☆ 002 : WARM-UP ☆ "All of us contain Music & Truth, but most of us can't get it out."
Characters: Rise Kujikawa and YOU!
Setting: Floor Twenty-Eight, the Music Room, or prettymuch anywhere else you want.
Format: Prose and Action both A-OK; you pick and I'll follow your lead!
Summary: Rise does her best to get in a little vocal practise for the (possible) upcoming Gas Chamber, Tower Edition show. Make a song request, pick up an instrument and join in, just listen...that part's all up to you. :]
Warnings: Event-related things, perhaps...or maybe she just has the regular flu. :3 Otherwise nothing.
Rise stood behind the electronic keyboard, shoulders relaxed, arms by her sides. Breathing in slowly, she hummed a low note (try to find the note where you feel maximum vibration in your lower abdomen) as she exhaled, one hand pressed to her midriff. After repeating that a few times, she shivered and huffed out a sigh instead, breaking the rhythm. But well, at least it was easy to make sure she was doing her breathing exercises right, since thanks to the cold, she could see every breath that left her mouth.
The cold did make it pretty hard to play the piano well, though--not that she was AMAZING at it even under normal conditions, but she was far from terrible, on the upper side of average at the very least. A singer who couldn't read music at all or play an instrument at least a little would be an embarrassment to her agency, and Rise was a quick study anyways.
After rubbing some circulation back into her fingers, she got to work on playing--and singing--some scales.
(It's nothing too interesting at first, but if you wait for a while, she might start practising an actual song or two...or maybe not. She might just start coughing instead...)

Rise put the cloak on right away, though she paused in fastening it as the other girl sneezed. Rise reeeeally didn't want to get sick, and if this girl had been sneezing all over this cloak while making it...but she couldn't not wear it either, because that would be really rude, especially since this girl had gone that much out of her way when she didn't even know her.
Of course, that part of the problem could be fixed easily enough.
"Thanks again, and sorry for the trouble," Rise said once she finished fastening the cloak securely around her neck. "My name's Rise, by the way--Rise Kujikawa!"

Tohko shook her head, to both clear her thoughts and to deny a part of what Rise said. "Oh, this wasn't any trouble! And it's nice to meet you, Rise. I'm Tohko Amano, the book girl!"
Tohko's legs were staring to feel a little wobbly, so she managed to sit on one of the tables. She put her notebook and pen next to her.
no subject
"Nice to meet you, too, Tohko-san! I really do appreciate you making this for me. But, umm...if you don't mind my asking, what's a book girl? Does it mean you like reading a lot or something? Or..." Rise glanced at the notebook and pen beside Tohko, then back up at the girl "...maybe you're a writer?"
no subject
"Oh, again, you're welcome! I'm happy that I could help..and 'the book girl' is my title! There's no one else out there that loves books or knows as much about them as I do!" Normally, Tohko would have started gushing at this point, but when Rise suggested that she was a writer, she sighed, reminded of why she came up here today.
"..However, I have discovered that writing stories for friends is pretty fun. I don't write much though..I've only written two small stories outside of school."
no subject
That was a thought--writing something of her own might be a good way to pass some time here in the Tower. She could read music, so writing it couldn't be that much harder, right? And if she had any trouble with it, maybe she could get someone else from the band to help her out a little. She wasn't sure, but somehow she thought that it might feel really good to sing something that she'd actually written herself instead of just singing whatever she was given.
no subject
Tohko then chuckled nervously and handed Rise her notebook and pen. "If you want to try writing a song, you can use this. Just don't look on the back page, alright?" That was where Tohko was trying to write a love song of her own. To be honest..she was starting to think that just a letter might be better.
no subject
Rise blinked a little at the notebook and pen that had been pressed into her hands, then gave Tohko a sheepish little smile. "Oh...well, I dunno if I could come up with anything good just like that! I've never done something like this before, so... I'll probably have to think it over for a little while first, to figure out what I really want to write about. Thanks for the offer, though."
She started to hand both pen and notebook back, then pulled it back slightly, giving the other girl a lightly teasing smile.
"Soooo...what's on that back page, huh? A secret diary? A looove letter~?"
Rise had a huge soft spot for Romantic Things In General, and truth be told she thought about that sort of stuff an awful lot, but right now she was only joking. She had no idea how close to the mark she really was.
no subject
"Ah, alright then. Hopefully you can think about something to write about soon. If you do, let me take a look at it, alright?"
