Characters: Amberley Vail and You!
Setting: Cafeteria and the Library
Format: Actionspam
Summary: Amberley's poking around and trying to gather information, all while playing it as safe as possible.
Warnings: The thread with Tohko has gracious amounts of talk of murder and other grimdarkness that comes with the verse.

Cafeteria: [ Amberley's got a big plate of something unidentifiable in front of her and she is grossed out. Is this the kind of stuff that the Imperial Guard eats on a daily basis? Maybe her expensive lifestyle had caught up to her, but she hardly doubted she could stomach what was in front of her.

Then again, if she didn't eat at all, she would grow weak. In a new place, this was unthinkable. So very slowly, Amberley tries to make her way through the meal. ]

Library: [ What better way is there to gain knowledge than through reading? Amberley's draped on a chair with a huge stack of books, reading at a pretty good pace. Occasionally, she'll nod and hum to herself, but other than that, she's completely lost in her reading. ]

I suppose it's not agreeable to all, but I'm very loyal to the Emperor. Besides, it would take more than one person to stop a war of such a large scale.

[ This is a very polite way of Amberley trying to tell Tohko that she's overstepping her boundaries. Her voice sounds a bit harsher than it's normal bubbly tone as well. ]

It may take more than one person..but I'm sure quite a few people can stand up to the Emperor and tell him to stop the war and to stop killing people just because they don't agree with him. After all..while you're loyal to him, I don't think you're happy about a lot of death either, are you?

[ Amberley smiles, but that is not a friendly smile at all. She thinks about a lot of people above and under her in the Inquisition and in other branches of the Imperium that would kill someone on sight for that comment. Instead, she decides to take a nod from the person who easily means the most to her. ]

If a friend of mine were here, he would remind you that speaking that way is akin to signing your own death sentence. Other people from my universe would simply shoot you on sight. Not that death lasts here, but it still sounds like it should be avoided. Luckily, I'm not them, but if you meet anyone else from the 41st millenium I suggest that you be a bit more careful with what you say.

(ooc: I would of course, ask permission before injuring or killing your character! This is just an IC warning because everyone from her universe is a bigot in one way or another, orz.)

(ooc: Ah, it's fine! Don't worry about it! ^^; There are a lot of people here from terrible universes, and Tohko has met plenty of terrible people, so she knows what that's like..she's just incredibly stubborn. xD;)

So even speaking against him is worth being killed? But..that's pretty terrible. Why does the Emperor in your universe allow such things, and why do you go along with it? And..I think you mean the forty-first millennium in your universe. There are probably a couple of people from longer points in time that don't have the same things you do.

It's just the way it is. We don't have the right to question the Emperor.

Though, like I said, you should be more careful, life is a gift that shouldn't be wasted.

[ Amberley's really not open to arguing about it. She doesn't want to let in the warp, after all. ]

But..you have the right to question him if you think he's wrong, especially when it's hurting others.

And don't worry, I'll be careful..and it's because it's so important that the Emperor shouldn't just be killing off people simply for saying a few words against him.

[Tohko smiles at that.]

He isn't hurting others. The Emperor protects, however, other humans do not.

But if the Emperor is ordering people to kill others that don't agree with him and having them participate in a war that no one can remember why it started, then that's rather cruel of him. That's not protecting.

He isn't making them. I mean, if people really wish to, they can go off and join one of the chaos cults or become a xenos empathizer. But they're doing much more harm than the Imperium could ever do.

[ She makes the sign of the aquila while saying that because implying the Emperor would ever do wrong is borderline heresy. ]

But that wouldn't change the fact that he would still be ruling over everything with an iron fist. But..what are chaos cults and xenos? And how are they doing more harm?

[Tohko then watched Amberley make a weird hand gesture.]

And what was that hand gesture? A prayer of some kind?

Chaos cultists are people that have strayed from the Emperor. You probably know Xenos as aliens, and they do the same thing, they tempt people from the Emperor.

