"Love Fool" Player Plot Log

Characters: Diarmuid Ua Duibhne and anyone affected by his curse or who wants to get caught up in the chaos!
Setting: March 29th-April 4th. Anywhere in the tower during the beginning of the event, primarily in and around Room 4-16 later in the event.
Format: Any!
Summary: Instead of being mostly inactive, Diarmuid's curse starts being active most of the time and it's affecting both men and women! Chaos ensues! An OOC plotting and sign up post is here.
Warnings: Death, violence, blood, worms (X.x Kariya...), psychological torture, swearing, shenanigans of a romantic nature, and ANGST! I will update as it is needed!
Notes: Being affected by Diarmuid's curse requires a tag on his permissions post here so please make sure to stop by! If the log gets too big, I will make a second, overflow log and link it here. While most sections have dates on them, they are only references for the time of the week that the events are going on and not when the section is available for posting. All sections are open for posting just as soon as the log goes up and will stay open throughout the event.

Background Information:

One of Diarmuid's most defining traits is his curse, actually a gift given to him by a spirit of love, beauty, and youth as repayment for something he did for her. Unfortunately, while something like that might be an actual gift to a fellow spirit or god, giving it to a human doesn't work quite so well. Being a honorable man, though, Diarmuid has never taken advantage of those affected by his curse. Instead, he has done his best to let them down gently and guide them through the pain caused by it. Sometimes this has worked and sometimes it hasn't. In either event, he remembers vividly every person he's ever hurt because of it.

That approach works well until the woman who falls in love with him is his Lord's fiancee and a princess who won't take no for an answer. She places a geis on him that forces him to run away with her. Many things end that night and a great many more begin. At least, that's how the legends go.

In the tower, his curse has been weakened somewhat so that it is only rarely active. However, when it activates and for how long is random, and he doesn't know when it is happening until those affected start acting oddly toward him. Those so affected seem to remain that way for a week or two and often have some success controlling their reactions to him if they have a strong will or know that they are under the curse's spell.

Event Information:

During the event instead of activating only once and a while, Diarmuid's curse will almost constantly be active. It will also affect men and women meaning that almost everyone he runs into in the tower has the chance of being affected. He will not know this right away and will continue going about his normal patrol routes, meetings, and so on until he finally realizes what is going on. Once he does, he will start hiding in his room to limit the number of people affected. However, this won't work out so well because with him staying in one place, anyone who is under the curse's spell and trying to find him isn't going to have to look very hard.

Every day he will be spending at least a little time out of his room so that a character can be hit by the curse whenever they wish to be during the event. Anyone is welcome to have their character affected whether or not they actually have CR already with Diarmuid. This is actually a good time to start up CR if you have wanted to, but not been sure how since he will be checking in with people to make sure they are okay once the effects of the curse have passed. New players are also welcome!

How strongly and how long a character is affected by the curse is totally up to that character's mun. And remember, your character doesn't have to be affected by the curse to participate! Do they want to troll Diarmuid by acting like they are affected when they aren't? Do they want to slip him a gift or thank you but have been too shy to until they have the chance to do it under the guise of something else? Might they just be passing by Room 4-16 and get caught up in a fight? Do they have a friend who is affected and are trying to 'help' them out? Anything is possible and creativity is encouraged!

Below I have set up several locations and times to have things going on, but feel free to start something elsewhere if you wish! Private meetings between characters working together or other similar posts are welcome. Just be sure to mark what is going on. In an effort to try and keep everything to one log, I have made sub-headings for his Mailbox and for Network posts should characters wish to use those things as well to show their feelings. Because people are competing for his attention to the point of fighting in some cases, please be aware that I am encouraging threadjacking and sneaky tricks like stealing gifts out of his mailbox or from his room. If you want to make sure that a thread isn't interrupted by others or a gift stolen, please mark the thread's subject line with the word "Locked." Any thread marked in such a way should only have Diarmuid and the thread starter replying in it unless other arrangements have been made. All other threads are considered open for interruption, but please remember to be polite.

Important Note: To help keep things organized, please make sure to put either "Open" or "Locked" in the subject line of all newly started threads so that people know if it is okay to jump in or not. It is all right if you decide to change the status later in the thread--just adjust the comment title in the next post.

Diarmuid will not respond to threads that aren't marked until they are marked, and I would ask others not to either since once replied to, comments can't be edited. Once the thread is marked, it is fair game to be replied to.