And Tohko, who was about to take back the notebook before Rise pulled it away, blushed bright red.
"H-how did you know?! Are you telepathic or something?!"
no subject
"What, really? No way!" She gave a startled double-blink at Tohko's reaction, then smiled wider than ever, completely and utterly thrilled. She eagerly glanced down at the closed cover of the notebook, but made no move to turn to the last page just yet; love could be a very delicate thing, if the other girl reeeeally wanted it to be private (or maybe for that special someone's eyes only~?), Rise would respect that. (
...For now, anyways. Once your Social Link ranks up a few times, the trolling will begin in earnest.)"I'm not telepathic at all--it was just a guess, actually." And not at all a serious one, but Rise didn't mention that particular fact. "Hmm, I wonder how I knew? A girl in love must just have a certain glow to her!"
She gave Tohko a smile that was half encouraging, and half impish. "So what's so secret about it? And ooh, who's it for?" She probably wouldn't know whoever it was, since she'd been keeping to herself a little more ever since she'd arrived here, but there was still a chance that maybe she'd know them. And if not, after this she'd definitely have to change that.
no subject
"Ah..I see. It was a pretty good guess.." And Tohko chuckled and scratched her head at that last comment. "I don't know about that..but I suppose it is hard to hide these things from everyone."
Tohko sighed again at that smile, but she managed to return one that had a mixture of happiness and sadness on it.
"Well..it's secret because I didn't want anyone to blab to the person I was thinking about giving it to. It's best that this is handled between the two people involved. If he found out early from a third party, it would just make it more awkward and painful for him." Or, at least, so she thought.
Tohko then sighed again. "It's for Enoch..but I'm not sure if I should hand it to him. I doubt he'd throw away the letter, and I wouldn't mind if he rejected me, but if he accepted it..the eventual parting would be pretty painful. I wouldn't want to hurt him."
She then sighed again. "You can look if you want, now that you know."
...I am so sorry, I am so fail. orz
"It was a lucky guess!" Rise corrected her with a slightly sheepish grin, then held out the notebook, giving it back to Tohko without opening it, most of her previous teasing manner gone. "Here. Something like this is really private, between just you and him, so I won't read it. And I don't know Enoch-san, but I promise not to say anything to him about this if I run into him, okay?"
The rest of what the book girl had said was a little perplexing, and Rise frowned slightly as she considered it. "...So...you're afraid to tell him how you feel because you're from different worlds, and if he does return your feelings, and we all somehow find a way back to our homes..." The former idol shook her head slowly. "But...it should be his choice, too, shouldn't it? Not telling him how you feel just for his own sake might only hurt him more in the end."
She looked down, her smile a little wistful as she thought about how she'd felt watching Senpai's train disappearing down the tracks, taking him back to the city, away from them all, not knowing for sure when she'd see him again. "...I mean, there's always a risk of getting hurt when you decide to love someone, and sometimes you can't be right there with them all the time even though you might want to be more than anything. But...if you really care about him, I think it's something that's definitely worth taking that sort of risk for."
Rise suddenly shivered and blinked, her sheepish grin from before coming back full-force.
"...Geez, sorry for talking so much! Especially when I don't really know the situation that well..."
But even so, Rise was pretty sure her vote would still go for telling this guy, whoever he was. It never hurt to try, after all, and to her way of thinking, not knowing would be worse than being turned down...though she could also understand the alternative way of thinking: that so long as nothing was said and the question wasn't asked outright, there was still hope that the other person might have feelings for you.
It's alright! Don't worry about it!
Tohko sighed and scratched her head.
"Well, I suppose the fact that we're from different worlds does play a small part in it, but we will eventually have to part. I'll die, the relationship will sputter out, there are a lot of factors that go into it, but the end result will be the same. Since he's immortal, that'll be the way it'll end. But..you might be right. If I didn't tell him, the parting will still hurt. I may soften the blow, but it'll still hurt."
Tohko smiled a little bit as Rise continued speaking.
"Oh, I don't mind if I get hurt. I'm expecting that. I'm prepared for that. I'm more worried about him getting hurt. He's already experienced so many meetings and partings that have scarred him. I wouldn't want to add to those scars..if that makes any sense. But..you're probably right. Even if I add to those scars, it would probably hurt more if I let these words die on the page and in my throat. I'm planning on giving him the letter..I'm just having some second thoughts every now and then, you know?"
