"Love Fool" Player Plot Log

Characters: Diarmuid Ua Duibhne and anyone affected by his curse or who wants to get caught up in the chaos!
Setting: March 29th-April 4th. Anywhere in the tower during the beginning of the event, primarily in and around Room 4-16 later in the event.
Format: Any!
Summary: Instead of being mostly inactive, Diarmuid's curse starts being active most of the time and it's affecting both men and women! Chaos ensues! An OOC plotting and sign up post is here.
Warnings: Death, violence, blood, worms (X.x  Kariya...), psychological torture, swearing, shenanigans of a romantic nature, and ANGST! I will update as it is needed!
Notes: Being affected by Diarmuid's curse requires a tag on his permissions post here so please make sure to stop by!  If the log gets too big, I will make a second, overflow log and link it here.  While most sections have dates on them, they are only references for the time of the week that the events are going on and not when the section is available for posting.  All sections are open for posting just as soon as the log goes up and will stay open throughout the event.

Background Information:

One of Diarmuid's most defining traits is his curse, actually a gift given to him by a spirit of love, beauty, and youth as repayment for something he did for her. Unfortunately, while something like that might be an actual gift to a fellow spirit or god, giving it to a human doesn't work quite so well. Being a honorable man, though, Diarmuid has never taken advantage of those affected by his curse. Instead, he has done his best to let them down gently and guide them through the pain caused by it. Sometimes this has worked and sometimes it hasn't. In either event, he remembers vividly every person he's ever hurt because of it.

That approach works well until the woman who falls in love with him is his Lord's fiancee and a princess who won't take no for an answer. She places a geis on him that forces him to run away with her. Many things end that night and a great many more begin. At least, that's how the legends go.

In the tower, his curse has been weakened somewhat so that it is only rarely active. However, when it activates and for how long is random, and he doesn't know when it is happening until those affected start acting oddly toward him. Those so affected seem to remain that way for a week or two and often have some success controlling their reactions to him if they have a strong will or know that they are under the curse's spell.

Event Information:

During the event instead of activating only once and a while, Diarmuid's curse will almost constantly be active. It will also affect men and women meaning that almost everyone he runs into in the tower has the chance of being affected. He will not know this right away and will continue going about his normal patrol routes, meetings, and so on until he finally realizes what is going on. Once he does, he will start hiding in his room to limit the number of people affected. However, this won't work out so well because with him staying in one place, anyone who is under the curse's spell and trying to find him isn't going to have to look very hard.

Every day he will be spending at least a little time out of his room so that a character can be hit by the curse whenever they wish to be during the event. Anyone is welcome to have their character affected whether or not they actually have CR already with Diarmuid. This is actually a good time to start up CR if you have wanted to, but not been sure how since he will be checking in with people to make sure they are okay once the effects of the curse have passed. New players are also welcome!

How strongly and how long a character is affected by the curse is totally up to that character's mun. And remember, your character doesn't have to be affected by the curse to participate! Do they want to troll Diarmuid by acting like they are affected when they aren't? Do they want to slip him a gift or thank you but have been too shy to until they have the chance to do it under the guise of something else? Might they just be passing by Room 4-16 and get caught up in a fight? Do they have a friend who is affected and are trying to 'help' them out? Anything is possible and creativity is encouraged!

Below I have set up several locations and times to have things going on, but feel free to start something elsewhere if you wish!  Private meetings between characters working together or other similar posts are welcome.  Just be sure to mark what is going on.  In an effort to try and keep everything to one log, I have made sub-headings for his Mailbox and for Network posts should characters wish to use those things as well to show their feelings. Because people are competing for his attention to the point of fighting in some cases, please be aware that I am encouraging threadjacking and sneaky tricks like stealing gifts out of his mailbox or from his room. If you want to make sure that a thread isn't interrupted by others or a gift stolen, please mark the thread's subject line with the word "Locked." Any thread marked in such a way should only have Diarmuid and the thread starter replying in it unless other arrangements have been made. All other threads are considered open for interruption, but please remember to be polite.

Important Note:  To help keep things organized, please make sure to put either "Open" or "Locked" in the subject line of all newly started threads so that people know if it is okay to jump in or not.  It is all right if you decide to change the status later in the thread--just adjust the comment title in the next post.

Diarmuid will not respond to threads that aren't marked until they are marked, and I would ask others not to either since once replied to, comments can't be edited.  Once the thread is marked, it is fair game to be replied to.

During the end of the event players will find it harder to get into Diarmuid's room because the way will be blocked. Master Kariya Matou (vermicompost ) will have ordered his Servant Berserker (chevalier_mal_fet ) to guard the door. Far from what it looks like on the outside, both men aren't trying to help protect their friend from those affected. Instead, they have also been affected and are tying to keep away all other potential suitors! Can anyone say Boss Fight? Will those affected team up to take them down or maybe just sit back and let them take out a few rivals to thin the competition? It's all up to you guys and how nuts you want to get!

