Summary: Xehanort draws a large amount of the tower into worlds constructed from their dreams in an attempt to learn about everyone en masse

[Tendrils of magic wound their way around, lines of energy flickered into existence, forming a large shape on the ground around where Xehanort sat with his back straight and legs tucked neatly beneath him. Perfect. It was a bigger scale than the one he'd done but a month before, already he could feel the flickers of connection, the shape getting brighter and more defined.

More participants. More mental drag. There was little to worry about. With Xigbar on guard duty, his sleeping body would be quite safe. No, it was time to dream... and see just who would follow.

Darkness shrouded his hand, keyblade flaring into life, and he gripped the handle in both hands, aiming it at the ground, at the keyhole defined by criss-crossing darkness responding, resonating...

drowsiness laced through him, the blade in his hands sagging downward until the tip touched the ground, his posture slacking, head and shoulders slumping slightly

in slumber, the dreams of others awaited

[This is... wow. Jeanne never would have guessed the other girl had gone through such a horrible ordeal. And it... really touched her deeply. A land dominated by the enemy, its rightful heir forced to flee for safety... Hm.]

And nobody attempted to fight back? Nobody sought her out to provide their aid, to help gather a force to take back the throne?

[Almost unconsciously, Sheik's hand balls into a fist. But he presses onward. He must not let his emotions show.]

The Princess was but a child at the time, and the Evil King possesses a power no normal man or army can match. The man can raise monstrous creatures to go his bidding, and lays waste to the land with curses that can immobilize an entire race.

... Large scale resistance at this time would only serve to cause more casualties.

A child... [Jeanne's heart aches a bit. She had only known the other girl for a few short weeks, but that was really all she needed. It was quite easy to sense Zelda's kindness; to know that she had been subjected to such horrors in her past is a harsh thing to imagine.]

If no action could be taken against that man... was the Princess at least kept safe?

[She was an adult when Jeanne met her, so of course nothing unfortunate could have happened to her. But still...]

[This woman is friendly, caring, and Sheik is sorely tempted to confirm that yes, she was, there's not need to worry, she'll return soon, but... he can't. It's too risky - the ambiguity of the Princess' fate is another shield for him, and should the Evil King catch wind that she is indeed alive and well, he may just step up his pursuit.]

... She was last seen escaping the castle on the day of the King's assassination. Only the caretaker she was seen riding with knows her status now.

[There are no lies in his words, and yet... he cannot tell the complete truth.]

... I see.

[Certainly not the ideal news she wanted to hear, but it's certainly better than bad news.]

There is hope, then. It is a tiny spark, but it's still there.

[... Sheik shakes his head.]

There is hope, but it does not rest with the Princess. Now, Hyrule's hope rests with a young boy who will one day liberate us and become the Hero of Time.

[Most would question what one boy - one single person - could do to turn the tides of war. But that would just seem silly for Jeanne, whose own actions did the very same.]

Hope is not simply found in the ones that fight for it. Many people look to their leaders for hope as well; even if those leaders do not raise a sword themselves, if their subjects see them remaining strong through such conflict, then they can remain strong as well.

[Jeanne's words seem to strike a chord in the Sheikah's heart, and he turns away, as if falling back into the shadows for safety. He is not the loudest of people, but his voice grows quiet, even for him.]

... And if said subjects cannot see them or their supposed strength? If they hide away in the darkness waiting for someone who can accomplish what they cannot?

It is... difficult to say. I cannot speak for all the people of this kingdom, because it is a completely alien one to me. But... if this was my homeland, if I had been here for the destruction and the war...

... I would still refuse to give up hope. [And then... she smiles.] Unless the usurper can confirm the death of the one who has the true right to rule this land, then hope is not lost. She may be in hiding, but she is still out there, and that alone would be enough to give hope to many people.

[Sheik is... quiet for a moment, as if carefully considering her words. Eventually, though, something in his disposition seems to relax, and if one didn't know any better, they might say there's a slight smile behind his collar.]

... You are an optimistic one. It is... refreshing, to see such faith.

[He can't tell her what her words mean to him, can't tell her how they give him a bit more hope on their own, but he is grateful, all the same.]

Faith is an amazing thing, is it not? [She places a hand over her heart.] It can keep you strong even in the darkest of hours.

Like a light in a storm... the promise of peace after the dangers have been braved...

[Slowly, his eyes fall on the empty pedestal in the center of the room.]

... We can only hope one day our faith will be rewarded.

[Her eyes follow his gaze, and a look of curiosity crosses her face when she spots the pedestal, but she refrains from asking for the moment.]

It will be. Of that, I am sure.
