[001] Time to wake Up Princess [Open]

Summary: Kairi wakes up in a shiny new location. Time to explore.

Sleep paralysis was a terrifying thing. Kairi could only be grateful that it didn't last longer than half a minute. Afterwards her eyes flew open, and she found herself laying on a bed in a completely unfamiliar bedroom. She sat up quickly heartbeat picking up as she wondered what in the world had happened to her. She was no stranger to waking up in unfamiliar places, but it didn't mean she liked it. And if this wasn't Traverse Town, she didn't know if any of her friends would know where she was.

Fortunately, she found the letters before she could go into a complete panic. She read each of them through more than once, making sure she understood. Another world had disappeared, and somehow she'd been brought here for safety.... or at least some semblance of safety. For a few moments she sat in silence with the letters resting in her palms, sadly wondering if what had happened to the Destiny Islands had befallen Traverse Town. But it wouldn't do to just sit here, she had to look around.... see if she could find anyone she recognized.

Before she left the room, she peeked inside the chest at the bottom of her bed. She recognized some of the clothing and things inside, but she didn't take more than a minute to take inventory. She could always come back to this.

And so, with the click of her door, Kairi stepped out to take a look around.

I'm so glad you're okay... [If he's been here a while, then he can tell her what this is all about.]

A while? When did you get here? Is Sora with you?

[keybearer]

[He was going to ask why he wouldn't be, but... Nah. That can wait.

As for the next bit... hrmmm.]

Well, that's where it gets complicated. I've been here for a few weeks now, and Sora's here too, but here's the kicker; there's two of him here.

[luckycharmed]

[Whao. Wait. What?]

Two...?

[keybearer]

[Aaand he nods. No, this isn't the punchline to a joke, and he looks pretty serious.]

And get this: one of them said he tried to kill me.

[It's... not pleasant to think about, but it's very much a real experience for him.]

[luckycharmed]

[She gasps, her forehead crinkling in disbelief.]

K-Kill? But why? Sora would never...

[keybearer]

Exactly. I still don't know why he'd do something like that.

[His brow furrows, and he looks away.]

But that's just one Sora. The other... he's fine, just behind on the times, I guess. The last thing he remembers was the islands-- well, you get the picture.

[luckycharmed]

It can't be right...

[She leans forward, so she can keep looking at Riku's face. She doesn't like it when he looks away.]

He's okay though, right?

[keybearer]

Yeah, he's fine. Better than fine.

[His tone isn't particularly happy, though, and he continues to avoid looking her in the eye.]

I mean, he's still got his heart, so...

[luckycharmed]

[Kairi's expression flickers back to confusion. Of course Sora had his heart, she'd helped him out back at Hollow Bastion.

Did Riku not know that?]

Of course he does...

[keybearer]

It's just-- the Sora I know... doesn't.

[Which means that Kairi is probably from another dimension or another time, just like that Sora.

Not that it changes how happy he is to see her, of course. It just leaves him with an uneasy feeling, knowing that his Sora is so bad off by comparison, and it's all his fault.]

[luckycharmed]

What? What do you mean, Riku?

[She reaches out, gently resting a hand on his arm in a gesture of comfort.]

[keybearer]

Well, after he freed your heart, he just... disappeared.

[He winces. The gesture is both familiar and comforting, however; it definitely helps to some degree. After traveling with his universe's Kairi for so long, he's grown accustomed to it.

Not that it eliminates his guilt.]

Then Ansem showed up, and we barely had any time to stick around. And after that, I looked everywhere for him. It took forever, and by the time I saw him again, he was... an empty shell.

[There. That's what he knows in a nutshell, anyway.]

[luckycharmed]

[She frowns now... because that is, of course, not how it happened for her. And while she knows the Sora she left behind is just fine.... it worries her that another Sora somewhere is in danger.]

I'm sorry. [What can she say to help?]

[keybearer]

No, don't be.

[He shakes his head, balling one hand into a fist without even thinking.]

It's my fault. I opened the door, and that's what started everything.

[He led to everything that happened. That's just how he sees it.]

[luckycharmed]

It's not your fault. And it'll be okay, I'm sure it will. [She squeezes his arm again.

She really can't stand to see her friend look so upset.]

[keybearer]

...Right.

[He sighs. She's right, after all. Hopefully. It's hard to say when he got dragged to the tower with about a million loose ends remaining.]

Can't give up just yet. Sora wouldn't want that.

[luckycharmed]

That's right. Just have faith, Riku. [She smiles brightly now.]

For now, we're here, so we have to make the most of it.

[keybearer]

...Right. Just wish it wasn't so rough here.

[He'll at least try to smile back at her, though, even if it's somewhat forced.]
