Event: Quarantine

Summary: An unexpected series of explosions has trapped residents in the dorm rooms with no power and no way to get out. Try to communicate with the outside, deal with being stuck in a small room with other people... Deal with the really strange things that seem to be happening, too.
Warnings: typical Animus horror event warnings

[There are several more explosions, and the sound of things falling and crumbling outside. The dorm rooms themselves don't collapse or cave in, but the furniture and trunks and nightstands may be rattled and knocked about. Eventually, the lights flicker and go out entirely, leaving everyone in the dark. There are small red emergency lights lining the floors, but they don't seem to have come on all the way, and flicker on and off eerily.

After maybe twenty minutes everything falls silent. However, if you try the door, you'll find you can't get out...]

[After his arm and the rest of his wounds are dealt with a few Cures, Reno's trying the door instead of being sensible and resting. Kicking it, pushing it, you name it. Because screw that guy and that learned helplessness bit. It didn't hurt to try. Except when he hits it too hard and aggravates things.

When that doesn't seem to work, he starts pounding on it with his left arm, trying to make as much noise as possible.]

Hey!!! Anyone out there.

[Pause.]

Anyone alive?

[He knew that voice, he was still sat by the wall and he shifted a little.] Reno? [He would never hear him like that, he swallowed and tried again, shouting this time] Reno?

[He's pausing... was that?]

Shion!

[Sweet Ifrit, Shion was all right.]

Hey kid, you all right?

[She hears what sounds like her name and pulls herself out of the reverie she's locked herself in, looking up confusedly.]

I... I'm fine, what are you- [And then it clicks] Shion?!

[She looks at the wall she knows the voice (which she hadn't fully paid attention to a moment ago, too wrapped up in trying to calm down) came from, pressing herself up against it so she doesn't have to shout quite as loud.]

Shion, you're there?!

[He swallowed again, his mouth was so dry he felt like he could barely breathe never mind shout.] Yeah... I'm fine [Reno could probably tell the lie just from his voice but everything hurt too much to try and hide it] Are you? Is... is Xion... [He hears her voice] Xion... are you okay?

[Xion's heart seizes up at his voice. She knows he's very much not okay, and she wants to be there for him. She wants to be able to hug him because she knows how much a comfort it will be for them both.

She has to be strong for him though.]

Yeah, I'm fine. We're... we're both fine.

[Nevermind Shion might have heard Reno swearing earlier as she tried to pull the shrapnel from his arm, but so long as she could keep up the facade, she would try to]

[Reno nods at her, approving. He didn't need to be worried about them. There was already enough.]

Shion, ya stay strong. We'll get out of here.

[A trickle of blood ran down his forehead and Shion reached up to catch it before it went into his eyes. He had heard, now that he thought about it, shouting and swearing that sounded like Reno. But it was hazy, there had been lots of noise and confusion and he wondered what had happened.] I'm glad...

[Okay, that wasn't good... He glances at Xion with a raised eyebrow- the one that wasn't bandaged over, anyway.]

...Get yourself some help, kid. You don't sound well.

[While it wasn't unusual for Shion to be subdued in circumstances like this, Reno was right. There was something worrying in Shion's tone.]

Shion... you have to look after yourself, because we can't, okay? Please make sure you'll be safe.

[She didn't want anything to happen to him.]

The same will go for us. We'll look after ourselves since you can't right now. Deal?

[He blinked, realising he had worried them] I'm fine, there's other people here too. [They were right though he had to get himself together, he had medical things on him so he could at least bandage his wounds, and see if the others in his room needed help]

Deal... Look after each other...

[Well, now, look who finally roused from the explosion? She's got a mild concussion and it feels like her left arm is broken, but she's at least alive. Though, damn, she can smell blood and its heavy and thick in the air.]

Nnnn....What in the world...? Shion?

[Oh thank Shiva, he was okay. Crawling to her knees, her eyes whip around the room, frowning.]

Reno? Xion?? [Shit. Oh shit. Where were they? Were they okay?] Reno?! Xion?!

[Oh... Elena, she hadn't been a dream at all. Her shouting made him wince as his head felt like his brain wanted to explode out of his skull.] Next door... I think... [He forced himself to shout again.] Elena's here...

A-ah, sorry... [His visible wincing earned a concerned frown.] I need to patch you up, Shion, you're bleeding like a sieve.

[Pressing up against the door, not caring how much it's hurting, he listens for her voice again.]

Elena!

[Shadows of the future. The desperation and fear were the same as what he had been destined to scream in the Crater.]

You're all right!

[Completely totally relieved. But...]

What about Shion?

[Hands press heavily against the wall, as if doing so would grant her the power to knock it over and remove the barrier that separated the two rooms. That voice cut through the thickness that cut between their current locations, that was so heart-breakingly familiar that it pierced right through her core and exploded in a burst of ache and fear and memory.]

Reno!

[She had hoped to never hear that tone come from him ever again, to never give him a reason to sound that way.]

Yeah, I'm fine. Just a little shook up.

[Its a little lie but, she knows that if she asked him the same he'd tell that little white lie too. No need to make the other worry, right?]

Shion's in bad spot - he's bleeding badly from the head and I think he has a concussion. Once I get the bleeding to stop I'll watch his vitals.

[A heartbeat later]

Is Xion with you?

Don't tell them [He scrabbles at her because he had just managed to convince them (in his mind) that he was fine and they didn't have to worry, and now she's gone and told them and Xion will worry and be sad and they aren't allowed to be sad, especially over him.]

[Xion's heart seizes up upon hearing that Shion isn't as fine as he's pretending to be. But it's met and matched by the relief that Elena was there and okay.]

I'm here too, Elena. I'm okay. [Probably the most okay out of all of them, it sounds like.]

I can try to send a Cure through the wall.

[Or maybe Curaga would be more effective, since it's more of an area spell. She can't see them, but she can hear them and she knows they're there, and they're her best friends. Her family. It has to do something.]

[Reno places a hand on her shoulder, reassuring.]

Elena's a better medic'n me. He'll be fine long as she's watchin' him. Save your strength.

[It was hard, and he felt the same way, wanting to help. There were other considerations though, that all his experience told him were warranted.]

They may need it later.

[Too late, Shion, she's doing exactly what a Turk ought and that is assess the situation and share any and all information that is required, including your current state. Yes, the others are going to worry. That's what family does. So she'll take his little attacks with a little ~~notstrike apologetic smile.]~~

Too late, kiddo...

[Turning back to the wall, ears strained to pick up the conversation, thankful for at least the verbal confirmation that they were alive.]

Ah, Xion. You hold on to it for now - better to have it when you really need it.

[A heartbeat later]

What is the status over there? You and Reno okay?

[Because yes Reno she knows you'll tell a pretty lie about your current state to prevent her from worrying so she's going to ask the one who has a hard time lying.]

[Shion was trying to gather enough voice to shout again but was glad when Reno and Elena told Xion not to use her magic, he didn't want her to exhaust herself. He leaned against Elena and closed his eyes waiting for Xion's reply, hoping that they were alright and hadn't been lying before.]
