Characters: anyone participating in the event
Setting: floor 56 and eventually other areas of the Tower
Format: either
Summary: Welcome to the Tower.
Warnings: horror/creepiness/potential danger/generally unfortunate things all possible
Notes: PLEASE GO HERE TO MAKE NEW POSTS.

A few minutes before anything happens, Ruana's voice rings out over the Tower's intercom--it manages to be louder than anything the residents happen to be doing. "Hey, everyone, there's something exciting going on at floor fifty-six! Go make sure they don't get themselves killed!"

You arrive, stepping or tumbling, in a surgical suite. It looks abandoned, with dust collecting on the table and floors. The lights flicker, and for a moment blood dripping off the table, puddling on the floor--but no, the lights are back, and surely that was your imagination. It's quiet, eerily so, but nothing hinders you, and you're free to spread out and explore. There are multiple rooms here, like in any hospital, and it's all a bit confusing. Occasionally the lights flicker, and it's a bit frightening as Things appear that shouldn't exist. Shadowy creatures stitched together and reaching for you, doctors brandishing phantom surgical tools, blood splattering the walls or floor or ceiling, how did it get there--but none are real, and all of them vanish when the lights return. Eventually you find the staircase, spiraling up and down into darkness. Approach it, though, and the thing glitters with a barrier that will push back any attempts at climbing the thing.

A girl, a teenager dressed in red and black, appears. And she does simply appear, inserting herself into the space, nearly pushing it aside to make room in it for where she is now. Her face beams with unconcealed excitement, and her words tumble out on top of themselves. "You can't go there! Yet, I mean. You'd all die!"

The girl steps onto the staircase, passing through the barrier as if it weren't there, and sits on the steps to address everyone. "Hi! I'm Ruana. You didn't show up the normal way, so the Tower can't support you yet. We got this one floor ready when I saw you were coming but, well, the Tower's kind've big, so getting all of them set up is taking a little longer than I thought." She smiles, sheepishly apologetic in a carefree sort of way. "I've got everyone coming here to visit you--or at least they know they can visit you--and I'll have someone bring food up for you. It'll be oatmeal, and oatmeal is super boring, but you have to eat it, okay? Then you can have whatever you want! The cafeteria's down on the first floor if you get hungry. We should have everything ready in a few hours. I've gotta go help with that, so you guys wait here.

"Don't worry, the monsters can't get to this floor as long as that barrier is up."

And then she's gone, blinking out of existence. The barrier will remain for three hours.

Curious...

[Cloning, perhaps, with some implanted memories to make it seem like a full revival? That seemed likely, even if a bit out there into Sci-Fi territory]

So, no exits, hm?
alephbet: (That's why)

[personal profile] alephbet 2013-02-09 03:00 pm (UTC)(link)
No exits. Certain floors disable powers and flight, so even the ones that seem to open into the outside are unusable - most people don't take falling off from the thirtieth floor very well and they'll still return the next day in their rooms. You could try the stratosphere... if you could breathe in space.

[Yamato logged these details away. People could be revived within the tower, although Yamato was not about to walk off into ravine to try it out, there were no exits, certain floors had nasty effects, there were five administrators, and...]

What about these monsters? Are they demons?
alephbet: (As he who is the one)

[personal profile] alephbet 2013-02-09 07:39 pm (UTC)(link)
No, they're not. They can't be negotiated with and some seem to be warped versions of creatures from other worlds.
drakenguard: (mildly disgruntled)

[personal profile] drakenguard 2013-02-09 08:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Hn. I suppose they all have their various weakness and strengths as well?

[It merely meant Yamato would be going in blind regarding weaknesses if they weren't demons. Considering his demon stock was only two, well, Remiel will be enough to assist him]
alephbet: (Now I'm free)

[personal profile] alephbet 2013-02-09 08:22 pm (UTC)(link)
The weaknesses are hard to find in some of them - I'd avoid going out at night if you can help it, especially with a small party.

[Aleph is never short of six demons if it's past dark.]

I see.

[This has been an informative discussion...]

Do you know who the girl was that addressed us earlier? Her name was Ruana.

She's the administrator in charge, we think. She and Jason are the worst two in terms of the experiments they play on us. She has strong powers of her own.

[personal profile] drakenguard 2013-02-10 11:52 am (UTC)(link)
Wonderful.

[Well, at least this wouldn't be a dull field trip. It seems they would have to avoid being 'played' with by this Ruana...]

I heard that there are multiple floors here... are there specific floors that should be avoided?
alephbet: (Well you can take those things and)

[personal profile] alephbet 2013-02-10 12:01 pm (UTC)(link)
A general rule is that the lowest floors are less dangerous than the highest, though that isn't always the case.

The restaurant will take a part of your body for its price if you don't bring it what it asks for - I'd say that isn't worth it. Floor twenty-one.

Floor thirty-seven can probably kill anyone who steps into the dark. Floor forty-one, the same with the insects. Don't turn the flashlight on on forty-six. You shouldn't step onto the floor with the playing cards, fifty-two - it's tedious to escape when it isn't impossible.

[He got stuck there for a while once.]

Eighty-six is full of fae rings with all the dangers that entails, eighty-seven poppies that lure people to sleep incredibly quickly, leaving them easy prey for other things. Entering the water on floor ninety will probably get you drowned by mermaids.

Those are the ones that stick out to me. There are others... a lot of others... but they're easier to spot the dangers of.
drakenguard: (oh shit)

[...]

I see this tower isn't very friendly towards its occupants. Thank you for the warnings. Are there any actual safe spots, then? I don't particularly wish to remain here since it seems devoid of monsters.

[But not of the headache inducing horror flashes]
alephbet: (In mountains that are stacked with fear)

[personal profile] alephbet 2013-02-10 10:39 pm (UTC)(link)
The dorms on the top floor are almost always safe. The cafeteria at the bottom is a good spot if they aren't serving poison on the menu that particular month. And the meadow floor is the twenty-fifth and is perfectly safe during the day.

[personal profile] drakenguard 2013-02-11 12:15 am (UTC)(link)
During the day? I suspect these monsters are more active at night, then.
alephbet: (Why get in line)

[personal profile] alephbet 2013-02-11 12:17 am (UTC)(link)
Not only more active, but some of the most dangerous monsters only appear at night. The dormitories are the only safe spots then.
drakenguard: (explaining)

[personal profile] drakenguard 2013-02-14 12:46 pm (UTC)(link)
...

[Only the dormitories? Well, unless they were given rooms, Yamato foresaw their nights being full of fighting for their lives]

A bit problematic in our case...
alephbet: (Sell your watch today)

[personal profile] alephbet 2013-02-14 01:32 pm (UTC)(link)
There are empty rooms. You could stay there for the moment.
drakenguard: (Default)

[personal profile] drakenguard 2013-02-18 12:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Would they register as dormitories, though? If they're known to be empty...
alephbet: (Default)

[personal profile] alephbet 2013-02-18 03:01 pm (UTC)(link)
I think so. The monsters don't enter the entire floor.