During the end of the event players will find it harder to get into Diarmuid's room because the way will be blocked. Master Kariya Matou (

vermicompost ) will have ordered his Servant Berserker (

chevalier_mal_fet ) to guard the door. Far from what it looks like on the outside, both men aren't trying to help protect their friend from those affected. Instead, they have also been affected and are tying to keep away all other potential suitors! Can anyone say Boss Fight? Will those affected team up to take them down or maybe just sit back and let them take out a few rivals to thin the competition? It's all up to you guys and how nuts you want to get!

Important Note: When tagging the 'Boss Fight' section, in addition to marking your post "locked" or "open" in the subject line, please also state if your character is meeting Lancelot in his true form--which will mean having to deal with him in some way so your character can get through to the room--or in Diarmuid's form--which will mean he will greet your character and act like Diarmuid in an attempt to lead your character away from the room. Your character is free to be fooled or see through his deception as the thread progresses. Just be aware that Lancelot's mimic ability is high level and will take either knowing Diarmuid and his quirks well or having a lot of magical knowledge to see through.

Finally, while the tone for the event is mostly fun and humorous, if you want there can be more serious consequences. If any character is involved in a serious incident or dies because of something related to the event, please make sure you put a comment in this section with your character's name, journal, a quick blurb about what happened and, most importantly, if you want Diarmuid to know what happened. Obviously, because of his nature, he is going to want to contact anyone who is seriously impacted by or killed because of his curse.

IC Event Introducton:

The day starts off like any other for Diarmuid and for that he is glad. After all that had happened at the end of the month in February, quiet and routine days are something he is not going to argue against. Besides, with so many people who are from some version of the world he knows having arrived this month, he would really like them to have a chance to settle in before things get too chaotic again. There are those he would also like to spend as much time with as possible before anything else happens. So many people, himself included, need as much time as they can get to just sort out the things going on in their heads.

The problem is, will the tower give that time to them? Diarmuid knows each quiet day is one more step forward so that they can all be prepared for whatever the administrators throw at them next.

A small smile crosses his face as he takes off to make his first patrol of the tower. After that, he will probably have something to eat at the cafeteria, before taking some time to visit friends. Sometime before nightfall, he will make another patrol of the floors before retiring to his room for the night. It's a simple day and considering how quickly things can go bad in the tower when things get too complex, he's not bothered at all by that simplicity.

It's just a shame that he doesn't realize, as he leaves his room, that things won't stay simple for long. Not with his curse suddenly becoming active in a way it never has before...

[There is no ignoring that glare from Ryoji, nor the way he shifts his stance in reaction simply to Sephiroth's presence here. Really, if the boy is going to be keeping secrets, reactions like that aren't going to help any. Within the residential floors of the Tower at least, each of them is entitled to roam where they like and this is a Floor Sephiroth can be found on quite often.

He doesn't hold the glare though, nor return it to Ryoji at all as he might have done. He keeps his expression as blank as he's well-practiced to do and even offers an acknowledging nod to Diarmuid as if to encourage their training session to continue; what's the harm to have a spectator after all.]

[Ryoji does allow himself to be moved away, though he continues to glare at Sephiroth anyways. He knows he should just ignore the older man, so he can continue to keep Diarmuid in the dark, but he can't help it. The idea of Sephiroth doing anything that might hurt Diarmuid is automatically enraging Ryoji.

Still, he finally glances away to charge at Diarmuid. He's definitely not going on much besides instinct, but he's going to try his best. He can't ever let his mentor down.]

[For a moment, Diarmuid thinks he's going to have to give Ryoji another nudge to get him to ignore Sephiroth. Just as he's about to, though, Ryoji finally attacks.

The attack is mostly instinct which, if you are in a fight with little else to help you, is much better than nothing. However, against someone who is as well trained as Diarmuid, it is pretty much equivalent to having nothing. The knight's parry and dodge are well controlled, wasting no energy on fancy tricks or flourishes. Oh, he has plenty of those he could do if he wanted, but honestly, they have no place in training. At least, not in training as basic as this.

And besides, with their 'friend' watching it probably wouldn't be wise to show his true level of skill anyway.]

[Ryoji is angered by the parry, more than he should. Usually, he'd be impressed and in awe of Diarmuid's skill, but it's frustrating to know that he still has so much to learn compared to an expert. It doesn't take the older man any effort to knock him back... how is he supposed to protect Diarmuid when he's much stronger than Ryoji is?

He ducks to one side and tries for another thrust, trying to ignore his Shadow self threatening to escape his control. He isn't supposed to use his powers, not against Diarmuid especially... Sephiroth, however, would be a nice target.]

[Diarmuid doesn't attempt to parry the next strike. He just takes a few quick steps to move himself out of harm's way and around behind Ryoji, bringing his own weapon up in a move, that, if completed, would take the boy's head from his shoulders.