Which may not sound that bad to you, but the chaos cultists often preform witchcraft that requires human sacrifice. Also, all of them want to kill us.

[ Right now Amberley's playing up to Tohko's sympathies, since she's more or less got her number by now. ]

And that? Yes, I suppose you could call it a prayer.

That sounds pretty terrible too..but maybe you could convince them to stop killing people for their magic peacefully. And why do they want to kill you? And..who was it a prayer to?

If you saw them, you'd probably understand why they kill.

[ They're not exactly pretty looking, that's for sure. ]

Well, I don't think one's appearance is a good reason to kill others..but maybe if you told me how they look, I'd understand.

I was being sarcastic.

[ In a way, this girl reminded her of a young child. Not really a bad thing, but Amberley doesn't really get that kind of naivety. ]

Either way, let's hope that we never run into any of them here.

[Tohko sighed and scratched her head.]

I see..then what is the actual reason why they want to kill you? And, other than the murders, what's wrong with running into them here?

I don't know, because no one really understands them. Running into them here means that they'll probably just try to kill everyone in the tower, and I can't fight them.

[ Well, she probably could, but she's still playing up the whole squishy helpless remembrancer angle. ]

Well..that's kind of sad. Why doesn't anyone else understand them? And I don't know if they'll try to kill everyone upon arrival..but why can't you fight them?

[Tohko's not buying that angle.]

[ Amberley's betting that if Tohko actually met a huge chaos marine screaming "BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD" she'd run away and hide as fast as she could. ]

They're insane and cannot be reasoned with. Besides, I'm just a remembrancer. I can't fight.

[ Yeah, just look in her chest. It's nothing but weapons. ]

[It depends upon the situation and what's going on, to be honest.]

How are they insane? And..if you were part of the military, why weren't you trained? If you can't fight, there are a lot of people here who can teach you..but it seems weird that you were part of a war and a military and yet, were never trained.

Trust me, you don't want to know.

I should have clarified. I'm not part of the military, sometimes I work with them as a civilian so I can create better records. I've always been out of the line of fire.

[ These are all blatant lies. In reality she'd probably save Tohko's butt because she feels really sorry for her right now. In Amberley's mind, it's almost like the poor girl's painted a target right on her chest. ]

[Tohko sighed.]

If I'm asking, I do want to know. You don't have to worry about whether or not I can handle it: I've been through quite a bit in this Tower, and even if the answer is painful or weird, I still want to know it.

..I don't think the military type you described would easily let untrained civilians into their line of work, even if you did try to stay out of the action.

[Tohko is a book girl. She's read quite a few tales about dystopian governments and the like, and this sort of profile sounds a bit weird when placed with those stories.]

Well, the Chaos Marines, for instance, run at you blindly and yell chants of bloodlust while rushing at you with a weapon. It's either run, or attack. Stopping to talk would leave you dead.

And I understand your confusion! I apologize for that. I get my information about enemies from a secondhand source, Ciaphas Cain. He's widely known as a Hero among the Imperium and has faced against several different kinds of enemies.

And before you ask, we have a romantic relationship.

I see..couldn't you talk to them while fighting?

[After all, you could block attacks and talk at the same time. Tohko chuckled and scratched her head upon hearing the last sentence.]

I wasn't going to ask..but it's good to hear that you managed to find someone who returns your feelings. If you ever get back to your universe, I wish you luck on that front.

However..if you are in a relationship with a person that's considered a hero and fought a lot, it seems odd that you don't know how to fight either.

From my understanding, I suspect it would be just ignored.

Thanks, but I don't need luck. [ She has the guy wrapped around her finger. ] A remembrancer isn't supposed to fight, that's just not my job. Plus, Ciaphas would always protect me if I really needed it.

[ Wow just the idea of that makes her want to gag. Pretending to be helpless is hard. ]
