A few minutes before anything happens, Ruana's voice rings out over the Tower's intercom--it manages to be louder than anything the residents happen to be doing. "Hey, everyone, there's something exciting going on at floor fifty-six! Go make sure they don't get themselves killed!"


You arrive, stepping or tumbling, in a surgical suite. It looks abandoned, with dust collecting on the table and floors. The lights flicker, and for a moment blood dripping off the table, puddling on the floor--but no, the lights are back, and surely that was your imagination. It's quiet, eerily so, but nothing hinders you, and you're free to spread out and explore. There are multiple rooms here, like in any hospital, and it's all a bit confusing. Occasionally the lights flicker, and it's a bit frightening as Things appear that shouldn't exist. Shadowy creatures stitched together and reaching for you, doctors brandishing phantom surgical tools, blood splattering the walls or floor or ceiling, how did it get there--but none are real, and all of them vanish when the lights return. Eventually you find the staircase, spiraling up and down into darkness. Approach it, though, and the thing glitters with a barrier that will push back any attempts at climbing the thing.

A girl, a teenager dressed in red and black, appears. And she does simply appear, inserting herself into the space, nearly pushing it aside to make room in it for where she is now. Her face beams with unconcealed excitement, and her words tumble out on top of themselves. "You can't go there! Yet, I mean. You'd all die!"

The girl steps onto the staircase, passing through the barrier as if it weren't there, and sits on the steps to address everyone. "Hi! I'm Ruana. You didn't show up the normal way, so the Tower can't support you yet. We got this one floor ready when I saw you were coming but, well, the Tower's kind've big, so getting all of them set up is taking a little longer than I thought." She smiles, sheepishly apologetic in a carefree sort of way. "I've got everyone coming here to visit you--or at least they know they can visit you--and I'll have someone bring food up for you. It'll be oatmeal, and oatmeal is super boring, but you have to eat it, okay? Then you can have whatever you want! The cafeteria's down on the first floor if you get hungry. We should have everything ready in a few hours. I've gotta go help with that, so you guys wait here.

"Don't worry, the monsters can't get to this floor as long as that barrier is up."

And then she's gone, blinking out of existence. The barrier will remain for three hours.

[When told she isn't an enemy, Samus lowers her weapon, looking apologetic. Her scanners, however, do reveal the mechanical parts of this person and... interesting.]

I won't shoot, I apologize. I thought I saw a demon, but it seems to have disappeared.

[Dakki moves out of her defensive stance when Samus lowers her weapon.]

I'm starting to wonder if there's actually anything genuinely hazardous in here with us. The shadows aren't behaving properly, but nothing's actually attacked me yet.

[She looks left, looks right, and takes a step forward. There are no hard feelings about the whole almost getting shot at thing. It's understandable in a place like this.]

[screwattack]

I wouldn't take my chances. [Which is why she's remaining in the power suit for now. Strange new place with strange creatures that may or may not actually exist... it was better to be cautious.]

Samus Aran, by the way. Did you come from Hinoto-Ri as well?

[photonicfighter]

I don't blame you. I'm still being careful. [It's always a good time for fancy powered armor! It looks sharp AND comes in handy when the shadows finally grow fangs.

Dakki nods in response to her question.] I did. Did you have a dream, too?

[screwattack]

I did, of the strange man who had initially brought us to Hinoto-Ri.

We were chosen for this mission, it seems. [A man-hunt, the kind of mission that she could definitely handle.] Apparently our target is capable of moving out of the city. He must be powerful. [All the more reason to be cautious, of course.]

[photonicfighter]

Mine had that strange man in it, too. [Well. That's kind of eerie. But it makes a certain amount of sense, too. If it's got the power to send them here and send them there, well....]

Would you know who that target is? I heard "Him", but I can't think of a name or a person to go with it.

[Then she jolts and blinks, catching herself. She had forgotten something!] I'm Dakki Sigal. It's good to meet you, Samus Aran.

[screwattack]

He must have been capable of telepathically connecting to many minds at once, like a network. [Strange and even amazing, but not particularly surprising to her.]

I'm not sure who the target is, though I'd like to find them without harming them first, if at all possible. I'd be terribly annoyed if our target was an innocent man.

[She doesn't like going on a mission blind like this.]

It's nice to meet you too, I hope we can work together to eliminate whatever threat may be lurking in this place.

That's an interesting way to think about it. Like a network... hm.

I was under the impression that we needed to apprehend the target, but not necessarily harm them. I hope no one else gets carried away when they find him. [She huffs lightly, turning her eyes skywards. Celingwards. Whichever.]

[screwattack]

I'm assuming the target to be hostile, however I will refrain from treating him as such until attacked. Perhaps I should spread the word to others to prevent harming our target until provoked.

After all, it would do us well to learn more about him first. The information we were given about this mission is astonishingly lacking.
