Setting: The media room (floor 14) December 31st-January 1st and the halls/room 1-16 on January 1st
Format: Starting action but I can match if you want some intense video gaming prose
Summary: It's not like Waver likes video games or anything. Don't get the wrong idea.

Floor 14, December 31st

[Waver headed down to the media room in the afternoon, planning to pick out a video game to play for a few hours, just until dark, so he could get back to his room without running into any monsters. Of course, he quickly gets caught up in it and forgets to look at the time.  He had an important campaign going, so he couldn't just stop in the middle of it!  By the time he realises it, it's already well over the time he had to leave in order to avoid the monsters.  ...So there's nothing wrong with playing for a little while longer, it makes no difference by now. It's better than going to sit in his room.

He probably needs to stop playing games of conquest, though. He doesn't want to be caught at all, but it will look especially bad if he's seen with that kind of game. After a little while he slinks off to look at the other games. Maybe an RPG, or an FPS...he hates that he's coming to learn these terms, but, there's really nothing else to do in the tower, so...!! As long as no one finds out, he's good.

Oh yeah, he's still wearing that Christmas sweater he got. There's a teddybear on it.]

Floor 14, January 1st

[Eventually he falls asleep, controller in hand, and within a few minutes, in big red letters, 'GAME OVER' flashes on the screen. He'll be upset once he realises, possibly more as someone sleeping outside their room is a pretty easy target for all kinds of pranks and such...]

Halls or room 1-16, January 1st

[Once he does wake up and realise he's been in the media room all night, Waver quickly hurries back to his own room, desperately hoping he doesn't run into anyone he knows and have to explain himself, since it's pretty early for him to be up for the day already.  And once he gets back to his room, it's a quick dash into bed. You'd think he was doing something illegal with all that desperation for secrecy.]

[ He doesn't actually answer that question; apparently he thinks it should be obvious. ]

You can't judge someone just based on the way they look!

You should relax. I'm not judging you on your height, or something like that.

[ The smirk doesn't go away. ]

I'm judging you based on the fact that you fell asleep playing video games in a tower full of monsters.

[But he always assumes people are looking down on him for his height. (badum tsch)]

Everyone makes mistakes...! But nothing came of it, so it's nothing to worry about. If I came across any, they would be cowering in fear of me!

Yeah...? You still haven't given me much of an argument for that.

It's not like I can prove it without it happening.

You can't even explain how you'd do it? Some fighter you are. What are you, a Berserker?

I'm not a fighter, there's a difference. I'm a magus. So obviously I'll do it with magecraft.

[swordedpast]

[ Surprise passes across Archer's face for a moment. He was only joking with the Berserker comment, not expecting this kid to get what he meant--but is he really from the same world...? ]

Magi are fighters too, kid. They just do it a different way. If you don't understand that, you wouldn't make it two feet out there against the monsters.

[The truth is he knows he's not going to get very far against the monsters, but if it sounds like he's being underestimated, there's just no way Waver can back down.]

Obviously I know that! But it's not on the level of a berserker at all.

...Wait, you know about magi?

[He had assumed the Berserker comment was, well, not capitalised, a berserker fighter in general. Chalk it up to the video games.
But now that he thinks about it, he can feel that magic presence - which, he'll tell himself he didn't notice because he just woke up.]

'Berserker'-- so then you're a Servant. They're everywhere...

Yes, we're quite an infestation in this tower.

[ Not just a magus, but a Master, if he knows about Servants. Archer regards him with interest. ]

I guess you don't have yours here, if you're putting off going through the halls.

He's here! But it's not like I need him around all the time to look after me! I don't know about your Master, but as I've said, I can get along just fine.

[haha...ha...he knows that's so not true. Where's Rider when he needs him - but he also can't let him know about the games...]

How lucky for you. Well, not lucky for you at the moment. He might as well be in another world, for all the good he'll do you now.

I don't need him anyway, the war isn't going on here. I don't need someone to protect me all day.

[swordedpast]

Are you certain the war is the only threat? Hmm. I could choose to kill you now, just in case you might threaten my Master if it starts up again.

[ He doesn't sound very serious, but there's still a gleam of danger in his eyes. ]

It might not last, but it'd leave an impression.

[nonacquiescent]

Yeah, you could do that. Or it could be entirely pointless.

[He holds up his right hand to show Archer the distinct lack of any Command Seals.]

Besides, I'm not from the same war, I've seen every Servant in mine, and you look nothing like them.

[swordedpast]

[ A condescending chuckle. He's good at those. ]

Ask some of the other Servants and Masters if they care. If something like the Grail appears here, they will fight for it no matter who their enemies are.

[ But he relaxes. ]

Fortunately, I disagree with them. We have bigger concerns here.

Uh huh, and if the Grail appeared here, I wouldn't hold any right to it. Rider might be here, but we already lost, I'm not really a Master anymore.

[At least that last statement from Archer is appreciated - though he has to wonder if there was any reason for the entire discussion then.]

[ The reason for the discussion? Making Waver's life difficult, obviously. From one tsundere to another. ]

You'd let that stop you? You're different from some Masters, then. You don't have much spine.

[Rude, Archer?!]

What?! I do so! Someone who isn't a Master or Servant can't win the Grail, right?!

... [He sighs, giving in a bit.] I don't want it anyway, I have nothing to wish for. I don't think Rider does either, not as long as we're here. If he wanted to, fine, I guess, but I don't see that happening.

That's a lie.

[ He says this in a matter-of-fact manner, with only the most casual of judgments. ]

The Grail wouldn't have chosen you in the first place if you didn't have a wish, so why wouldn't you keep fighting for it as long as you live?

[nonacquiescent]

[Waver frowns, another sigh escaping him.]

I realised it was frivolous, and I shouldn't have entered the war. ...That's all.

[swordedpast]

Is that so...?

[ And his next words are just as casual. ]

Then you died, back in your world? I mean, people who abandon their course don't really live long in the Holy Grail War.

[ He might sound slightly bitter; it's to cover up the surprise that still shows a little in his eyes. ]