Important Note:  When tagging the 'Boss Fight' section, in addition to marking your post "locked" or "open" in the subject line, please also state if your character is meeting Lancelot in his true form--which will mean having to deal with him in some way so your character can get through to the room--or in Diarmuid's form--which will mean he will greet your character and act like Diarmuid in an attempt to lead your character away from the room.  Your character is free to be fooled or see through his deception as the thread progresses. Just be aware that Lancelot's mimic ability is high level and will take either knowing Diarmuid and his quirks well or having a lot of magical knowledge to see through.

Finally, while the tone for the event is mostly fun and humorous, if you want there can be more serious consequences.  If any character is involved in a serious incident or dies because of something related to the event, please make sure you put a comment in this section with your character's name, journal, a quick blurb about what happened and, most importantly, if you want Diarmuid to know what happened. Obviously, because of his nature, he is going to want to contact anyone who is seriously impacted by or killed because of his curse.

IC Event Introducton:

The day starts off like any other for Diarmuid and for that he is glad. After all that had happened at the end of the month in February, quiet and routine days are something he is not going to argue against. Besides, with so many people who are from some version of the world he knows having arrived this month, he would really like them to have a chance to settle in before things get too chaotic again.  There are those he would also like to spend as much time with as possible before anything else happens. So many people, himself included, need as much time as they can get to just sort out the things going on in their heads.

The problem is, will the tower give that time to them?  Diarmuid knows each quiet day is one more step forward so that they can all be prepared for whatever the administrators throw at them next.

A small smile crosses his face as he takes off to make his first patrol of the tower. After that, he will probably have something to eat at the cafeteria, before taking some time to visit friends. Sometime before nightfall, he will make another patrol of the floors before retiring to his room for the night. It's a simple day and considering how quickly things can go bad in the tower when things get too complex, he's not bothered at all by that simplicity.

It's just a shame that he doesn't realize, as he leaves his room, that things won't stay simple for long. Not with his curse suddenly becoming active in a way it never has before...

Floor 39; Open

[Ryoji hasn't seen Diarmuid for quite a while. One might even think that he'd been avoiding the older man... and well, that's because that's entirely true. Ryoji can't speak to him. Diarmuid can read him like a book, and if he finds out about Ryoji's manipulation by Ganon and his allies, then he'd probably try to do something reckless, like getting revenge. As soon as Ganondorf found out, he'd target Diarmuid, kill him painfully and slowly to punish Ryoji. He can't ever let that happen. It was best for both of them if he just avoided him.

But, of course, Ryoji still has his scheduled training with him. He stands in the gym, awkwardly waiting for Diarmuid to arrive. He'll just... have one more session, and then break it off. He can train on his own now, and Diarmuid shouldn't waste time with him. Even if the man protests, Ryoji won't listen. He's made his decision to keep his friends safe at all costs... even if that means having to isolate himself from them.]

Floor 39; Open

[Diarmuid is smiling when he arrives to meet with Ryoji. Not only is he happy to see the boy again, he can't wait to tell him that Mami has agreed to help teach them both how to cook Considering Ryoji had seemed especially excited about the idea of learning to bake sweets and Mami is so good at making them, the boy should be ecstatic.

The smile fades from Diarmuid's face, though, we he sees the solemn look on Ryoji's face. Quickly, he moves to the boy's side and kneels so he can better look him in the face.]

Ryoji, what is it? Has something happened?

Floor 39; Open

[And of course he's been caught already. Couldn't it have waited until partway through the training. Ryoji looks up, ready to fake a smile, and... actually falters for a minute. He wasn't expecting his heart to skip a beat when he saw Diarmuid again? Was he really that nervous about telling him?

...The more he looks at him, the more he decides against quitting his training. It'd be fine to have one more session... maybe a few more. Just to be safe.

Finally, Ryoji smiles, albeit far later than he should have. It's easy to fake this smile for some reason. He's happier around Diarmuid.]

No, nothing happened! I was just worried you weren't going to show up today.

[Diarmuid watches the emotions that are flashing across Ryoji's face. Something is going on. Something the boy is trying very hard to hide, but what? And how can he get the boy to talk to him without upsetting him anymore than necessary?

He sets the swords he has brought with him on the mat at his side and reaches up to gently touch Ryoji's face.]

I would never do that to you. You are too important to me. Now, come and sit. You know you don't have to hide things when you are around me. If you are worried, I want to know. If someone is threatening you, I want to know. I want to help.

[While Raphael hadn't even bothered to look in his trunk until the weather had hit, he had realized that he had lost some very interesting and helpful things. So, today, he had taken some time to wander up to the library, holding a battered teddy bear and searching for books that could tell him what it was..and replace the book on depression he had lost.

