[When the Handmaid doesn't feel like thinking, she defaults to what's expected of her: That is, violence. So she's been roaming the Tower the past few days, fighting whatever monsters (or residents) she comes across. Of course, immortal doesn't mean invulnerable, so she's retreated to the spring room, which seems to be the most consistently peaceful floor, to patch herself up. The grass around her is littered with bandages, but the gash on her arm requires stitches, and she's doing a pretty sloppy job of sewing herself up. Whatever. It'll do, right? It's not like she can bleed out.]

[Stop stop stop! It takes every ounce of courage she has to touch his hand again, but this time, she actually leaves it there. She's still not looking at him, though.]

[uprisings]

[Oh...]

[Looks at her hand there. And when she leaves it, he feels a little better about taking it this time, drawing a nervous little circle against her palm just for the sake of the movement. He doesn't crumple completely, not like last time, but he does curl down, eyes locked on their hands. He still doesn't know what to do. And it feels like she's the only person he can even talk to about it, and she doesn't know either]

[This is so incredibly alien to her. Part of her wants to run again and part of her thinks this isn't so bad, and anyway, he needs it, right?

...Not that she should care whether he needs it or not. She is verging on a breakdown here.]

[uprisings]

[...well he. Lets go of her hand before long. Straightens... sort of. Don't want this to get all... mushy and gross again. He already knows how that ends, so... Little sigh]

It's okay. [...who even knows who he's saying that too, really, but it feels right so wwhatevver]

[Relief and disappointment again! She is such a wreck, but she finally peeks back up at him again.]

[HAVE THE MOST HIDEOUS shadow of his usual reassuring smile. It's kind of... terrible the way it doesn't really touch his eyes. But he's trying at least???]

[Oh noooo that is kind of terrible and she hates it and finds herself wanting to fix it, for some unfathomable reason, so she says the first thing that pops into her head:]

I won't go out at night.

[uprisings]

What...

[Oh my god??? He's really genuinely happy about that????? Yay, you win, there is definitely something relieved and happy on his face now. Maybe not as obvious as it used to be, but definitely an improvement!!!]

Uh. Good-- thank you...?

[entropied]

[Her relief mirrors his for a moment, and then her courage is gone and she ducks her head again. What is even happening to her?]

[uprisings]

[...lsjdflkjf feelings. Oh gosh, he's kind of... hesitant as hell, but after a second he reaches over and touches the top of her hand. Echoes the circle he drew on her palm and his own words: ]

[Her first instinct is to pull away, which is horrible, and her second is to take his hand, which is worse. He's comforting her and she doesn't know how to deal with it, but it's... Nice. After a long moment of fidgeting and lip biting she does take his hand though. It's an uncertain and very awkward gesture.]

[uprisings]

[OH NO FEELINGS. wheezes he is really sort of relieved that she took his hand...!!! Even if he is super unsure about pale feelings ever becoming a thing for him again, it is nice to know that she's not... flipping out about being close to him again... Squeezes her hand, trying to work out the awkwardness of it]

Are you uh... sure you aren't, hurt anywhere else? [Feels like a good time to make sure about this pfff]

[Pale feelings? What are those? She's just trying to deal with physical contact with another troll that isn't violent. This is all new and incredibly terrifying to her.]

[Well, mostly. There's nothing else he can really patch up, anyway.]

Alright. Then uh... I guess, it would be a good thing... if that continued for awhile now. [Heh...]

[She nods again. She keeps glancing at their clasped hands, because this is so incredibly weird to her.]

[Watches her... and yeah, he uh... gets that impression...!! Which is weird. It feels like she's old enough that hand holding would be a thing she's done before, but here she is... being awkward chan]

Will you, be okay now...? [...weird that he feels like he has to keep checking. But there you go]

[She is forever awkward-chan! But she nods, and then hesitates.]

[..........BAWW. He warms a little a that, something very very close to his old brightness touching his smile. Squeezes her hand again]

It uh... was my pleasure. [Huu] If you ever, need help with this kind of, thing again... I would be glad to, help.

[Wow she is actually blushing like a stupid wiggler. She ducks her head so that her hair hides her face and hopefully he can't see.]

[ljadfs........ he saw right before she ducked her head and now he's kind of... mentally keysmashing. WHY IS SHE BLUSHING OH GOSH]

We're uh... allies remember...? [This is totally what allies do. Offer to help each other with stitches and also hold hands. Yes]

[...She's not an expert on troll relationships, but she's pretty sure allies don't usually hold hands.]