He doesn't complete the move, of course, halting long before the boy is in any danger of injury and moving to set himself for the boy's next attack. Diarmuid doesn't miss the shift in Ryoji's emotions as he moves. Does having Sephiroth there really bother him that much?]

[Oh, Sephiroth bothers him very much. Ryoji's just waiting for him to make a wrong move, say the wrong thing, so that he has an excuse to go after the older man. He hates having him here, not just because he dislikes Sephiroth, and because he's a danger to Diarmuid, but also because he's intruding on something that's special to him and Diarmuid. This is private! How dare he come in and watch them fight and talk and comfort each other?

Ryoji actually makes a small grunt of frustration when he notes that Diarmuid could have killed him before he made any sort of attack, and has to pause for a moment, forcing down his rage and trying another attack.]

[Diarmuid meets Ryoji's strike with his own blade shifting and attempting to disarm the boy. He's glad to see Ryoji focusing his anger into his fighting. As long as he controls the emotion, his fighting will improve for it. It's only if he lets the emotion take control of him that it will become a problem.

And if that happens, Diarmuid will end the training session immediately so that no one gets hurt. It is far too easy for accidents to happen when emotions are running that uncontrolled.]

[Sephiroth is still stood there all the while, seemingly more interested in the standard of the sword-fighting than actually the fact that Ryoji is participating in it. At some point his arms are drawn up to be lightly folded, indicative perhaps of his apparent disappointment.

It's so basic though, there isn't much to watch. Clearly Diarmuid has only just started to train Ryoji and the little guy seems to have very little natural talent with a weapon. Well, at least from what Sephiroth is seeing in front of him. It's much too early to draw up conclusions.

Perhaps not early enough for Ryoji, Sephiroth tilts his head slightly and lightly shrugs, before turning away from their fighting as if bored. As if he doesn't even know who Ryoji is. He heads over to the free-weights area of the Gymnasium and begins to unequip armor.]

[Ryoji doesn't know whether to be relived that he and Diarmuid are finally left alone, or angered that he was seen as a disappointment. He has to back off, too frustrated to continue. He doesn't want his failure to be noticeable to his teacher too. He looks down at the ground, fists clenched at his sides.]

... I can't do it. If I used Thanatos, I could, but-

[He cuts himself off. He's not supposed to rely on his powers, especially not when he's this upset. Transforming now would just end in disaster for someone in the Gym. For now, he'll keep quiet, and listen to Diarmuid.]

Yes, you can.

[Diarmuid kneels in front of Ryoji and puts his hands over the boy's.]

However, it is very hard to train when there are others watching and making you uncomfortable. Especially when you are just starting.

[Diarmuid's eyes slide toward Sephiroth for a few moments, glaring at the man's back before turning back to Ryoji.]

Since he has seen fit to interrupt us, perhaps we should stop for now. How about I show you how good you might become if you just hang in there and let me continue to teach you?

[Besides, if he shows off a little, perhaps he will pull Sephiroth's attention away from Ryoji. Honestly, Diarmuid doesn't want the man paying attention to either of them, but if it has to be one or the other, Diarmuid would rather he focus on him than the boy.]

[Ryoji blushes a bit when his hands are held, but he does cheer up a bit. Diarmuid always did know just what to say. He doesn't even bother looking at Sephiroth, focusing all his attention on Diarmuid, wanting to keep this memory embedded in his mind forever. He grins happily at the suggestion, nodding rapidly.]

I'd like to see that... Thank you.

[Diarmuid smiles, glad that Ryoji has agreed. He gives the boy's hands a squeeze before standing up and motioning to the blade in Ryoji's hand.]

May I have that back then so I might use them both?

[He nods quickly, passing the blade over carefully, then backing up to a safe distance to watch the show.

...He does give one quick glance over to where Sephiroth is, hoping that he isn't observing this.]

[Once Ryoji is a safe distance away, Diarmuid bows to him and drops into a relaxed fighting stance with one blade at the ready in each hand. He closes his eyes a moment, focusing, before launching himself into action. His motions are purposely slow--one so that Ryoji can see what he is doing and two so that Sephiroth will hopefully get a false impression of how fast he is.

The blades dance around Diarmuid's body as he moves each strike flowing together one to another. At times, the blades seem to have only a very tenuous connection with his hands moving from one to the other and back again in the blink of an eye. He even actually throws the blades once or twice, tumbling and rolling to place himself into position to catch them before they come anywhere near touching the ground.]

[It's a simple affair to heighten his senses; in particular it's his sense of hearing that Sephiroth amplified once needed. In other words, even though the pair of them shouldn't be in earshot from across the room, they really were still.

