A few minutes before anything happens, Ruana's voice rings out over the Tower's intercom--it manages to be louder than anything the residents happen to be doing. "Hey, everyone, there's something exciting going on at floor fifty-six! Go make sure they don't get themselves killed!"


You arrive, stepping or tumbling, in a surgical suite. It looks abandoned, with dust collecting on the table and floors. The lights flicker, and for a moment blood dripping off the table, puddling on the floor--but no, the lights are back, and surely that was your imagination. It's quiet, eerily so, but nothing hinders you, and you're free to spread out and explore. There are multiple rooms here, like in any hospital, and it's all a bit confusing. Occasionally the lights flicker, and it's a bit frightening as Things appear that shouldn't exist. Shadowy creatures stitched together and reaching for you, doctors brandishing phantom surgical tools, blood splattering the walls or floor or ceiling, how did it get there--but none are real, and all of them vanish when the lights return. Eventually you find the staircase, spiraling up and down into darkness. Approach it, though, and the thing glitters with a barrier that will push back any attempts at climbing the thing.

A girl, a teenager dressed in red and black, appears. And she does simply appear, inserting herself into the space, nearly pushing it aside to make room in it for where she is now. Her face beams with unconcealed excitement, and her words tumble out on top of themselves. "You can't go there! Yet, I mean. You'd all die!"

The girl steps onto the staircase, passing through the barrier as if it weren't there, and sits on the steps to address everyone. "Hi! I'm Ruana. You didn't show up the normal way, so the Tower can't support you yet. We got this one floor ready when I saw you were coming but, well, the Tower's kind've big, so getting all of them set up is taking a little longer than I thought." She smiles, sheepishly apologetic in a carefree sort of way. "I've got everyone coming here to visit you--or at least they know they can visit you--and I'll have someone bring food up for you. It'll be oatmeal, and oatmeal is super boring, but you have to eat it, okay? Then you can have whatever you want! The cafeteria's down on the first floor if you get hungry. We should have everything ready in a few hours. I've gotta go help with that, so you guys wait here.

"Don't worry, the monsters can't get to this floor as long as that barrier is up."

And then she's gone, blinking out of existence. The barrier will remain for three hours.

*Selphie gives Sam a long look before she realises that actually maybe that's something he doesn't know about her*

Well actually, magic exists here anyway, cause I'm here. I do magic.

Huh?

[He does seem quite surprised by that.]

You do? Really??

Yup!

*Selphie grins, a tendency to be a little proud of her abilities*

W-what do you do? Like, there must be different kinds of magic, right?

[booyaka_boom]

Pretty much everything. All different kinds of elemental magic, anyway. Fire, water, thunder, earth... *She lists them off on her fingers as she goes*

[primordial]

[OH GOD FIRE, NOT FIRE...better stay a bit cautious when it comes to that]

Fire? Water? Thunder, even? So, what, you could summon a thunderbolt to sizzle me on the spot, or what? How does it work?

[booyaka_boom]

Yup! I totally could! Or a big ball of fire and burn you to a crisp!

*How'd ya like that one, Sam? Of course, she's only being excitable!*

[primordial]

[INTERNAL SCREAMING]

I-I-I would rather that you not, please...

[booyaka_boom]

*Aww Sam, Selphie can't help but giggle*

Don't worry! I wouldn't! Unless you were being really mean to me, of course!

[primordial]

I-I would never be mean to you, never ever. Please don't do that...

[You've spooked him quite a bit, due to how he's shuddering at the thought of it.]

[booyaka_boom]

*Sorry, she's still giggling, pressing a hand on his arm*

Okay.

[Deep breathes, deep breathes...]

So, um, what do you think we should do now?

[booyaka_boom]

*Oh, crap, yeah. That room... The creepy things. It was easier when she was distracted by Sam. She also takes a deep breath, though perhaps for different reasons*

I... don't know.

[primordial]

Um...how about we try to find other people we know? The more people the better, I-I think...

[booyaka_boom]

Okay. Yeah. Good idea.

*Selphie glances around her, not sure where to look, but at least this is a plan of action*

[He glances around too, eyes peeled for anybody else around as he starts to walk down the hallways.]

You know...how do you think we got here? I don't remember anything too strange before I went to sleep...

[booyaka_boom]

*Selphie paces along closely with him, also keeping a careful eye out for any danger*

Hmm.. me neither. It feels kinda the same, but different, to when I wound up at Hinoto-Ri..

[primordial]

Yeah...I mean, but this time, I have the feeling they sent us here. To do what, I don't know.

[booyaka_boom]

Me neither...

*Selphie pauses to take a good look around the place, another creeped-out shiver running down her spine*

Urgh, but I have a feeling that it isn't good.

[primordial]

Do you have that weird dream too? I mean, where he was saying stuff about Nyarlo-something...

[booyaka_boom]

*Selphie gives a grave nod*

Yeah, and it was weird alright. Whatcha think it means?

[primordial]

Maybe we have to find whatever it is? Or whoever it is. It sounded like a name...but why us, really?

[booyaka_boom]

I dunno. I mean... it's not like we're hiding any big secrets or anything, right? So, what could they want?

*Ah Selphie, forever just assuming that everything is lovely and nice as it seems*

[primordial]

[Hahaha, oh Selphie, you have no idea what you are even saying. Sam actually pauses at that, before a shake of the head.]

Perhaps they thought that we were the best possible candidates for doing such a thing.

[booyaka_boom]

*IKR? The hilarity of it all. Still, Selphie blinks at him, wondering if he is hiding something, but only thinking about it for a fraction of a second*

I guess. Whatever the thing is... That would suggest you and me got some kinda something in common. Whaddaya think it is?

*She tilts her head, wondering if there's more than just being resident at Hinoto-Ri*
