Setting: Dormitory floors, later cafeteria

Summary: Dawn's just woken up and she's not taking this well.
Warnings: None yet

The first indication of this new arrival in the tower is a loud, high pitched scream as Dawn finds the initial sleep paralysis wearing off and falls out of her bed, having been mentally struggling uselessly against whatever had been holding her but suddenly no longer is.

She picks herself up, gazing around the unfamiliar room before her eyes fall on the letter. She takes one look at it and runs from the room, not caring that she's still in the white bodysuit she woke up in and not noticing the trunk at the foot of her bed.

Around the dormitories, therefore, there is a teenage girl running around calling out a single name: Buffy. Finding her now means finding her in a frantic, panicked state because she has no idea what's going on right now.

Later, however, you might find her in the cafeteria, dressed in her own clothes now and sullenly poking at a bowl of oatmeal.

[Romeo thought for a moment.] Erm... well one of us could stay here and the other one could go look at the doors!

"Okay."

She paced a little in front of the terminal.

"I should wait here. I-I mean, if she's here she might be looking for me so I should stay where I can be found."

Romeo nodded. "That's a good idea. You wait here, I will go look at the doors. Her name is Buffy right?"

She nodded. "That's right. Buffy Summers."

Okay I'll be back soon! [And off he ran

He was a good fifteen minutes because there were lots of names to read but when he returned he looked sad.] Her name isn't there.

[By the time he returns, Dawn's exactly where she was when he left. Her eyes widen in disbelief at his news]

What do you mean? It has to be.

[Romeo shook his head.] I checked all the doors... she might come later. But not everyone comes here...

No...

[She began to pace again, voice trembling as she spoke]

No, she's not...she can't be gone again, it's not fair!

[Romeo went to grasp her hand, to try and calm her down. She was an adult but she was upset about losing her sister.] It's not but lots of things aren't fair here, she's not gone she's just not here. That means she's safe!

How can she be safe?

[Dawn paced away, unable to keep still]

How is she safe if the world is gone?

The world isn't gone! [He rushed after her.] It's not gone! The bad people are lying!

[She paused]

How do you know?

Because, the worlds can't be gone! [He smiles at her] There's some people here who are part of countries, like they are their country. It's a bit complicated but they all told me that if the world was gone they would be dead because they can't live without their country. But they aren't dead and so the world isn't gone!

[Long stare]

That doesn't make any sense. A-and even if it did, how do you know there isn't a spell or something that's keeping them alive?

[He blinks, he hadn't thought of that! In all this time, but he guessed she was right, after all if they could turn him into a dear, and control everybody, and make the tower change shape... maybe they could make the country people live.]

It can't have ended! Anyways I've been here for ages and you only just arrived, so if the world ended why didn't we all come at the same time!

Maybe we're just all from different dimensions.

[Actually feasible as far as she's concerned]

What's a dimension? [You're worrying him now. But he has to be right, all the adults keep telling him the world didn't end, so it can't have!]

It's, I guess, it's sort of like a world and normally they're supposed to stay separated because otherwise bad things happen, but I don't think this is anywhere in Sunnydale and if it were then my sister would be here so it has to be different.

Well everyone here is from different worlds but I don't know about dimensions. Is Sunnydale where you come from miss?

[She nods]

Yeah, it is. But worlds, dimensions, really it's all just different words for the same thing.

[He nodded as well.] Well the bad people said all the worlds ended so that means all the dimensions ended but I don't think that happened!

Well...yeah. That's what would happen if the barriers were gone.

Why don't you think it happened?

Because... [Because it was too scary to think about, he wanted to believe that it hadn't ended, that they could beat the bad people and all go home.]

Because it can't have, if the barriers were all gone and all the worlds ended they'd all end at the same time right? But I've been here for ages miss and you only just got here!

Not necessarily. Maybe their ritual lets them do it stage by stage. Maybe it's more complicated than- [catching herself] than we might expect it to be.

You... think the bad people made the world end?
