A few minutes before anything happens, Ruana's voice rings out over the Tower's intercom--it manages to be louder than anything the residents happen to be doing. "Hey, everyone, there's something exciting going on at floor fifty-six! Go make sure they don't get themselves killed!"


You arrive, stepping or tumbling, in a surgical suite. It looks abandoned, with dust collecting on the table and floors. The lights flicker, and for a moment blood dripping off the table, puddling on the floor--but no, the lights are back, and surely that was your imagination. It's quiet, eerily so, but nothing hinders you, and you're free to spread out and explore. There are multiple rooms here, like in any hospital, and it's all a bit confusing. Occasionally the lights flicker, and it's a bit frightening as Things appear that shouldn't exist. Shadowy creatures stitched together and reaching for you, doctors brandishing phantom surgical tools, blood splattering the walls or floor or ceiling, how did it get there--but none are real, and all of them vanish when the lights return. Eventually you find the staircase, spiraling up and down into darkness. Approach it, though, and the thing glitters with a barrier that will push back any attempts at climbing the thing.

A girl, a teenager dressed in red and black, appears. And she does simply appear, inserting herself into the space, nearly pushing it aside to make room in it for where she is now. Her face beams with unconcealed excitement, and her words tumble out on top of themselves. "You can't go there! Yet, I mean. You'd all die!"

The girl steps onto the staircase, passing through the barrier as if it weren't there, and sits on the steps to address everyone. "Hi! I'm Ruana. You didn't show up the normal way, so the Tower can't support you yet. We got this one floor ready when I saw you were coming but, well, the Tower's kind've big, so getting all of them set up is taking a little longer than I thought." She smiles, sheepishly apologetic in a carefree sort of way. "I've got everyone coming here to visit you--or at least they know they can visit you--and I'll have someone bring food up for you. It'll be oatmeal, and oatmeal is super boring, but you have to eat it, okay? Then you can have whatever you want! The cafeteria's down on the first floor if you get hungry. We should have everything ready in a few hours. I've gotta go help with that, so you guys wait here.

"Don't worry, the monsters can't get to this floor as long as that barrier is up."

And then she's gone, blinking out of existence. The barrier will remain for three hours.

[ He groans inwardly. The other Adachi is clearly not a shadow, either, for lack of golden eyes. Not to mention, it seems that being near this guy makes him feel woozy. ] Do you know of anyone else having this happen to them recently...?

[Yeah, suddenly coming in contact with another version of yourself generally...makes you feel like shit. Maybe it was that concept drilled into everybody's heads about never talking to a past version of yourself paired with the Magatsu-Izanagi's saying NOPE to each other?]

...Hey... [Why was he being ignored, like he was more of a little drowned cat that had somehow wound up in their house? Just because this weird other one was here didn't mean he was suddenly insignificant. He had things he needed answering too, damn it.]

[Because forget that. Adachi is standing up and walking right over to the other one. How are you real. How are you real.

He reaches out and tugs at one of the odd tufts of hair hanging around the other Adachi's ear.] ...Huh. [And more twisting.]

I dunno... I could ask sensei, maybe he--

[Luke cut himself off as the other Adachi suddenly reminded him that he was there. He gave a sheepish noise... but then the other one was poking and prodding at his twin.]

[...now he knows how Asch feels.]

[Yes. Yes you do. You little shit. Back to grumbling now.]

[ Whoa there!! He winces for a moment before he swats the other Adachi's hand off and away from him, stepping away himself... and straightening his suit jacket. ] I'm real, alright? [ He grumbles afterwards: ] You don't have to pull at me.

[Adachi really has to kick his suspension of disbelief out of here. He lowers his hand with a sigh.]

Give me a break, first Hinoto-Ri and now this. [A Yu that denies he ever burned the letter when he clearly did, and now he's looking at himself. Yep, it's about time his suspension of disbelief kicks the bucket.]

Yeah, but sometimes looking isn't enough to make sure. I didn't wanna do it, either, but... What are you supposed to do when you see yourself? [He didn't know how to react at the different Yus, so... Shrug it off and accept his life just took another weird turn? Only, how is he supposed to get anything entertaining out of this shit...

He can't even ask important questions here, either, because of how crowded the area is.] Besides ask some things, but look around. [Why does there have to be so many people.]

[Luke was muttering under his breath, but it was still pretty audible. Oh Shadows. After a moment he shook his head, trying to figure this out.]

So... wait, you guys are the same person? You're not a replica or anything?

[ He ignores that quip about yellow eyes, rolling his shoulder lazily as if this totally doesn't effect him. He looks away from the other Adachi, mostly because this is giving him a headache and he'd rather not have another one. ] Not the same person. [ He won't accept anything else.

Although. If this Adachi is in a place better off than the tower, then maybe.... ] Hey, you got any smokes? [ He says this, rubbing his nose. ]

[...What did that kid say? Yellow eyes? He couldn't seriously be talking about shadows, could he? How would he even know about them?]

[Oh, then the other him asked a question. He'd been in Hinoto-Ri for a total of two and a half days before he was ripped away. You tell him.]

...Nevermind. [It would make sense that they had no cigarettes here, huh?] No, I didn't have enough time to do anything before I wound up here. [Even if Adachi had been considering helping out the city, this is not the way to get a guy to like you goddamn]

I was in that weird city for...two days I think... What a pain. A warning would've been nice, y'know? I barely had enough to visit their weird version of Junes... [Where everything but cabbage and ramen was still out of his price range. Thanks for that.]

[Luke let out a curious noise; weird how one Adachi reacted to his muttered comment and the other didn't... hunh.]

[He folded his hands behind his head, kind of curious now.]

So... you were in a different city from usual when you ended up here? That... Heenoto-ree place you mentioned?

[ He listens carefully, wondering just how much of this information is actually worth noting and not. It's easier for him if he just plays calm and casual at this point, mention of cities aside. For all he knows, this is just some other tower experiment. And if it really is-- ] Well if you want my educated guess, you won't be staying here for long, either. [ The things the admins come up with only last a certain amount of time, right? That, and this Adachi is not entirely convinced that the other is his own person. Maybe he's just some kind of apparition in the end. ]
