Summary: Welcome to the Tower.
Warnings: horror/creepiness/potential danger/generally unfortunate things all possible

A few minutes before anything happens, Ruana's voice rings out over the Tower's intercom--it manages to be louder than anything the residents happen to be doing. "Hey, everyone, there's something exciting going on at floor fifty-six! Go make sure they don't get themselves killed!"

You arrive, stepping or tumbling, in a surgical suite. It looks abandoned, with dust collecting on the table and floors. The lights flicker, and for a moment blood dripping off the table, puddling on the floor--but no, the lights are back, and surely that was your imagination. It's quiet, eerily so, but nothing hinders you, and you're free to spread out and explore. There are multiple rooms here, like in any hospital, and it's all a bit confusing. Occasionally the lights flicker, and it's a bit frightening as Things appear that shouldn't exist. Shadowy creatures stitched together and reaching for you, doctors brandishing phantom surgical tools, blood splattering the walls or floor or ceiling, how did it get there--but none are real, and all of them vanish when the lights return. Eventually you find the staircase, spiraling up and down into darkness. Approach it, though, and the thing glitters with a barrier that will push back any attempts at climbing the thing.

A girl, a teenager dressed in red and black, appears. And she does simply appear, inserting herself into the space, nearly pushing it aside to make room in it for where she is now. Her face beams with unconcealed excitement, and her words tumble out on top of themselves. "You can't go there! Yet, I mean. You'd all die!"

The girl steps onto the staircase, passing through the barrier as if it weren't there, and sits on the steps to address everyone. "Hi! I'm Ruana. You didn't show up the normal way, so the Tower can't support you yet. We got this one floor ready when I saw you were coming but, well, the Tower's kind've big, so getting all of them set up is taking a little longer than I thought." She smiles, sheepishly apologetic in a carefree sort of way. "I've got everyone coming here to visit you--or at least they know they can visit you--and I'll have someone bring food up for you. It'll be oatmeal, and oatmeal is super boring, but you have to eat it, okay? Then you can have whatever you want! The cafeteria's down on the first floor if you get hungry. We should have everything ready in a few hours. I've gotta go help with that, so you guys wait here.

"Don't worry, the monsters can't get to this floor as long as that barrier is up."

And then she's gone, blinking out of existence. The barrier will remain for three hours.

[Well, this Ryoji would be slightly different. He had been in the Seal for quite a while before arriving in the tower. Still, there's the familiar feeling of Death, and of Nyx, repressed and weakened, but still present.

And yeah, Ryoji would probably like an explanation. He's a little new to this alternate timeline stuff.

He rubs the back of his head, chuckling a little nervously.]

I never expected to see you here...

[The Ryoji he was familiar with had been placed in the Seal for some time as well, but for a slightly short time before being pulled to the city of Hinoto-Ri. Mm, Nyx energy and the pressure of Death that weakly radiated from his other self was pleasant to feel.

Well, ask and you shall receive. Fire away.

Pharos regarded him with that unfaltering off-kilter smile.]

It was quite an unexpected turn of events for me as well.

[All that energy does is make Ryoji really uncomfortable. Not too long ago, Nyx had taken his body, and she could do it again.

But this was no time to worry about that.]

Yeah... how did you get here?

[The discomfort wasn't shared oddly, as Pharos simply found the sensation comforting in some manner. Sorry, bro you're the only one of us whose' form was strong to house her for very long.

Pharos tipped his chin thoughtfully with one finger.]

Meddling, I presume! There was an artifact that triggered our transport, and Philemon gave us a mission to complete while we were here.

[But he doesn't want to house her! She's like the worst guest ever. There's just no way to get her to leave.]

Ah... who's Philemon? You came here because of some mission?

[Well, it's not like there's much choice about it. She's the maternal enity; technically speaking, they were fragments of her. Evacuate her from the premises and they would stop existing, wouldn't they? ~~Don't you like your mom at all, Ryoji. :( She was mean, but she wasn't actively malicious.~~]

A personification of humanity's yearning for enlightenment and evolution, the antithesis of Nyarlathoteq. [Older self, did you somehow lose the manual for whose your fellow supernatural entities when you gained a human form, geez.] The details given to us weren't very specific. We're looking for a 'He.'

[Ryoji wouldn't care much if he stopped existing, but... he can always hope for a way for both him and Pharos to exist without her around. ~~Sorry, Pharos, he's in his rebellious teen phase.~~

Though Pharos' explanation does start to ring a bell. He can just remember slight fragments, like when Yu had mentioned Izanami.]

Ah, that does sound a little familiar... 'He'? That could apply to half the people in this Tower. Sounds like it might be tough.

[If the personality known as "Ryoji" creased to exist, Death itself would continue to be there... And you know, if the children of man stopped collectively wanting to die, She being around wouldn't be an issue at all.

She's perfectly happy to sleep dormant up on the moon undisturbed for all eternity after all if humans didn't wake her up all the time with their whining and fighting and pleading for death like they did. ~~Sigh, older self, c'mooooon.~~]

Mm-huh. They're both very active forces, even back in our world. [Pharos's forehead crinkled.] Yes, that's probably true.

[Okay, that was regrettably true. Ryoji did greatly admire humans, but even he had to admit that they needed to regain a little more hope. Luckily, it seemed that in the Tower, most of them were better than that.]

I suppose they would be. I didn't sense them here, but...

A-Anyways, do you need any help with the mission? How are you going to be able to tell which person is the one you're looking for?

[If that actually happened, if they could actually pull that off, Pharos would be overjoyed; euphoric even and he wasn't even sure if he was capable of feeling such emotions. But alas. His faith in the children of man was very, very low.]

Help would be appreciated, yes: the details were not very specific and given to us in a brief passage of time. I am unsure as to how we'll identify the person we're looking myself.

[Philemon wasn't that helpful when it came to that sort of thing right now.]

[Come on, Pharos, you have to have a little hope. That's pretty much all Ryoji has left.]

I'll do my best, but if you don't know who you're looking for, I'm not sure what I can do...

[Hahahahah, having hope for human beings! Imagine that... And Ryoji bro, he can't exactly you what to look for if he doesn't know jack shit himself.]

I believe it is the thought that counts. Perhaps this 'He' will reveal himself without us searching.

[It seriously isn't that hard to hope, Pharos. ~~And where did you learn that kind of language?~~]

Maybe... but around here, it's usually a lot harder than that.

[Being optimistic about humanity is a tall order, okay. ~~SEES doesn't always keep a clean tongue when they get thrashed in Tartarus.~~]

Then the difficulty must be overcome.

Well, at least if it's something you have to do, you should be able to do it.

[At least, Ryoji hopes the Tower will be that nice.]

[~~Mitsuru and Aikhiko are the Team Parents, they're the ones who should be doing the mouth-washing.~~]

There are important people awaiting his return. It would be a tragedy if we disappointed them.

[Pharos smiles cheerfully, making it clear who he was referring to.]

... I'm sure you won't. It'll work out okay in the end.

[There's really nothing else he can say besides that. He's too overwhelmed to second guess it or worry, he just needs to hope.]

Of course.

[And if it didn't, well that would be unacceptable.]

A-Anyways... I'm going to check on some of the others around here. Are you going to be safe on your own?

[Pharos smiles.]

There's no need to worry about me. Go right on ahead.

[Annnd...

He fades out, the inside of him turning transparent first before the outline of his body followed suit. The small child vanishes from the spot.]

H-Hey-

[Did he just disappear? Strange. Ryoji stands there in confusion for a moment before heading off to check on the others. Pharos will come back when he's needed, right?]
