A few minutes before anything happens, Ruana's voice rings out over the Tower's intercom--it manages to be louder than anything the residents happen to be doing. "Hey, everyone, there's something exciting going on at floor fifty-six! Go make sure they don't get themselves killed!"

You arrive, stepping or tumbling, in a surgical suite. It looks abandoned, with dust collecting on the table and floors. The lights flicker, and for a moment blood dripping off the table, puddling on the floor--but no, the lights are back, and surely that was your imagination. It's quiet, eerily so, but nothing hinders you, and you're free to spread out and explore. There are multiple rooms here, like in any hospital, and it's all a bit confusing. Occasionally the lights flicker, and it's a bit frightening as Things appear that shouldn't exist. Shadowy creatures stitched together and reaching for you, doctors brandishing phantom surgical tools, blood splattering the walls or floor or ceiling, how did it get there--but none are real, and all of them vanish when the lights return. Eventually you find the staircase, spiraling up and down into darkness. Approach it, though, and the thing glitters with a barrier that will push back any attempts at climbing the thing.

A girl, a teenager dressed in red and black, appears. And she does simply appear, inserting herself into the space, nearly pushing it aside to make room in it for where she is now. Her face beams with unconcealed excitement, and her words tumble out on top of themselves. "You can't go there! Yet, I mean. You'd all die!"

The girl steps onto the staircase, passing through the barrier as if it weren't there, and sits on the steps to address everyone. "Hi! I'm Ruana. You didn't show up the normal way, so the Tower can't support you yet. We got this one floor ready when I saw you were coming but, well, the Tower's kind've big, so getting all of them set up is taking a little longer than I thought." She smiles, sheepishly apologetic in a carefree sort of way. "I've got everyone coming here to visit you--or at least they know they can visit you--and I'll have someone bring food up for you. It'll be oatmeal, and oatmeal is super boring, but you have to eat it, okay? Then you can have whatever you want! The cafeteria's down on the first floor if you get hungry. We should have everything ready in a few hours. I've gotta go help with that, so you guys wait here.

"Don't worry, the monsters can't get to this floor as long as that barrier is up."

And then she's gone, blinking out of existence. The barrier will remain for three hours.

"That can only help, if you don't mind spending some magic on me. This places is not giving me any good vibes," she says just as the lights flicker on and off again, monstrous surgeons all focusing on Shura's horn for a second of darkness.

"I think that's a given," Yamato said flatly, slipping his phone out of his pocket and selecting 'Prayer'. He seemed unruffled by the visions that appeared when the lights flickered on and off. Cheap, harmless effects, really. Yamato don't care.

Shura smiled as she let the warm energy wash over her, feeling her knees become that much more a solid support for her weight. She does a test raising her heels from the ground, one after the other. "I think I'll be able to walk now." Walk, not run. It's still better than crutches.

"That's a start," Yamato agreed. "Now then, what are your thoughts on our current situation?"

"Well, aside from the bad vibe I am getting from this place, whatever called us out here is obviously trying to scare us shitless. Success is open to debate."

"Yes, nothing more terrifying than harmless illusions in the dark," Yamato drawled flatly, giving one such 'illusion' an unimpressed look. He had seen scarier things on routine JP's missions.

"Maybe it has other tricks. Maybe some people here are afraid of ghosts. I don't know. There are some monsters too, and I guess they're not part of the decor. For someone who can't run, it's a clear disadvantage." She looked down at her neck. "In any case, a free revival is nothing to reassure me."

"Heh, there's nothing wrong in dying. It's perfectly painless," Yamato said, smirking in genuine amusement before chuckling. Ignore him and his morbidness, Shura. "Ah, but, yes, you will be more of a hindrance than a help, if we encounter dangers within the tower. I do wish you the best of luck in surviving."

Shura stared at Yamato, completely flabbergasted. "Are you for fucking serious? You're just gonna run off and leave me behind to survive on my own???"
drakenguard: (uncomfortable)

"Not without giving you the required pistol and single shot."

Yamato seemed to realise that his joke hadn't gone over well though, and rolled his eyes, lifting his shoulders into a slightly defensive shrug. Well, okay, if this was five months ago, yes, he would have abandoned Shura (very much like how he had abandoned her all those months ago during the Scorpio Event), but now...well, he did feel somewhat responsible over Shura.

"I was merely being facetious, Shura. It's beneficial to move in groups, anyway, so no one will be leaving you alone here."

She eyed him very suspiciously for a moment more, before seemingly accepting his explanation. "You better not leave me behind. I may not run but I can still use skills to kill." And she'd hate to lose a friend as powerful as Yamato who has Prayer on top of everything else.

Then, apparently calmed, she leaned against her crutches. "Apparently we're supposed to get oatmeal, uh? I wonder why. I don't even like oatmeal."
drakenguard: (tch!)

[personal profile] drakenguard 2013-02-10 10:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Yamato let the other subject drop, and pulled a face at the mention of oatmeal. In his adventures into the land of civilian cuisine, Yamato had dried oatmeal. He didn't like it. It was lumpy and gross and it was like eating glue.

"...do we have to eat it...?"

"Ugh. Then I suppose I shall tolerate it with good humour," Yamato muttered sourly, crossing his arms in a rather grumpy manner.

"No, I'm pretty sure we can bitch about it," she answered, crossing her arms just like Yamato. "Devil knows I will."

Yamato let out a small harrumph of amusement. "There is not much to complain about, though. It is simply bland and tasteless. Like glue."
