DREAM A LITTLE DREAM WITH ME

Characters: all the characters involved in the Dream Event
Setting: various dreams, various locations
Format: any
Summary: Xehanort draws a large amount of the tower into worlds constructed from their dreams in an attempt to learn about everyone en masse
Warnings: ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING

[Tendrils of magic wound their way around, lines of energy flickered into existence, forming a large shape on the ground around where Xehanort sat with his back straight and legs tucked neatly beneath him. Perfect. It was a bigger scale than the one he'd done but a month before, already he could feel the flickers of connection, the shape getting brighter and more defined.

More participants. More mental drag. There was little to worry about. With Xigbar on guard duty, his sleeping body would be quite safe. No, it was time to dream... and see just who would follow.

Darkness shrouded his hand, keyblade flaring into life, and he gripped the handle in both hands, aiming it at the ground, at the keyhole defined by criss-crossing darkness responding, resonating...

drowsiness laced through him, the blade in his hands sagging downward until the tip touched the ground, his posture slacking, head and shoulders slumping slightly

in slumber, the dreams of others awaited

the Master was asleep.]

OOC NOTE BECAUSE I CAN'T EDIT THE POST IT'S ON ANYMORE AND NOT REDOING ALL OF THAT: Dreamers should post to their REAL WORLD thread explaining where their character is, if they made it to a bed or if they're on the floor somewhere or wherever.

If you have questions for me, put them in your base character thread!

If I missed you somehow, let me know and I'll add you to the appropriate section!

Alucard's hyperventilating and occasional trembles of grief slowly began to subside as he felt more and more at ease in the Elf's grip. Had he more of his senses about him he probably would have been apologising profusely for what Haldir had just witnessed but he did not have the capacity for such trains of thought at this time.

"... Haldir." Alucard whispered, not to get his attention or in the hopes of a response, just repeating the name to himself as if the sound alone brought him some small comfort.

The dhampir's eyes closed and, at last, the tears stopped. Eventually Alucard began to speak properly once more (quiet as his voice was) "I loved her," he began, clearly referring to his mother "I don't know if I ever really told her that I did, I suppose she must have known." A long pause before he goes on to explain what had happened before this fated evening, Alucard's voice was just above a whisper, but in this dark silence it filled the whole town "The village suspected her of witchcraft for some time, supposing that only someone associated with the black arts could ever love my father. I don't think she was really a witch, there was nothing dark about her, maybe that was why father loved her so." a deep breath, holding back a second wave of tears "I didn't want her to die, and when she did I wanted revenge, but before she did die she said something to me that I never forgot. She said: 'Do not hate humans. If you cannot live with them, then at least do them no harm. For theirs is already a hard lot'." a sad, bitter-sweet chuckle "You... have to understand how much I wanted them to suffer, but I just couldn't do what I wanted to. Not with those words in me. Father had no pity for them though. He had no pity for anyone."

Once the bloody tears ceased to fall, Haldir knew then that Alucard was finally awake. While still trapped in his hideous nightmare, the Elf could sense that Alucard's consciousness was beginning to awake. The dhampir's voice was raw and filled with emotion as he spoke so sweetly about his beautiful mother. Those who deemed that woman as a "witch" must've been blind or dumb for she certainly didn't look like a witch to Haldir. If anything, the poor woman looked like a trembling saint before being devoured by the flames.

Clutching Alucard closer to his chest, the Elf simply nodded as he listened to him. What could he possibly say now that could cushion the pain even just a little? Haldir felt as if words were useless here, useless and out rated. Had he lost his kin due to such violence, Haldir's rage may have led to some quite unspeakable acts. However, Alucard was rather noble not to paint the streets of this horrid town in blood.

"Shh..." he muttered once Alucard began to speak once more. "Vengeance only breeds hatred, mithaer. You was wise not to partake within such crude devours. Staining your hands in blood would not bring your beloved mother back. Surely your father realized this in the end."

"He did." Alucard said, pained, after adding (much quieter this time) "At my hand."

Yes, Alucard had been the one to stop his father, nobody else could have matched his power, and perhaps the saddest thing of all was the possibility that Dracula hadn't fought at his full capacity because it had been Alucard who had faced him. That idea often tormented Alucard when he was left with his thoughts, what if his father had let him kill him.

In the background there were weak shouts of the commoners as they seemed to be building up a small pile of wood in exactly the same place that Lisa had been burnt in.

