Silent dormitory rooms are lined with bodies--not dead, just sleeping. Throughout the tower it is pitch black and silent. At the base of the tower, countless shining eyes, watching.

The tower hums to life. Lights blink on in one by one; only the dormitory rooms remain dark. A small army of blank-faced humanoids appear and spend the next ten minutes taking various positions around the tower.

"Superheroes are awesome," America said. "Why, does your America not like 'em? That'd be boring."

"I've never thought to ask her opinion on them to be quite honest." Canada laughed and tilted her head, "So you're a comic nerd huh?"

"Hey, comics are awesome, and they're totally getting made into movies lately," America said, just a touch defensively.

"I am aware." She giggled and ruffled his hair, "You're cute, I wouldn't have imagined the male version as a geek. You don't look like a geek."

America swatted her lightly, pouting. "I'm not a geek! I'm the farthest thing from a geek, I just know what's cool."

"Okay so you're a nerd then. I can deal with that."

"I'm not! You're way worse than my Canada."

"Oh I find that hard to believe. We're both Canada right?"

"You're still worse."

"You know they say the female is the more dangerous one of any species. It comes with being treated like I didn't know what I was talking about because of my gender. Like I didn't go to war."

Canada shrugged and glanced up at him, "You don't have to deal with me if I'm that bad."

"Well you're still Canada," America said, dismissing her later concern with a vague handwave. "And if you're the country who would it matter if you were a girl? I mean, there are girl countries. Not a lot of them, but still."

"You act like men don't treat girls like fragile flowers. I mean, sure I had quite a few leaders who treated me equally but just as many who dismissed me. I don't think men understand."

"But you're still Canada. I mean--" He pauses, trying to think of which nations were girls. He can only come up with a few. "Like, Belarus doesn't seem to care."

Canada tilted her head, she didn't really see the point of pointing out who she was with every reply, but if it helped him thing, whatever.

"It may be the case, but...Every one of us is different."

Not only was it helping him think, it was helping America get used to the idea. Canada as a girl was still a kind of weird thing, even if it did happen in comic books. Actually, probably it was weirder that it happened in comic books, because those were silly. Fiction was fiction and reality was reality, and while he was sure this was some version of Canada, if this was some sort of alternate universe thing, it was really weird and didn't mean good things when it came to that letter.

But comics being real would be pretty cool!

"I guess. It'd be stupid if they didn't let you do country stuff, though."

"They let me, I just had to stand up to them. Probably why you think I'm 'worse' than your Canada. I had to be to get anyone to listen."

Canada shrugged sheepishly and turned to the windows again, "I doubt it matters if the letters are true. If they aren't...then they have methods of capturing us from different worlds...and that's just as scary really."

"It definitely matters if the letters are true!" America said, suddenly serious. "That matters way more than anything else! But it's definitely not true because there's no way."

"I suppose we have to wait for our captors to appear, right? Until then it seems futile."

"No way, we should go find them ourselves! You can be my backup."

". . ."

She regarded him with the most skeptical look.

"Your backup."

"Yeah! Since I'm the hero! You can be the first backup," he offered, very generously.

"I think I shall pass."

"Why not? That's like, second billing! ...Well, I guess the love interest would get that, so third billing. That's still really good!"

"Third billing. You make it sound so thrilling. Can't it be a buddy movie,then I can get second billing."

America considered this, apparently seriously. "Well, I guess so. As long as we're still beating up the bad guys."
