[Who knew being attacked by thorn covered vines could tear up your legs so much? They'd done a pretty good job of ruining her legs. Luckily, most of her cuts hadn't required stitches, but her legs were still bandaged up from ankle to thigh. She's refused to use the crutches they've offered her in a fit of stubbornness, so she's stuck on the bed.

[Her eyebrows knit together in irritation, and she sighs. She's starting to wonder if this is even worth it.]

Why not?

You know why not.

[He was slowly getting used to this whole 'her knowing the truth about everything' deal.]

[She lets out an irritated noise and flops back on the bed.]

And you know I only get mad when I find out. What is the point of hiding anything?

I like not being an open book, if you don't mind.

[He's getting a little defensive, but he's obviously trying not to.]

Look, I didn't come down here to fight.

I never said you had to be! I just don't want you to be stupid and cagey and secretive about things that are my business.

[There's a pause as she props herself up on her elbows.]

We're not fighting.

You think everything is your business.

[He walks over, knowing well that she's injured and can't move too suddenly.]

Do not!

[She totally does.]

Do too.

[She sits up and swats at him.]

Do not! Jegus, I am trying to make sure we don't fight anymore and you are being difficult!

[He doesn't bother to recoil, simply waving his hand at her in a shooshing gesture.]

You wanted honesty, that's what you're getting.

[Don't shoosh her! She huffs, grabbing for his hand.]

Fine. Promise me you won't treat me that way again, then!

[He lets her take it without fanfare.]

Fine. I promise.

[Oh. She was expecting a cagey response. She blinks.]

Good.

[He notices that and casually takes his hand back.]

What?

[She shrugs.]

I was expecting you to say you couldn't promise again.

No. I can promise that.

Good.

[She's feeling awkward again, and looks away.]

[He lets the silence hang for a minute, also looking away. Sure was awkward. But the growing feeling of guilt only makes him feel more ill.

He swallows his discomfort and tries to look at her as nonchalantly as possible.]

Did Kanaya make it alright?

[She nods.]

She's fine. She pretty much carried me down here. Are you okay?

[He knows she'll know that he's lying BUT:]

I'm fine.

[FROWNING!]

You can tell me what's wrong.

[Look, she's not demanding or anything!]

There's nothing to talk about. You saw it all.

[She shrugs, chewing on her lip.]

We should have gotten there sooner.

Wouldn't have mattered. Much as I hate to agree with the insane garden girl, Kanaya's pretty much confirmed it already.

None of us are supposed to live.

[It's not like she can really deny it, so she doesn't bother to try.]

It doesn't matter. We're stuck here anyway, right?