Tohko chuckled and shook her head as Rise apologized.
"Ah, no, it's alright! This is a lot of help..but it sounds like you've been in a similar situation yourself somewhere."
...TY... ;_;
"Yeah...I guess that would be pretty hard. People don't really think about having to watch all their friends die and everything they know change and fall apart when they wish they could live forever."
Her smile, which had grown sad at the thought of that sort of eternal loneliness, brightened a bit. "And confessing can be pretty scary...but I think you're right, too. About giving him the letter, I mean." This really wasn't her business, and maybe it wasn't her place to say any of this, but Tohko hadn't seemed to mind so far, so Rise kept going. "I think...just because it won't last forever, doesn't mean it isn't still important, or precious. In fact, that might make it even more special."
She ducked her head a little when Tohko asked about her own experience, because...it was kinda embarrassing, somehow, because of how deep and personal the feelings involved were. But Tohko had been pretty forthcoming with her, so Rise owed her the same in return. Besides, she seemed like a nice enough girl--maybe even a new friend!
"Weeeeell, my situation isn't exactly the same...he and I from the same world, after all, and we actually started dating before we even came here. But...he was only staying in Inaba, the town where we met, for a year. And if I made it back into showbiz like I hoped, I'd be leaving, too, and constantly traveling all over the place just like before. So when he left Inaba, we didn't know for sure when we'd get to see each other again..."
Or maybe even if they'd get to see each other again. Things could always happen--his parents moved around so much, they might leave the country again and take him too, next time--and her schedule had always been packed, with little to no real free time or vacation days. Plus, long-distance relationships were really tough, especially when idols technically weren't supposed to even have boyfriends. Still, at least they'd have roughly the same lifespan, and were from the same place. All in all, they were still pretty lucky.
You're welcome! <3
"For some reason, most people don't think about that. Plus..you see new things and meet new people, all of which you'll eventually have to say goodbye to. It's an endless cycle of happiness and sadness with no way out."
Tohko noticed how sad she looked and was going to comment on it, but when Rise brightened up, she decided not to and merely returned the smile.
"It is a little nerve-wrecking..but I think I can handle it. And..you're probably right about short meetings being all the more precious. After all, The Aviator only knew The Prince for a few days, but they became the best of friends and never forgot each other."
When Rise ducked her head down, Tohko couldn't help herself. She had been doing it a lot to younger kids when they did it and needed comfort, so she patted Rise on the head as well.
"Well, maybe his travel plans will change and he'll stay in Inaba a little longer, or you guys will be able to communicate through letters, phone calls, or pigeon mail. And even though your schedule may get a bit busy, I'm sure you'll have a few days every now and then when you can meet up, even if you move far apart. I'm sure it'll work out for you two somehow."
:] <3
Rise blinked curiously at the mention of..."The Aviator and The Prince? Who are they?" Her smile widened, her tone getting a little bit eagerly impish as the remembered Tohko's title: the book girl. "Sounds like some kinda story..."
She blinked again at the head-patting, but she could be pretty physically affectionate herself, so she didn't shy away. "Well, after he left, I knew that I could call or text him pretty much whenever, but...I didn't want to overwhelm him, or annoy him. And I knew that he really cared about me, so it would probably be okay, but...it's still just hard, not being able to be with the person in real life! But..."
Colour flooded her cheeks, though it was clearly a happy warmth, and embarrassing or not, Rise didn't care if Tohko saw her blushing like this.
"...But I really love him, and I'll never give up on him! I'd wait for him forever. So even if it's hard, I'll do everything I possibly can to make it work." ...At least, as long as Yu wanted it to work, and wanted to be with her, too.
:3 <3
She didn't know the full story, since Enoch hadn't finished telling her yet, but she could guess..a little, even though she wasn't sure if those guesses were accurate or not. "..Does the goddess in your world have a few immortal friends?"
When Rise asked about The Aviator and The Prince, Tohko grinned. Another person who needed to read The Little Prince. "It is! The Aviator and The Prince are the two main characters in a story called The Little Prince. It's wonderful story that's like drinking a glass of water in the middle of a hopeless desert. There is a bit of salt on the bottom of the glass, but it's good!"
