Summary: 1NV3ST1G4T1ON because what else does she ever do.

[once again the Neophyte found herself wandering the Tower. exploring new floors, exploring old ones, catching a bite to eat in the cafeteria...she might even spend a little time in her own dorm room at some point. who knows what she'll get up to or who she'll run into.]

[He looks up from his book and smiles at her in obvious welcome, not in the least bit threatened]

Hello. [He waves his book a bit] It's just a novel, actually. Are you Redglare?

[well, that's....slightly unexpected. not that she shows it.]

I am. [a beat.] And you are?

[And that's a bit of a surprising response]

You can call me Signless. [He chuckles] Your descendent mentioned you to me, months ago. The resemblance is pretty obvious.

[she should have recognized him, she realizes, but it's been so long...

...oh, fuck. now is not the time for blushing and she won't do it. she is so totally over her flushcrush on him.

well, at least she manages not to blush or look completely stupid, but it's somewhat obvious from her body language that she's surprised.]

She does seem to have inherited many things from me.

[yeah, that was smooth! good going redglare.]

[He sets his book aside, still smiling, but a bit more awkwardly]

I know this might be a weird question, but, have you heard of me?

For those of us who lived in your time, at least, you are quite difficult to forget.

[He nods] So I hear. I guess I was just wondering about your opinion, but it doesn't really matter. [He pats the floor beside him] Want to join me?

[welp she doesn't want to give that away either, but...]

[and she very carefully sits on her knees beside him. gosh she is just so stiff and formal all the time.]

[He is okay with it if you aren't converted, Redglare. He grins]

I don't bite, you know. Actually, that's sort of the point.

[she supports him! she just has a paranoia about saying things like that out loud in public spaces. she leads a complicated life okay!!]

[but she can't say "i heard you preach when i was just a little pupa" because that would just be embarrassing.]

[He's okay with it.]

So tell me about yourself. Please.

[oh, her little blood gusher is all aflutter. this is ridiculous. fortunately she has a good poker face.]

I'm not sure what you would want to know.

[Shrug.] Whatever you want to tell me. Tell me about your life, your job. Hell, tell me about your lusus, if you want. Anything.

There isn't much to tell, really.

[she is really terrible at small talk.]

I do my duty, I suppose. Before I ended up here my lusus assisted me in my work.

And what work is that? [He prompts gently. She looks like a legislacerator, but he'd like to hear it from her]

[she's wearing the uniform, which makes this interrogation (ha) ridiculous, but she plays along.]

Why, the work of the league of legislacerators.

[It's not an interrogation! Just a friendly chat]

I should have known. [Wry smile. He might be fucking with her, just a little] Given the uniform and everything.

[she gives him a sly smile for his efforts.]

I had wondered what would cause such a small deductive leap to escape you. Could the Signless be playing tricks on me?

[He struggles to hide his smile] Oh no, the Signless is always serious at all times. I never joke, at all.

Naturally, you must be far too busy spreading your message of good will to engage in such base indulgences as humor.

Oh obviously! That's all I'm about, really. Spreading messages. Being serious at all time. Basically acting like I'm the best thing since sliced grubloaf.

That's quite a claim for any troll to make. Being superior to such a quality staple as grubloaf.

Hey, I can't help being demonstratively superior even to grubloaf. [He grins and starts to laugh] Are you sure you don't moonlight as a laughassassin?

[redglare waves her hand as though to say "pish posh".]
