly sorry to hear that. I can see the logic in it, but I doubt that brings you any solace.
no subject
[Especially since he knows just how corrupted the Grail is. No happiness can be found from it and he is happy with Waver. Why would he wish to give that happiness up for the illusion of happiness the Grail holds?]
I suppose there is a certain logic to it, but it is not fair to the person who has been given life. I can't help but wonder how many heroes would still fight if they knew they would not get to remember getting the wish they fought so hard for...
no subject
[Jade takes another sip. He doesn't know the details of the Grail and its associated wars, having never asked, but he doesn't need to to see the broad strokes Diarmuid is painting.]
...but many humans wouldn't be satisfied with a wish that selfless.
