He's sitting on a chair next to a table with a book on time theory in front of him.

He is also mumbling to himself.

There is a piece of white paper with math scribbles and dates on it.

Kinda hard to say... most of this stuff is legend in my time. I'm from 1985.

...well, that does explain the hair.

What? What's wrong with my hair?

[There's no mirror around but he starts to run fingers through it self-consciously.]

What's not wrong with it!

Hey, look buddy... I take really good care of my hair.

[Hmph.]

What about those dreadlocks of yours?

[andajarofdirt]

I'll have you know my dreads are perfect.

[Jack points an accusing finger at Marty's face. And gets seconded by the friggin' monkey that suddenly bursts from under the dreads, slides along Jack's arm and peers at Marty before screeching in his face.]

Jack.

[Sudden Monkey Screech wasn't something Marty was... quite expecting. He gave a yell and fell backward, leaning too far and taking the chair with him.

WHUMP]

[andajarofdirt]

[Jack shook his arm, trying to dislodge the monkey, but all it did was make the little pest swing around his arm and roll back to his shoulder, where he proceeded to grab a dread and start to chew it.]

Just how long have you been there anyway?

[The monkey made a little unsure sound, shrugging with its mouth full of pirate hair.]

...fair enough.

[Finally, Jack leans over to look at Marty.]

You still alive down there?

[deloreandriver]

...barely.

[He was getting up now, slowly recovering from the scare.]

Bit of a green stalk, are we?

[deloreandriver]

I've never had a monkey yell at me.

[He seems all right though, just a little hair muss.]

I thought all the sailor guys wore wigs or something.

[andajarofdirt]

Some of them do.

[Jack made a face.]

Bloody annoying, really. They're always losing the stupid things in the middle of a fight.

[deloreandriver]

Huh, they do? No pinning them down or something?

[andajarofdirt]

Not very good in a fight with a pirate, mate, them pins.

[Jack grins wryly.]

Better just to keep to your own hair, really.
