2nd Recipe - Substitute Ingredients

[Room 3-11, Dorms - Day 1]

[At first, Kazumi barely even notices anything is amiss as she gets up - her body is, more or less the same, and she's half asleep. It's only when she goes to brush her hair and pokes her ears that she notices...]

Huh, what?

[And feeling around, she confirms that yes, she has dog ears. Staring in the mirror, she tries to clear her eyes but everything remains kind of blurry until she squints up close. That. That is not her face at all.]

What's going ooooon!?

[Floor 1, Cafeteria - Any Day]

[Dressed in Jade's dogtier godtier outfit and equipped with glasses, Kazumi is... down in the kitchens of course. She's cooking up a storm as usual, and more than willing to share. If you think it's odd that Jade is cooking so much, you recognize Kazumi's cooking (can people do that???) or are just hungry, come bother her!]

[Floor 25, Meadow - Any Day]

[Kazumi-in-Jade's body is out enjoying this one peaceful floor quietly... right until she sees one of the tinkerbulls go fluttering by. Normally she just feels kind of sorry for them but something about the way this one flies by just... makes her... want to...]

[Floor 10, Aquarium - Any Day]

[Kazumi is trying out Jade's space powers... shrinking things down or making them bigger. Mostly trying it on some of the fish, making tiny sharks or humongous minnows. She's giggling and having a lot of fun with it, though she jumps back in surprise when she accidentally makes a fish so big it bursts out of the wall of water, almost hitting her before she quickly shrinks it back down]

Aack! Geez, that was scary...

Um, flour, oatmeal, eggs, butter, sugar, butterscotch chips, vanilla extract... is there something you're allergic to? Or, uh, I guess that your body is allergic to?

N-no.

[It seems that these cookies might be alright to consume then.]

It is just that I have eaten some...things before. Things that I would like to never taste again.

Ohh... well, just tell me what you do or don't like and I'll try to cook accordingly!

[She just assumes she means foods she found icky]

I...think I would want to stay away from meat products for a while.

Okay, well the cookies and fruit salad should be fine then. The red sauce on the pasta has sausage in it though. I could make some vegetables if you like?

[homurosa]

That would be wonderful.

[And she is similing again.]

Alright, I'll be right back! Help yourself to any of the others things while I get that started.

[And Kazumi bounced off towards the kitchen, ears twitching happily.

It was only about fifteen minutes before she came back, preceded by the savory smell of stir-fried vegetables in a parmesan and olive-oil dressing, still sizzling a bit in the pan]

dammit, now my mouth is watering

[She takes a deep whiff of the food. It smells delicious, almost on the same level as that of Gohda-san.]

No, thank you for cooking this. I have never seen something so delicious in the tower before.

Eheheh... I try! It's really a shame more people don't cook, since the food we're given isn't much. I heard there's a restaurant, but also that it's dangerous.

Go ahead and eat up!

[Setting the pan down and pushing the spoon towards Rosa, Kazumi grabs a plate and starts fillin up some things for herself from the other dishes]

[Rosa carefully scoops up some of the noodles with a fork. Just as slowly and carefully, she puts the noodles in her mouth.]

Mmm! It's good!

Heheh, I'm glad you like it! I always cook for my friends, so it's nice to help other people enjoy food too!

Ah...

[Different from Gohda then. Gohda had loved to cook too, but he had seen it as a job and as an art.]

I've cooked before as well...

[She had cooked for Maria and for herself. It had been fun for both of them, but as her work and romantic life consumed her, she had stopped doing it.]

But I'm afraid I have yet to reach your level.

Eheh... well, it's thanks to my Grandma being such a great teacher! Most of my recipes are from her.

[homurosa]

Was she a professional?

[witchofpleiades]

No, she just liked cooking a lot! And I liked eating, so she taught me how to cook too.

[homurosa]

...It was that simple?

[Then again, the Ushiromiya had been too formal, too rich.]

[witchofpleiades]

Mm, I guess? It really just takes practice and working with recipes for a lot of it.

[homurosa]

Then...what happens if the results are unpalatable?

[witchofpleiades]

Well, most recipes should be fine if you follow it right. You might have to make sure you did it well? Or it might take adjusting, either the cooking times or maybe the spices. You also have to be sure your ingredients are good too! Bad ingredients can ruin a dish no matter how well you cook it.

[homurosa]

Is that so? As long as there's no obvious spoilage, it should be alright, right?

[witchofpleiades]

Generally, yeah. This is if you're following a recipe. If you're making up your own, you have to consider what goes together and such. That sort of takes experience and, well, working with a lot of recipes! You start to see what sort of things go together.

[homurosa]

[She slowly shakes her head.]

I've been doing this for three years alongside my daughter. But I've yet to be able to invent any recipes or improvise something like you can.

[witchofpleiades]

Hmm... [It's kind of weird to see someone who looks her age talk about a "daughter"; Kazumi has to remind her its someone else in this girl's body]

Well, making up your own things takes some creativity and imagination... and it's not really something everyone spends a lot of time thinking about! I guess it's really why we have cooks and people who cook. But I think anyone should be able to at least get good with recipes though, if they just practice.

[homurosa]

Creativity...

[She falls silent. Even though she was interested in fashion, she acted mostly in a management capacity. Most of the designs were done by others. She herself never had much creativity. She had been too...stupid for that.]

Something like that! I guess it helps if you spend a lot of time trying different foods and thinking about it a lot too... well, most people just want to eat something tasty without thinking about it too hard! Which is fine too, of course. It makes me happy that they like it.
