Summary: The Disciple arrives and goes investigating.

[The Disciple awakes with a start, and panic sets in as she struggles to move for those first moments of being paralyzed. The moment she's free, she springs up and out of the bed in a flurry of sheets and hair. She stares around wildly, wondering if she's been captured despite her caution. In the next few minutes, she finds the letters and reads them, and then locates the chest and changes her clothing.

She slips out of the room cautiously and down the hallway, keeping herself pressed to the wall to keep as out of view as she can. But it's a little hard to hide when there's nothing in the halls to hide behind.]

[Her shoulders tense at the voice. It can't be- His death is still so fresh in her mind, she must be hearing things. Still, she turns to look, and if her heart could stop it would.]

Sign...less? But how? [Her feet move before her mind can register his words and she rushes to close the distance.]

[He blinks at her shock, but catches her eagerly and holds her close. Did she forget...?]

[She blinks back tears that threaten to fall from the relief washing over her. He's alive, he's really...]

Oh, Signless. How is this even possible? Not that I'm not thrilled, of course! But I thought- I saw-

I know. [His tone is emphatic] What you saw was real, Di. So far as I know. But the tower is bringing us in from different points in time, so it hasnt' happened to me, yet. Psi is from after my death, too.

[He shrugs] I'll just have to do my best to make sure it doesn't happen.

So is Alternia really destroyed, as the letter states? I'm afraid I can't decide if this tower is a blessing or not.

I doubt it. I mean, yeah, Alternia is destroyed, but I don't think that has anything to do with the tower. It's because of the shit I saw in my visions. This place is no blessing, Di.

Then what purpose does this tower have, if not a safe haven? What's happened?

... They experimented on Psi. On all of us, actually, but he was the worst. They took his horns, and covered him in this stuff that made his powers go haywire. [Yeah, it was horrible, and he's still pissed as hell] Then after a month of that, they just fixed him, for no reason.

[She looks suitably horrified by this explanation.]

That's... [There's no word to describe how horrible it is, so she trails off and doesn't finish the sentence.] I'm so relieved to hear that he's alright now.

We're captives, aren't we?

Yeah, we are. And Psi's all right by some sense of the word, but I wouldn't say he's 'all right'. [Sighs and squeezes] He was taken as a slave again, before coming here. And the Condesce and Dualscar are here to fuck his think pan up even more, even if we weren't prisoners.

[She chews on her lip, listening intently.]

We have to do something about this. I'm not sure what but... I can't let him suffer again. Back there, I ran and hid but I never tried to go back for anyone, and I simply cannot repeat that mistake.

Di... don't worry about that. There's nothing you could have done. [yeah, the same refrain everyone's been feeding him, but no one ever said he wasn't an enormous bulge-munching hypocrite]

I could have tried, but I didn't. My cowardice is not something I'm proud of. I want to do my best to help here.

[He snorted] That is the most ridiculous fucking thing I've ever heard spew from your wind tube, and you say some pretty silly things sometimes. In what way are you a coward? In no way, that's what.

In every way! [She frowns, brows furrowing.] I merely ran away and hid. What about that is not cowardice, Signless?

[She's angry for a moment longer before she sighs and glances away.] This is not the time to argue.

Nope. [He paps her and smiles] You did the smart thing. You couldn't have helped me, or Psi, or Dolorosa. I'm glad that you survived, so no more arguing now.

[She smiles, putting her hand over his. She still feels terrible, but she knows he's probably right about this.]

I do hope my decision was the right one. Still, I'll do my best to protect you here if I can. I won't lose you again.

[He smiles and paps her face lightly]

Likewise. Now, shall I bring you back to say hi to Psiioniic?

[⑸iioniic is curled up on his sleeping rectangle, back tucked into the corner in a reflexive defensive position, front towards the door so he can see anyone who comes in. He's reading a book he took from the library - with no personal computer to keep him occupied, he'd decided that books are the next best thing.

He looks up and smiles when Signless enters, but his eyes go wide when he sees who is behind his friend.] Di! You're here, you're okay! SS told me you were here before but he hasn't been able to find you!

[Signless grins and trots over to Psiioniic, sitting down on the sleeping rectangle as well]

Looks like she left the tower and forgot everything, but she's back now, so whatever, I guess.

Oh! [He looks at Di, flushing slightly] I forgot to mention on the way over here, but Psii and I are moirails now.

[Disciple hurries over, suddenly so relieved that she can see that he's really alright. she's worried so much over all of them since she ran. Hope you're prepared for a hug!]

Yes, I'm afraid I don't remember a thing about this place if I was here before. [She brightens at the news.]

That's wonderful! I'm happy for the both of you.

[Hugs are good! He's gotten rather used to them here in the tower, there's a lot of humans who like to hug him. And a fair number of young trolls, for that matter. He hugs her back tightly, just as happy to see her.

He does go a little tense when Signless mentions their new moiraillegiance, but relaxes again when Disciple is happy about it. He'd been a little nervous about horning in between them, which isn't normally a worry between moirails and matesprits but... well, Disciple and Signless had always had a particularly close relationship.]

Well, I can't say it's my favourite place in the world... especially after what they did to me... but considering SS is alive and I get to see you again, and I'm not wired to a ship, I'm not really complaining much. I wonder if Dolorosa is going to shop up?