And something to tell him what the melted food was in his trunk.]

[As much as Tohko says she's always at the library, today when Diarmuid stops by to find her and ask if it is okay for Ryoji to join them for their next cooking lesson, she is nowhere to be found. He is about to leave the library when he notices a face he vaguely knows. And that face seems confused.

What better way to get to know him better than taking a moment to help out?

Diarmuid makes his way over to where Raphael is standing and then greets him warmly.]

How are you doing? Do you remember me? I helped rescue Enoch when he was buried in the graveyard. How is he doing?

[Sorry, Dia. Tohko was now tending to the nonfiction library a few floors up and would soon check her mailbox. Your book girl was in a different castle.

However, when Raphael saw Diarmuid, he smiled at the man, and gave him a kind smile.]

I am well, thank you. I remember you very well. He's recovered from that incident, and he seems to be doing as well as he can in this Tower. Again, I thank you for helping me during that time. I am an Angel of healing, not strength, so if you hadn't come along, he would not have survived. Thank you.

[A relived look crosses Diarmuid's face.]

I am glad to hear it. I might not know him very well, but no one deserves such a horrible fate.

You said you were an angel before. Does that mean what the Grail is telling me it does?

[Angels had not been a part of the belief system Diarmuid had grown up with, but thanks to the Grail he does know what they are. Or are suppose to be. He finds it a little hard to believe he is talking to one of Christian God's chosen.]

And you say you are a healer. Do you know a man by the name of Kariya Matou? He is a friend of mine, but he is also very...sick.

March 29th Cafeteria

[Hello, Diarmuid. Are you visiting the cafeteria at all? Because you will find a young girl clearing up a bunch of broken plates after she slipped and knocked them over - again. She is currently trying to gather all the broken china up into a pile.]

How could I be so clumsy? At least no one was hurt.

[She hasn't noticed you yet, Diarmuid.]

March 29th Cafeteria

Would you like a hand?

[Diarmuid is just finishing lunch when he hears the crash and comes to see what happened. He's glad to hear her mutter that no one was hurt because that means they can just focus on cleaning up the mess before that changes.]

Here, step back. I can clean this up a lot faster than you probably can.

[And probably more safely. It would take a lot more than some broken plates to cut a servant. Meanwhile, it would be a lot easier for a human to cut themselves on the same thing.]

N-no, it's all right, I should have.....[And when Colette looks up, she suddenly stops mid-sentence and starts staring at Diarmuid. She has never seen him before in her life, but for no explainable reason, she feels that he is one of the most important people in her life - she wants to do whatever she can for him and give up her life protecting him.

Which makes hardly any sense whatsoever but this is a curse, so...]

Um...don't worry about that! I can do it all. It's my fault, anyway.

[Diarmuid smiles at her gently.]

Accidents are no one's fault. Please, it is no problem for me. Just step back.

[He waits a moment for her to move and then seems to vanish. Only, he hasn't. He has just started moving so quickly that a normal person won't be able to follow his movements. Only seconds later, he appears again by the garbage can dropping all of the broken plates into it. Diarmuid then flashes her a grin.]

See? All done. Now you can go do whatever you would like to instead of spending so long here picking things up.

*Someone hasn't really given this floor much thought before and is just now curiously poking at this...square-trunked palm tree on a beach with an ocean that doesn't go very far before hitting an arctic coast.

The movement on the stairs draws his attention though, if only to check to see that it wasn't a monster, and- oh! He'd never really thanked him properly for helping rescue him. Enoch smiles and leaves the tree behind to approach the stairs to meet Diarumid.*

[Diarmuid pauses when he sees the man approach and smiles. During a recent conversation with Raphael, he had found out that Enoch was doing well after his near death, but it is still good to actually see the man in person.]

Good day, Enoch. How are you doing today? You look well.

[Of course, considering the last time he saw the man he had been covered in dirt after being buried alive, it would be hard to look worse.]

[Diarmuid sighs and runs a hand through his hair. He tries to smile so that Enoch won't be worried, but the smile is worn and strained.]

But there is really nothing I can do but wait things out, so please don't let my troubles concern you.

If I might ask, what happened that day? How did you end up buried in the graveyard like that?

[Well, this was more than she ever bargained for.

Blasted stairs fell out from under her while she was making her way up, and now she's dealing with plenty of monsters, Husks included. Hurray for one of the only times where a plasma shotgun isn't good for taking care of the situation. Shepard's trying to hold them off with the Revenant, but there's no telling how long that's gonna last without some semblance of help.]

Tch, they don't build stairs like they used to anymore.