Sephiroth has started a series of squat-presses; now sans armor and jacket, when he overhears Ryoji ~~buckling under the pressure~~ concede to being shown his teachers skill instead. This indeed would be something in his interest. Setting weights down either side of him Sephiroth turns back to observe Diarmuid's display.

It's not too bad, though not a standard of swordsplay he would consider impressive. A part of him resists the urge to go over there and show them how it's done but again, Ryoji has yet to see him really fight and that could be a surprise best kept simmering. Though, ones' fighting in training is very different to when faced with a real threat. Sephiroth would have to look out for this one in a more realistic situation.]

[Ryoji, of course, finds it more than impressive, and if Sephiroth spoke up and mentioned its failure to meet expectations, Ryoji would automatically protest, most likely in a violent way. As long as he's quiet, though, all Sephiroth gets is a small glare with the boy notices him looking that way before he quickly goes back to watching the display. When Diarmuid finishes, there's a very wide grin on Ryoji's face, and he rushes forward to speak to his mentor.]

That was amazing, Diarmuid-san! I wouldn't think some of those moves were even possible! Do you really think I'll be that good?

[Diarmuid can't help but grin at the boy's enthusiasm.]

Well, you have to remember that I am a servant. I have advantages over a normal human, but you are not a normal human either so I don't see why not. If you have patience and keep at it, I expect you will be doing tricks soon too.

[Because to be honest at lot of those moves had been tricks and not something that he would ever use in a fight. They look pretty, but except in extreme circumstances, they would be very unwise to use because of the extra time and energy required to pull them off.]

[Not normal humans...

Well there is something he didn't expect to overhear. Granted he already figures there has to be something more to Ryoji otherwise why would he have attracted Ganon's attention ~~but Nesir...~~, but why should he be so surprised. There are plenty of people here who are human in appearance but aren't, himself included - even if he does consider himself to be above them.

Sephiroth averts his gaze from the two of them before he can be accused of staring and goes back to his exercise.]

I don't mind if I can't do tricks. As long as I know how to fight, it doesn't matter. I just want to make sure you're safe.

[He moves closer again, a little hesitant, but clearly happy, as he hugs Diarmuid. Normally, he'd never initiate a hug, but he felt really strongly about Diarmuid today. He needed to show him how he felt in some small way.]

[Diarmuid is surprised by the hug, but his surprised look soon melts into a loving smile. He hugs the boy back, resting one of his hands on top of Ryoji's head. He is very proud of him and seeing him so happy really makes Diarmuid feel good.]

Learning to fight is the most important thing so focusing on that is good for now, but I bet we can get a few tricks in there at some point. Sadly, I think we are probably done for today, but maybe you can stop by my room later so we can spend more time together? You know you are always welcome there.

[Ryoji breaks the hug, and looks up for a moment, worried. He doesn't want this to be over yet... Yes, Diarmuid said that they could spend time together later, but he can't wait that long.]

Do you really need to go? Can't we just go spend time together now?

Honestly, I really don't have that much to do. I will patrol later as usual, but for now I'm free. I just didn't know if you wanted to stay here with him around.

[Diarmuid tilts his head slightly toward Sephiroth.]

Is there something you would like us to do right now? We can do other things besides train.

[It's such a useful skill, being able to improve his hearing like that, especially when people want to say things about him. Not only is he learning about Ryoji, but also his friends' habits. It's clear now that Diarmund is very close to Ryoji; he wasn't about to draw a line under this conclusion either but it seemed almost romantic.

Perhaps he didn't need to hear all this infatuated whining, in fact the same is something that would usually turn Sephiroth off from paying any mind to - but for now he's just going to have to put up with it. Necessary sacrifices.

Meanwhile, he's moved onto one of the weight benches and is chest pressing the bar up and down, it might have seemed like he's vanished being lain down like that - if anyone were to glance over at the equipment too quickly. If they didn't see the pauldrons glinting in the light, with the jacket folded up underneath it.]

[With Ryoji the way he is now, he wouldn't object to his and Diarmuid's relationship being a romantic one. Of course, Diarmuid didn't seem to notice his affections yet, but it was just a matter of time... Ryoji would be sure to tell him the truth very soon.

He gives a little glance over at the equipment, still clearly upset by the man intruding on their training, but he quickly focuses back on Diarmuid, smiling excitedly.]

Could we go to the entertainment room? Sometimes I watch movies there, and they're really good... I'd be glad if you'd watch one with me.

[Diarmuid smiles at him widely, motioning toward the stairs.]

I would love to do that with you. Would you believe that I have never watched a movie before? I can't even tell you what type I would like. Will you pick a good one for us to watch? Perhaps one you really like?
