Characters: Dawn Summers and OPEN
Setting: Dormitory floors, later cafeteria
Format: Starts prose but will match
Summary: Dawn's just woken up and she's not taking this well.
Warnings: None yet

The first indication of this new arrival in the tower is a loud, high pitched scream as Dawn finds the initial sleep paralysis wearing off and falls out of her bed, having been mentally struggling uselessly against whatever had been holding her but suddenly no longer is.

She picks herself up, gazing around the unfamiliar room before her eyes fall on the letter. She takes one look at it and runs from the room, not caring that she's still in the white bodysuit she woke up in and not noticing the trunk at the foot of her bed.

Around the dormitories, therefore, there is a teenage girl running around calling out a single name: Buffy. Finding her now means finding her in a frantic, panicked state because she has no idea what's going on right now.

Later, however, you might find her in the cafeteria, dressed in her own clothes now and sullenly poking at a bowl of oatmeal.

"Because she can't be gone again."

There's a fierce determination in her tone, perhaps overly determined for her not having a clue about where she is or what's going on but she knows she can't focus on that until she's found her sister - or failing that, someone else she knows but she's less concerned about that for now.

"'Again'?" Echidna inquired. It sounded like something heavy, but she couldn't help asking anyway.

She twiddled her fingers together ab it as she kept talking. "Um well, I do not think anyone is permanently gone anyway. I have seen people from other peoples' worlds show up here after they are supposedly gone, sooo.... " She only sounded half-convinced though.

That gets Dawn to stop pacing, if only because half of what Echidna said had made no sense whatsoever.

"What do you mean? We don't have a world anymore, that's what the letter said."

"Well it's like, someone will show up here, right? So it means their world has been destroyed by the time they wake up. But then some time later someone else will show up here from their world even though it was supposedly already destroyed!" She was making some big sweeping hand gestures to try and emphasize the point, but mostly she probably just looked a little crazy.

"So I do not know if anyone can really be permanently gone or something?"

Yeah, Dawn's just going to give her a look like she's crazy.

"Okay, I know multiple apocalypses are a thing but even that doesn't explain what's happening here. Are you saying our worlds aren't really gone, that they just want us to think they are?"

Whoever "they" are but one crisis at a time.

"Maybe? No one really knows. I think some people think our worlds are gone and other people think it's just a trap and everything's just fine on the outside," She said with a shrug. Completely unfazed by being looked at like she's a freak, yep.

"If our worlds ARE gone, my bet is either Time Shenanigans, or they're holding people in cold storage or something until they wake them up. Or something."

"You mean no-one knows? Wait, where even are we if we're not in our worlds?"

She knows she's getting distracted but this sounds like important information and maybe it's better she knows something when she does find Buffy. That way, she can help.

"As far as I know, no know one knows. We're in some big freaky horror tower in the middle of nowhere or some pocket dimension." She's just gonna keep throwing out random theories and nonsense and all that. "There are people that run this tower, but I do not think they like to talk to us much, and they seem to like being creepy."

"Pocket dimension...like an alternate reality or something?"

Dawn's seen her fair share of weird but she's still not liking the sounds of this place.

"You keep saying us...how many people are here, exactly?"

"Possibly! It does not seem to be anywhere on earth, and I have seen people here from alternate timelines or worlds from other people that have been here, or people that I know." One day she'll start keeping a chart of all of the alternates, and it will be ridiculous. But for now, she's sounding much more upbeat while she's explaining all of this weirdness. Oddly enough.

"Lots of people I think; I have talked to a lot of people, and I do not think that is even everyone. From all sorts of different worlds and times!"

"Y-you mean like a dimensional bleed or something?"

Okay, that's definitely not a good thing. Though she's pretty sure that at least she's probably not responsible for this one.

"So...why bring us all here?"

"I guess so? If you mean a bunch of different dimensions coming together." She had never necessarily heard of a dimensional bleed, but it sounded like an accurate description of whatever was going on.

Echidna folded her hands behind her back, giving yet another little shrug. "No idea. They say they are rescuing us from the destruction of our world, but other than that no one has any solid idea."

Okay, yeah, not able to stop herself freaking out over that now. She quickly checks herself over for any apparent wounds that she might somehow not have noticed, which is pretty tricky in a white bodysuit but damn if she isn't trying anyway.

"No, no, that's bad! Th-the dimensions, they have barriers for a reason. Take those away and bad things happen. We have to find a way to stop it!"

"Huh? What happens?" She asked, looking a bit confused how at the ever increasing panic. "I think it is kind of cool! You get to meet people from toooootally different worlds, and like things like fairies and magic is real and stuff!"

"No, you don't understand!" Dawn began to pace a little, unable to keep still. "The dimensions...some of them are really bad. Like, hell levels of bad. And all the different times, different places...everything falls apart if those barriers aren't there."

Oh. That kind of made sense. Echidna stood still, watching Dawn pace back and forth.

"That makes sense I guess, since I guess if the dimensions aren't separated that means horror terrors could leak in from the 6th dimension or Hitler could come back from the 20th century or something." A beat, as she thought a bit more. "But if all the worlds are apparently destroyed, would it be that much of an issue?"

This was all falling into place far too logically for Dawn's liking; if anything she appeared even more anxious at that final comment. "Maybe it's connected. Maybe that's what's happening; the dimensions are all crashing into each other and it's tearing them all apart."

"You think the dimensions connecting is what caused them to be destroyed and bring us here in the first place?" Echidna finally summed up, a look of surprise on her face. If that was it, it kind of really sucked

"Well it makes sense, doesn't it? I mean, apart from why this place isn't affected but there's probably a-a spell or something that could protect it." While this had definitely distracted her from finding her sister, for now, she was starting to wish she'd never started down this conversation path.

"All sorts of weird stuff happens around here, so I wouldn't be surprised if they had some kind of magical dohickey to protect this place from tears in space-time. Or something." She probably should have been more worried about this than she sounded, but she was still new to all this not-normal stuff.

"Is there some way to fix it you think?

Dawn chewed her lip, the topic still too recent for her to discuss easily.

"It depends how they did it."

It was as much as she could get out without needing to go into stuff she didn't want to discuss with someone she didn't know.

Sorry Dawn but Echidna is far too curious to let you get off the hook just like that. "There are different ways to rip open the divide between dimensions?"

She shrugged, fidgeting with her hair and not quite meeting Echidna's gaze. "I guess. It kinda depends on the dimensions and what's separating them."

"Well, I know there is one dimension with like, fairies and stuff and people that fight with swords and is kind of medieval-y. And there is another with aliens called trolls with grey skin and candy corn horns, and another with like, magic and stuff. Actually I think there are a lot of ones with magic."

Yep she was apparently just going to list different kind of universes she'd encountered. That was being helpful, right?

Normally, Dawn would be all for discussing these various dimensions; at the moment all it was doing was confirming that the various dimensions were too varied and too many to be brought together by anything on a smaller scale than what Glory had tried to do.

"And they're all supposed to be separated. No wonder our worlds are dying."