[His ears hear the sounds of battle a few floors away and immediately, Diarmuid pushes away his other worries. Honestly, he's glad to have something to think about besides all the trouble his curse is causing.

When he arrives on the floor, Diarmuid quickly scans it from relative safety, servant enhanced vision quickly picking out the woman fighting for her life not far below. She's not doing too badly on her own, but this floor is swarming with monsters and there seems to be one type in particular her weapon doesn't work well again. That fact alone decides Diarmuid's course of action.

He leaps from his perch landing behind her only long enough to gather her under an arm and then launches them both back up toward the stairs. Moments later, the woman will find herself set down above the floor on some much more steady stairs.]

Are you all right?

Whoa--!

[Well, it's probably a good thing that she didn't get scooped up while she was firing, or that would have ended rather 'wonderfully' for the both of them. Shepard keeps hold of her gun as much as possible while being lugged around by her rescuer, and when they land, she immediately folds it up and puts it aside.

She then gives a side-eye to said rescuer, really not sure of what to make of his grand entrance as she reorients herself.]

I've been worse off. Getting caught in a situation like that isn't new. [...] Though I'm pretty sure a rescue like that only happens in those fairy tale books.

[The music room is as quiet as it ever gets, only the odd shuffle of an instrument rearranging itself, the idle strums of strings being tuned or an occasional groan from the organ marring the silence. Near the door, Sis perched idly, fingers tapping a quick beat against the surface of the table she occupied, once or twice hitting the side of the acoustic settled on the table beside her. She'd come up early with the intent of coming up with something on the fly, the way she sometimes did, to get the words stuck in her head out in a way others would understand.

So far, however, she wasn't having much luck.

Instead she tapped her fingers against the wood of the table, toe of her sneaker tapping a silent counter-rhythm in the air, and waited.

Maybe when she saw him again, the right words would come.]

[As he enters the music room, Diarmuid is unconsciously turning the shuriken over in his hand. He knows vaguely what it is because of the Grail's information, but he's still not sure why it would have been left with the note. However, if she had been in trouble, why leave the note and set the meeting so late in the day?

When he sees her in the room, he smiles, pushing away his ponderings. Why keep wondering when he can just ask her?]

It's been too long, Lady. How are you? Is something wrong?

[He's right- it has been too long. The fact that she's very nearly surprised when he enters the room speaks volumes for her distraction. She at least manages to stop herself from jolting in surprise, a slight smile forming on her face despite herself- and despite years of keeping more or less stoic.]

Wrong? [How could anything be wrong when he was there? -but oh, she hadn't made him worry, had she?] No reason to worry, really. I just... wanted to talk.

[She finishes the sentence a little lamely, teeth worrying at her lip momentarily before she slips off the table and moves forward, hand reaching for his wrist.]

Here we should... move a little further inside. Don't need any sudden interruptions from the stairs, right?

Floor 33; Locked ; March 31st

[ As much as America likes dinosaur-shaped chicken nuggets and PB&J sandwiches, apparently the menu changes every month and she's not real keen on one day having to eat England's burnt fish 'n' chips all day, every day some month. She doesn't trust England to quite leave her to her own devices still, considering the woman's reaction to seeing her when Amelia first arrived.

It's not that she doesn't understand; it's that she understands all too well. And America just isn't the sort to let herself be coddled by England anymore, that's all. (Or at least she likes to think so.)

This is why she and Tony today have taken advantage of the sunny weather to go exploring a little. The Grey has wandered off finally, bored with America, while the nation examines the rusted tools in the shed. It's been a while since she's farmed anything on her own, but she remembers how. This particular floor strikes America as interesting and she's not afraid of the monsters so much as she is intrigued by the possibilities of having found seeds and farmland in the Tower. Are they safe to plant? Are they really what they say they are on the packages? ]

Floor 33; Locked ; March 31st

[Since Floor 33 is one of the floors where people can actually do things to make life easier for themselves, it is one of the floors Diarmuid takes extra time to stop on and clear of monsters when he is patrolling. It's only temporary, but every little bit helps. And the fighting also helps to clear his mind of all the worries that his curse acting up have caused.

It's a pretty big task, but one that gets a big push in the right direction when he realizes there is someone on the 33 floor that needs help.

Or maybe more specifically, something. Honestly, if Diarmuid hadn't seen the little gray being with one of the tower residents, he might have confused it for one of the monsters, but since he had, he knows it isn't a monster. That doesn't mean he knows exactly what it is though. He'd never gotten to ask America that.

Diarmuid pushes away that question for another time, though and focuses on saving the little gray creature. It's not too hard even without his powers thanks to the swords Waver had made for him, and soon the monsters are dead at his feet. He's about to ask it if it's okay, when it throws itself into his arms and clings on tight.

Well, so much for that. But if the little gray being is here, where is its owner? Is she okay?]
