[The Doctor's Sonic Screwdriver whirred

Another crash]

Oh come on!

[A small explosion occurs. Smoke fills the room, but the whirr is heard once more, and the smoke begins to clear up.]

Okay. [cough] Right then. [cough] Note to self --- or is it selves?

Well. Note to me: The Sonic Screwdriver does not work on lighty uppy collar thingies.

It's not surprising you haven't heard of them, little more than legend and fairy tale nowadays. Well, depending on when and where in nowadays you end up. Very old, Time Lords, ancient even. Not very friendly either, or big on the interacting and mingkling thing. No-interference policy, you see. Well. You know. Except me. Not really that good a rule following, I am.

You could say we're aliens, I suppose, but that's a bit rude considering we came first, so technically you humans are the aliens.

[Shoutarou watches the man while he explains, peering at him a bit.]

Well, all that tells me is that you're old and not of this world... [A bit rambly, this guy.] I assume that the "time" in that name is for something more than being old.

[Give him a second to look at you...hmmmm....okay]

We're time travellers, or well, I'm a time traveller.

[thisclinchesit]

Aha... [Shoutarou nods, rubbing his chin.] Worked with one a couple of times, in a manner of speaking. Didn't get to know him very well, though. [And by working with him, Shoutarou means they appeared in a pair of crossovers together.]

That's a shame. Time travellers are cool.

Aaaand that blue box I mentioned earlier, that's my time machine, my TARDIS. She's cool and brilliant and sexy and she better be alright, for our captor's sake at least.

[thisclinchesit]

[The 'sexy' comment earns a sliiiiiight eyebrow raise, but then again, some guys speak that way of cars, so...]

Well, the projects we were on were a bit, ah, high-activity, and everyone kind of went home in a hurry once they were done.

[Shoutarou walks to the Doctor's bed, and lightly kicks the chest at the end of the bed with his foot.] Unless she fits in here, I doubt she'll be here. Seems like all that we get from home is in those chests.

Yeaaaah, no. My TARDIS is the size of a police box.

But she's here, or someone here knows where she is. Probably the same someone with a penchant for lying and kidnapping. Curioser and curiouser.

Right then, Sherlock, want to tell me everything you know about this place so far?

[thisclinchesit]

[There's a slight wince at the explanation about the TARDIS.]

You able to sense it or something?

[Shoutarou gives a rundown that is rather equivalent to most of the stuff in his journal, touching briefly on the people he's met.]

[taking note of the wince]

No, but it's the only logical conclusion, only people I've taught -- and other Time Lords, of course -- can pilot the TARDIS, she's always with me wherever I go, if she's not with me, then someone's taken her, or someone's taken me and my friends are using her to find me. So she's around, either way.

Comunnications are blocked, though, normally I can reach the TARDIS. Right now, I can't. That means she's been taken, and whoever's got her also has me. I'm in a trap, as it were.

And if there is one thing you never ever want to put in a trap.

It's me.

[He grins] Excellent work, Shou. Looks like I'm going to be doing a bit of exploring.

[Guy's got confidence, at least.]

Hope you have better luck than the rest of us have had, then.

[He does beam a little though at someone appreciating the work he's done.] Let me know what you find, and do be careful - I'm guessing we don't get notifications of new arrivals, judging by you. I haven't even touched base with all those who showed up when I did yet - there may be some nasty surprises waiting out there.

Here's a fun fact for you Shou. Those nasty surprises that scare everyone? Bad guys, monsters, things that go bump in the night and fill your mind with fright and all that?

They're scared of me.

[Shoutarou grins and can't help a chuckle. A good bit of it is amusement, but he can't help but want to believe the guy, too.]

Let's just hope that transcends not being heard of.

Not being heard of?

Why kidnap me if they haven't heard of me? Not to mention that if they've got all this technology, they must be able to tell I'm not human at the very least. I mean, really, I've got two hearts. It should be obvious.

So if they either haven't heard of me, as you suggest, or they can't figure out that something's off, they'll be wishing they did.

[Shoutarou frowns a bit, stuffing his hands in his pockets.] Well - it seems that if you're a big deal where you come from, it's hit-and-miss here as to if anyone's heard of you. Nobody I've met has heard of Kamen Riders - nor have I heard of nation-people, or time lords...

[A breath, then a sigh.]

As for our captors, they told us that the selection process was random.

Random? I doubt that. Random seems too...random for people with this technology and intelligence.

I'm inclined to agree - both due to that, and for the fact that I don't trust our so-called 'benefactors'.

Yes, the trustworthy sort don't tend to put glowing collars on people or lock them in towers.

Exactly.

Well, I'm glad someone here has come to the same conclusions I have. Very refreshing. As much as I like to have faith in the best in people, I am not ignorant of the blatant red flags popping up all around here.

Alright then. So tell me about these Kamen Riders. Are you one? 'Course you're one. But what are they? Humans, I'd say. What do they do? Well, you're a good guy so I'd say they're the good guys. Why the name? It's interesting, cool. Means "Masked Rider" in English. Why the mask if you're good? Are you a sort of superhero perhaps? Yes, that would make more sense.

[Shoutarou was going to answer, but...it seems like a lot of the points got touched upon.]

...yeah, we're superheroes. Generally localized, but generally the idea is that we protect a particular place - and to some degree, the whole Earth - from whatever evils that crop up that we can stop. As for why the mask... [Shoutarou considers it, then shrugs.] It seems to come with the powers. My pa--associates and I generally worked with secret identities so it didn't draw trouble to our regular work and those who worked with us.

Aww yeah, I got almost all of that right. Excellent excellent. It all makes sense. You're a logical choice for them to kidnap. They've got me, they've got at least one superhero I know of, they've got a troll thingie, and entire nations contained in a person.

It all makes sense.

Except it doesn't. Because I met a little boy, Romeo, the other day. 100% human, from Rome a few hundred years back. 'Course there's a possibility he's the Romeo, as in Romeo and Juliet, in which case everything would make sense in a different sort of way.

Ah, Romeo, yeah - good kid from what I've seen.

While I want to believe there's some ulterior motive to their selection, the random does make sense - there's some of us that make sense, and then there's those that don't.

Unless those that don't are just here to throw us off the trail of the reasons - in which case, that makes them all the more despicable.

We'll just have to investigate further.
