towerofanimus | Hacking #05: Cold days

Characters: April and anyone else!
Setting: Floor 13, Floor 32 and Floor 1.
Format: Brackets to start with, but I can match you!
Summary: In which April is a bit of a grump about the cold, but also kinda glees and plays about in the snow. And also makes food.

[Floor 13]
[With how cold it was getting lately, April really needed to have something more warm to wear. Her trenchcoat was good at keeping her warm most of the time, but she definitely needed more than that. Which is why she's sitting in the workshop and attempting to make a scarf. Except she isn't too good with a needle, due to how she keeps stabbing herself.]

Ow! Ugh, dammit... Stupid cold... [Doesn't stop her from continuing to try to make one though. Despite how she keeps stabbing herself with a needle.]

[Floor 32]
[April had only really wandered to this floor to get some food. But when she sees the snow falling, she really, really can't resist going to play around in it for a while. It never snowed back home, which is why she's gonna make the most of it now.

So anyone that ventures to this floor will find one April attempting to build a snowman. And failing a bit as she tries to keep it from falling over.]

[Floor 1]
[And once she does finally get around to hunting for food, she can later be found cooking in the cafeteria. It seems like she was able to catch an animal of some kind, since there's some meat cooking on top of the stove, and thanks to having stored some of it away a while ago, she's sipping on tea of some kind as she cooks. She's glad that they can have hot water, at least. And right now, having some kind of hot food sounds good too. And April would be happy to share, if anyone asks.]

Thank you. I didn't know scarves had pockets. [Hiroko's didn't, although they were ridiculously long.]

They usually don't, but someone who was helping me earlier told me how to do it, so I gave it a try. It's a good way to keep your hands warm too, at least.

It's a good idea. I should suggest it to Hiroko if - when I ever see her, she likes scarves.

... Hiroko? Ah, is she a friend from home?

[Aleph awkwardly looks down and doesn't answer this question.]

[April blinks and her expression quickly turns apologetic.] O-oh, um, I-I'm sorry, I probably shouldn't pry...

No, it's fine. I just don't know how to talk about her.

[Mostly with you, because talking about her would involve the 'mother' thing.]

... Um, if you don't mind me asking, why?

Well, she's... also my mother? And I know you don't want to hear about that.

O-oh, oh... [She rubs her forehead, her expression becoming guilty again.] It's... okay, if you want to talk about her. I'll admit, I kinda snapped before since I get a bit, well, jealous of people who get along with their parents, since my relationship with mine is crap...

... But now, I would be okay with hearing about that. [Since she's trying to get better about the parents thing.]

...For me, it's sort of an awkward situation. I didn't know she was my mother when I met her, since I have amnesia and she only saw me when I was a baby.

I think of her more as my friend than my parent. It's hard to know what it'd be like with someone who actually raised me.

Mm, that makes sense. And I guess it might be the same for her too, since she didn't know who you were when you met. But still, at least you guys are friends, so that's good.

I wish she was here.

[Her expression turns sympathetic and she gives a faint nod.] ... You never know, since the tower can bring in anyone. And even if she isn't brought here, you'll be able to see her again when we get home.

I know. She'll probably have been managing fine without me and Louis, she's strong.

Then at least you know she'll be okay, so you don't have to worry.

I won't. [He seems a little cheerier now.]

That's good! [A small smile and she tilts her head again.] ... And you seem to be in a bit of a better mood now.

Well, it's a very nice scarf. [He tugs at it again.]

Ehe, I'm glad you think so. It took a few attempts... [She sheepishly motions to her one hand which has a few bandages along her fingers.] Luckily I had some help, so the final result wasn't too bad.

I should learn how to make one, too. You don't look so warm yourself.

Hm? Ah, nah, I'm fine. I don't like the cold, but I'm kinda used to it.

Still, something warm for you wouldn't be bad, would it?

Um, w-well, no... But, ah, you don't have to make anything for me.

But I'd like to. Don't worry about it.