Tohko chuckled as she tried to not burst into rambling about the story and stay focused on the discussion.
"Well, if he loves you as much as you do him, he probably won't mind if you call him or text him a lot. And even if it's hard to meet up with him occasionally, as long as you can meet up, you'll be alright! And if you feel that way for him and be willing to wait that long, then I'd say you'll be alright! Everything will work out for the two of you, I'm sure of it!"
While Tohko didn't comment on it, Rise looked adorable when she blushed, and Tohko wondered-just for a moment-if Rei wouldn't mind if Tohko added her to their matchmaking committee.
no subject
She gave a thoughtful hum at Tohko's question about the goddess, because the other girl had known about phones, so...maybe she came from another version of modern-day Japan, or at least 'Earth'. If so, she might very well know of the goddess that Rise had been talking about.
"It's a liiiittle more complicated than that. Do you know the story of the goddess Izanami? I mean, does that tale exist in your world?" Since the other girl had claimed to love stories so much, Rise would bet that if it did, Tohko would know about it, at least vaguely or in passing if nothing else.
...Salt in the bottom of a glass of water? Even if she was stuck in the middle of a desert, that didn't sound so good to Rise. "...Oh? What about that story makes it so wonderful?"
She wasn't all that much of a reader herself--at least, she hadn't been. She just hadn't had the time when she was an idol, and there were so many other things she'd wanted to do once she wasn't one any more. She'd read a ton of manga, but she wasn't sure that really counted. Yu-senpai did a lot of reading, though, if all the books he'd had in his room back in Inaba were any indication of that kind of thing.
...And thinking of Yu's room made her think of...well, maaaaybe she shouldn't be thinking about that right now, heh."Yeah, I couldn't resist texting him some, though I tried to hold myself back at least a little. Actually, he'd only been gone for a little more than a week when I ended up here. Although...he said he'd been here for months already! Argh, this place is so weird!"
As if to punctuate that point, Rise dissolved into a sudden coughing fit that, once it passed, left her shuddering and clutching the cloak Tohko had made for her more tightly around her. Ugh, maybe the scratchy throat and general ache-y feeling had been more serious than she'd thought...

At the mention of Izanami, Tohko nodded her head. "Of course I know about Izanami! So, that's the goddess that's stuck in the Tower? Is she different in your world compared to the stories?"
Tohko chuckled when Rise asked what made The Little Prince so wonderful. "Like a glass full of water, it revitalizes you and makes you realize what's truly important in the world. It wakes you up and gives you hope, if you're low on it. It's sweet..but pretty salty as well."
Tohko grew up with, lived, and ate books, so she knew most of them pretty well. Tohko nodded in agreement with Rise. "This Tower is pretty weird. The Administrators seem to have the power to pull people from different points of time and alternate universes..it's a shame that they don't care about who has to deal with that."
Tohko sighed for a moment before Rise started coughing again. "Hey, are you alright? Want me to grab some cough syrup?!"
no subject
"She's..."
How to describe Izanami, really? Yu would probably have a much better answer to this question, but she'd do her best.
"She's mostly the same, but a little different, I guess? For some reason, she decided to take a more active role in our world, and fulfill humanity's 'true desire'. To figure out what that was, she awakened a special power in certain people... It's kind of a long story, and it'll probably be a little confusing, but I can tell you about it if you really want to know."
And speaking of stories...
Rise still thought the glass of water analogy was a little odd, but she could understand the idea of something being good but bittersweet. Plenty of love stories were like that, after all. "If it's really that good, maybe I'll have to check it out for myself sometime."
It took her a second to catch her breath after that coughing fit, but she did her best to smile and wave away the other girl's concern. "N...no, I don't think that'll do much good..." Supposing the people on the infirmary floor would even give them cough syrup, which Rise wasn't so sure about. "Thanks though. But I think I'll just go straight back to bed once I finish practising." Getting more rest couldn't hurt, right?
no subject
"I see..she's a little different than in the stories, but that's not a bad thing. What sort of power? And don't worry! I like listening to stories. If you want to tell me, I'd be more than happy to hear it!"
Reading stories was the only thing that was better than listening to them. Tohko smiled and nodded. "It is! You should read it sometime. It'll warm your heart and make you cry buckets at the same time."
As Rise refused help, Tohko sighed. "Alright then..do you mind if I stay here while you practice? I could finish writing this..and it would be nice to hear what you sounded like!"