History was about to repeat itself - not that Alucard knew that.

Alucard's mind felt clouded, as if a mist was rolling in over his memories, but for the time being he still knew what was happening (even if it took more concentration than it should have). "You... didn't flee." Alucard whispers, the gravity of Haldir's kindness finally hitting him "Were you not afraid? You barely know me and yet you came to comfort me."

A scoff nearly escaped the Elf's lips when Alucard asked him if he was afraid. Of course he was scared, especially since he had no idea what was happening at first. Yet once he noticed a streak of silver hair darting through the crowd, Haldir's curiosity got the better of him. Whatever fate that awaited for Alucard intrigued the Elf more so than he was willing to admit. He wanted to help the dhampir, to try and save his mother from a fate far too cruel to describe. If he could at least get close enough to put out the flames, then maybe dear Lisa won't have die in every nightmare that Alucard dreams. This is why Haldir didn't flee, this is why he followed and thrusts himself into the chaos alongside Alucard.

"How could I just leave you here?" he asked softly in a hushed whisper. "You looked as if the world just collapsed around you as the one you loved the most was fated to be burned alive." Now nuzzling his cheek against those soft silvery locks, Haldir held him a little tighter against him. "I could never turn my back on anyone during such a fright. It would be against my very morals to do so. While many do jest about me being quite cold and distant, I cannot simply turn away when others are in need."

A strange feeling was beginning to wash over Alucard and it wasn't the premonition of the dream about to repeat itself.

This closeness, the warmth of Haldir's embrace and the sweetness of his words. No one, bar his own mother, had ever been so willing to be this close to him. Never in over five-hundred years had someone held him, cradled him, with such care and attention. Whether it was the intense emotions of the dream or something deeper Alucard felt himself beginning to forget what he had just seen and focus on this. On Haldir.

"So, you would have come to the aid of anyone, if you had seen such a thing?" Why ask? Because if Haldir would have comforted anybody in this way then... that didn't make what was happening now the exception.

At the very instant Alucard asked that question, Haldir went completely rigid. Would he honestly hold any other in the same manner as he does now? The Elf doubted he would coddle anyone like this other than his own brothers and barely that. It was quite unusual to be offering such support in this way and form, especially since Haldir always prided himself in keeping his distance from others. However, the more securely he wrapped his arms around Alucard stated otherwise.

Feeling a tad silly now for letting such emotions get the better of his judgment, Haldir almost released Alucard completely from his grasp as he tried to hide his embarrassment. "Is it truly necessary for me to answer that now?" he asked, almost pleading for Alucard to let the subject lie.

Poor Alucard, always the pessimist, perhaps if he had his wits about him he may not have seen Haldir's release as such a negative thing, but in this dhampir's mind it meant that the Elf had finally seen some error in his actions.

They all did, he thought with a heavy heart. What madness to think that Haldir considered him special. Special wasn't the word for what he was, and with that sobering thought in mind he stood up and turned, noticing the villagers continuing to pile the tinder and wood.

"I feel as though I'm forgetting myself, something is slipping from my thoughts." as Haldir had wanted, the subject had changed, but Alucard's tone spoke volumes. He didn't seem quite so at ease as he had been moments earlier. "It's going to happen again, I can sense it. Maybe this time I can help her..."

Unaware of any pessimistic thoughts Alucard may have possessed, Haldir's eyes widened in shock as he watched the villagers set the stage again. It seems that this nightmare was nothing more than an endless loop. It's a stark reminder of Alucard's bloody past, a reminder of the innocence he lost on that fateful day.

As this horrid macabre was just about to begin anew, Haldir pulled Alucard against him and hugged him tightly once more. This was an act on impulse, one done in hopes of blocking the dhampir's view of the scene that was about to be acted out once more. "Don't look." he commanded in a soothing tone. "No matter how many times you try to save your mother, the truth remains true." Knowing that his words must've sound rather cold to Alucard's ears, the Elf then tried to soothe him further by tenderly brushing the hair out of the dhampir's tormented gaze.

"Please, don't torture yourself any further now. You've seen your mother die one too many times."

It bordered on being pathetic, Alucard stammered to try and defend his meaningless actions, so desperate to save his mother from this reoccuring Hell.

"But... maybe this time I can help her. this time I can save her. If I just move faster, dodge the crowd better... I... I..."

He sighed, feeling himself lean into that embrace. It all felt so helpless.
