Setting: Floors 1-6

Summary: After what happened here, Catarina is taking her guilt and anger out on monsters and anything in her path
Warnings: Gore, usual succubus shenanigans

[It started fairly innocently. The first floor was as clean as it usually was, until the stairs were encountered. Once there, it was obvious someone had fought a monster and had a few aggression issues to take out. It was a bloody affair with bits and pieces scattered in quite a few places, but other than that, it wasn't that bad.]

[The following floors had worse. It looked like someone had started to go out of their way to find monsters, the aggression becoming worse and worse. As the carnage started to get worse, there started to be the sound of a woman laughing maniacally. Close to the sixth floor was the source, one Catarina Amanto covered in blood, guts, and possibly little else, knife in her hand and eyes wild. She was laughing still, looking around for her next victim.]

A king must have a queen.

Or so I was told by my counsel that knew I was female born. It was to maintain the appearance that I was male, to keep the people's faith in me by following societal norms as much as I was possible. I was even required to have an heir, though I never recognized my son as my legitimate heir.

There are many requirements a king must obey if he is to be a good king. Though I did not truly love Guinevere as a husband is to love a wife as it was a marriage of arrangement, I did care greatly for her. She suffered a great burden by being my queen, knowing the truth of my gender.

Humans have many traditions and views that make little sense.

If the truth of your birth was to be revealed in your world, you as well would have been seen low as well... [Catarina reached a hand up, touching Saber's face] Did you love her as a woman?

I loved her as much as I could knowing her heart belonged to another. I was grateful for that as he could ease the burden I placed upon her, able to love her as a man is to love a woman and bring her proper pleasure.

She and I presented ourselves as was necessary in public, but I never took her to bed. I fathered my son out of treachery. [yes, fathered] If you wonder why I was able to resist your manipulations initially, it is because I had fallen to such wiles before by one far more fiendish than you could ever be. [Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me was the saying...]

[Remind her to tell you about how demons can reproduce sometime...]

I see. It's a bit sad to hear that one already ruined your feelings in such a way. It certainly would have made things easier for me... though I suppose I would not have heard so much about you if that had been true.

[As long as they didn't involve ancient magics from a cracked old man (Merlin) giving women temporary working male parts, all will be well.]

That is true. Perhaps you will find the wait well worth it.

I do hope so. I am aware I've said this before, but the little tastes are so tantalizing.

I have been told by another here that I apparently like playing 'hard to get' too much. I am not sure that is accurate.

It's not... entirely unwelcome. [Awkward Catarina is awkward]

[Saber came to a sudden stop when Catarina named her room. That was Irisviel's room...]

[She then started moving again.]

Is there something the matter, Arturia? [Her voice was quiet, having picked up on that her true name was perhaps something to keep between them]

[She does appreciate the quiet use of her name. It is important to not let that get out to her enemies...]

Nothing is wrong. I did not realize you resided in the same room as my Lady.

The queen you spoke of? [Her eyes closed briefly, bloodied face closed in thought]

... she's lovely. I have quite the time not offering my services to her. I assume you would appreciate it if I don't, though you know I will at least try.

She is not my queen; Guinevere is not longer alive. Irisviel is my Lady and I her knight, one I chose to serve and protect during a recent war we were involved in, during my second existence before I became as I am now. And one I choose to continue protecting.

[If Catarina is paying attention, she may pick up there is more to it than just Saber's words. There is a unique softness to the king's words when she speaks of Irisviel.]

And you are welcome to try, but Irisviel is will have no part of it, though she may fluster. She is... very pure. [And Saber is fallen, corrupted, dark, tainted... Unworthy of her, the king would say.]

[Catarina looked up at Saber. She wasn't stupid, and she was quite good at reading people. She usually preferred to ignore it or to play it up to truly make the other party uncomfortable, however, this time...]

[She leaned her head against the other woman, quiet.]

[This is definitely a quiet elevator ride. Saber remains silent as she exits onto the dorm floor and heads to the correct room.]

[Her voice was soft]

Why?

[Pausing outside the door, Saber looked down.]<

Why what?

Do you feel the way you do about her?

That is a complicated question I am unsure I can answer coherently. The ways of the human heart do not make much sense to even those that possess one.

Hm. [Catarina fell quiet at that, thinking]

... she is lovely, though.

She is indeed. Hair like the freshly fallen snow... [Saber sighs.] And yet she does not see beyond the shadow or her deceased husband.

[Only Saber could get cockblocked by a dead man. The king seems destined to be lonely.]

...forgive me. I spoke more than I should have.

I didn't stop listening, did I? I hadn't realized you feel so for another.

And I had not thought I would ever get a 'second chance', you could say, with her. She did not survive the war. [Due to Saber's failings.]

...it is unrequited, Catarina. Another burden I must live with.