...//further abuses the fact that her character has such a prolific seiyuu |3
"...I don't mind telling you, but...maybe we should take a rain cheque on that for today?" It really was a long story, and between the coughing, her already-sore throat, and how all-around tired she was lately, Rise wasn't sure she could manage it right now. "I promise I'll tell you all about it, though! It's just, right now..."
She pressed a hand to her chest with a rueful smile, then added, "And I'll definitely look for that story you mentioned in the library first chance I get."
As for Tohko staying to listen to her practise... Well, she was here, and sick and coughing or not, she'd see this practise session through--especially now that she had an audience!
"Sure!" she said, brighter and more alert at the idea of performing for someone. "I'm mostly done with the boring stuff anyway, so I'll go ahead and sing an actual song for you!" She thought for a minute, going over her repertoire of songs before nodding to herself with a smile, and performing a piano-only version of this song. She does quite well too, managing it without a single hitch or even the hint of a cough.
Well, if it's out there, why not use it? ^^
While Tohko loved stories, she'd hate it if Rise's throat grew worse because she was telling her one. She could wait for it later. Tohko then smiled. "Alright then! Let me know what you think of it when you're finished, alright?"
When Rise said that she was going to sing an actual song, Tohko looked a bit..puzzled, but happy. She wasn't quite expecting that, but it was alright. "Alright then! Good luck!"
As Rise sang, Tohko wrote a love letter, and when she was finished, she clapped her hands lightly to the beat. When she was finished, Tohko clapped and applauded her.
"That was amazing, Rise! You're pretty good!"
Exactly! :D
"Yeah, I'll definitely let you know!" That was, supposing she could find the book in the sprawling, confusing mess that was the Library Floor...
Listening to someone sing scales and stuff like that just wasn't all that interesting, and Rise would much rather sing something that the person listening to her would enjoy; thus, her choice to sing an actual song!
Rise beamed at the praise, tucking her hands inside the cloak and sitting down on the piano bench behind her--much as she hated to admit it, she needed a break after a performance like that. "Thanks! But if you think that's good, you should've seen how I used to be. I took a pretty long break from my singing career back home, so I'm still a little rusty right now, but I'm getting back to where I was before. With another month or two of hard work, I'll be ready for anything again, maybe even better than ever!"
Sitting up a little straighter, Rise peered towards the notebook in Tohko's hands with an eager little smile. "Sooo...how'd it go with writing your letter? And how are you gonna give it to him? Are you gonna do it right now, or wait until Christmas Eve?"
Yup!~ ^^
Tohko smiled at that. Hopefully, this person did manage to read it. More people needed hope in this Tower, and The Little Prince could provide it. And, if Rise had trouble finding it, Tohko wasn't just the book girl-she was also a librarian. She could help.
Tohko's smile just grew when she heard Rise talk about her singing career. "That's amazing! I'm sure you'll be up to speed in no time! Hey, there's a guy around here named Yosuke who isn't that bad on the guitar. Maybe you two can hold a concert or something!"
And when Rise mentioned the letter, she chuckled nervously, and her face went a bit red. "Well..I finished it. And I'm planning on giving it to him as a Christmas present. I may have to give it earlier though, if things get worse as the month drags on."
She'd also have to explain what Christmas was to Enoch. But that was neither here nor there. Tohko held the notebook out to Rise.
"If you want, you can read it, since you already know about it. "
...Aww, that letter... <3
And yeah, if she had trouble finding the book, she'd just ask Tohko about it. Or Senpai, he knew plenty about books too, and could usually do just about anything he really set his mind to.
Rise blinked at the concert suggestion, though that wasn't the part of Tohko's comment that really caught her interest. "Yosuke... Do you mean Yosuke Hanamura?"
She blinked again when Tohko held out the notebook, then had to rein in her sudden eagerness. "Ooh, I'd love to! But...are you really sure you want me to?"
I guess it's a bad time to mention that her mun and I know that she'll be rejected, huh?
......Aww... ;_; Poor thing...
It is a little sad..but she's kind of expecting it, so she'll be alright. I think.
...Enoch might still get an earful from Rise should they ever meet. |D
While Tohko would like that, it would make their relationship all the more awkward. I approve!
...In that case, they're just gonna have to meet at some point, aren't they. >B]
That they shall!..For better or worse..xD;;
