That is Filia taking very angry steps (okay, stomping) through the floors of the dormitory, stopping at each room to read the names of its inhabitants. She looks upset.

[Lina walks up right on schedule, having caught what Filia said. Great, the weird lady that knows her is talking with Sayaka. This is bound to go wonderfully.]

I dunno what exactly, but it's waaay too elaborate for a mere trick.

[ Are you prepared to have a golden dragon latch onto your shoulders, Lina? Are you prepared for the waterworks? ]

But- But we defeated Dark Star together! You and I and Mr. Gourry, Miss Amelia and Mr. Zelgadis! ... And Xellos!

[Lina's face grows a bit more serious at that revelation.]

I've defeated a piece of Shabranigdu with Zelgadis and Gourry, but not Dark Star. He's in a whole other world--

[A beat. The way others have talked about alternate realities of their own worlds, maybe this is something like that...]

Or is he the Dark Lord of the Mazoku where you come from?

And for that matter, who's Xellos?

[ Now it's Filia's turn to stare at Lina as if she'd grown another head. ]

Dark Star was summoned to destroy the our world... That was the prophecy my temple [ former ] received, and the reason why I sought you out. As for Xellos...

You honestly don't know?

[Lina's eyes widen a bit, and there's a chill down her back - a complete Dark Lord being summoned is some serious stuff.]

I would remember something huge like THAT happening for sure. And no, I don't know a Xellos.

[A pause.]

[ a complete dark lord that merged with a god even, yuuup.

Filia turns away, bringing her hand to her cheek. This is troubling... ]

Have you seen any sign of the Mazoku here?

Well, I ran across something that was kind-of Mazoku-ish once. [coughSAYAKA] That was just one instance, though. Bunch of us beat it down and it hasn't returned.

[aurous]

[ Hmm.

She looks at Lina again. ]

I was under the impression that this entire tower is the product of their malice, but... I don't feel them at all...

[ And that's almost more frightening, really. At least the Mazoku were something familiar. ]

Yeah. The weirdos in charge, whatever they are, aren't Mazoku.

She blinks. ]

What happened to your original equipment?

[Wait, what.

Lina gives Filia a confused look, then looks down at herself.]

I dunno, it's been a long time since I traveled with Naga...

[aurous]

Your shoulder armor... [ She tries to outline it with her hand, as if she were the one wearing it, but the action isn't very helpful. ] It was more... rigid?

[ She taps her imaginary Lina-shoulder-armor on each side. ] Two large gems and... [ She brings her finger right above her collar bone. ] A talisman, here.

[dragonspooker]

[Lina blinks, then shakes her head.] No, my last set only had one kinda like that. [She raises a hand, and makes a circular motion around Filia's left shoulder.] The other one was rounded, and it came down a little bit, but I didn't have a talisman here, though... [She pulls her hand to her own collar bone area.]

[aurous]

[ She closes her eyes, a perplexed 'hmm', 'hmm', and then another 'hmmmm' peppering the silence as she tilts her head this way and that, as if a new angle might tip the answer out of her skull.

She crosses her arms over her chest. ]

Your memory must have been tampered with. [ YEP. That explained everything!! ]

I hope that's not the case, but knowing the stuff these people are capable of, I wouldn't be surprised...

[Marty was hearing some strange things about spiders running around lately, so he had taken to either sticking around the Doc or to one of the floors that had less monsters than normal.

Still, he had forgotten his hoverboard when he woke up and they kind of needed that, so he had been in his room for a second when very stompy sort of footsteps came from the hallway.

Tucking the hoverboard under his arm, he stepped outside and saw a really strange girl. But hey, they were all strange around here.]

Uh, can I help you?

[aurous]

[ She turned around, then automatically dismissed his room. Miss Lina wasn't crass enough to share a room with the opposite sex, after all!! (... Right?)

But here was a nice boy offering assistance. Filia managed to untwist her facial features (a little). ]

Yes, I would appreciate it if you could! Do you know where Lina Inverse is staying?

You mean the red headed lady? I'm pretty sure she, uh... actually, now that I think about it, the girls are all up on Floor 1 or 2.

[In response, Marty drops it, but it doesn't just fall to the floor. It flops over and starts hovering on the floor, letting out a soft hum.]

Oh, uh, mechanics? I guess? I'm not sure how exactly it works, but it kinda generates an anti-gravity field.
