9th Recipe - Surprise Banquet [Open]

Summary: Kazumi is running around trying to cook things for all the newcomers so they don't have to just eat what's on the menu! Also, stocking up the other kitchen

[Cafeteria]

[A young girl with short hair is hurrying in and out of the kitchen, greeting various people and coming back out with various dishes. Anyone who isn't seated and eating yet, she'll approach, or if she knows you, she'll approach anyway! Newcomer or Tower Resident, she wants to make sure everyone can have what they want - the menu's not that bad this month, but everyone always has different preferences, right? Though, all the guests have to make sure they have their oatmeal first!]

Hi! Are you hungry? What can I get for you?

[Cafeteria Kitchen]

[There's about eight different things cooking in here at any one time as Kazumi runs in and out and cooks various things while working around the staff. She's doing surprisingly well considering how much is going on! But she looks like she's about to run herself ragged...]

[Floor 60 - Deluxe Kitchen]

[Later in the day, one might find Kazumi here... there's an enormous pile of foods here, mostly things like sacks of flour and sugar and so on, but also vegetables and fruits and meat. It looks like she basically stole everything out of the cafeteria...]

Ummm, now how to organize this...?

Oh, sure, any preference of what kind?

None at all, as long as it tastes good.

Alright, I'll be right back then!

[She scampers off to the kitchen, checking on a few other things while she's at it. It's a few minutes before she's back, dropping a couple plates off at other tables before she returns to his seat with a small ham sandwich as well as the tea set and a pot of hot water at just the right temperature.]

Here you go, sorry for the wait!

The wait is fine if you're doing the serving.

[Already starting up with the tea. Tanna tea is the most important thing ever to Cain...aside from his chainsword and laspistol. Amberely may or may not be equal to tanna tea.]

[Kazumi smiles, happy to be of service. As the tea starts to steep, she does wrinkle her nose a little. That was certainly a... unique smell.]

That seems like it's pretty bitter...

It's pretty good. This plant only grows on the ice planet of Valhalla, by the way.

[Letting it sit for a bit so it's good and flavorful.]

But it's also an acquired taste.

I guess that makes it pretty rare then, huh? I guess it's lucky you had some with you!

Eheh, yeah, a lot of teas are like that. I guess that's why a lot of people like milk or sugar to make that easier.

Not rare as much as difficult to get. They can only supply so much of a sector, much less the entire galaxy.

Wow, so you're from a time when there's galactic travel? That's so cool!

[hideandhero]

I can't explain how not cool it actually is. You know, jumping through the Warp is a dangerous and risky prospect.

[starofpleiades]

Eh? So... space-travel's really dangerous in your time still?

[hideandhero]

That's how it is. The only thing that stand between someone and a horrifying death while traveling in the Warp is a thin field powered by machines that are thousands of years old.

[starofpleiades]

Th, that's kind of scary! Though I guess airplanes are kind of scary too when you think about it, but why are you using such old technology? Even it sounds really advanced from my point of view.

[hideandhero]

That's just how most technology it is. Leftovers from the Dark Age of Technology.

[starofpleiades]

The Dark Age...? Then shouldn't you have something more modern?

[The dark ages would be less advanced, wouldn't they?]

[hideandhero]

No...? It's called the Dark Ages because we don't have the knowledge from that period. Dark, lights out, that kind of thing.

[starofpleiades]

Oh! Um, that's a bit different than what I thought. There's a period of Western History on Earth that's called the Dark Ages because they were the ones in the dark - things were really bleak and a lot of knowledge was lost in that time.

[hideandhero]

Yeah, I can't say I know much about Earth before the year 29,000 or so. Even then, I didn't pay too much attention in classes....

[starofpleiades]

W, wow, you're from a really long time in the future... We're barely past the year 2,000...

[hideandhero]

...I guess Amberley wasn't lying when she said everyone was from forever ago.

[starofpleiades]

Eheh, it seems that way. Even the people I thought of as from the distant future are way, way in the past for you...

It's almost the year 42,000 for me. So you're way back there.

[starofpleiades]

Wow, I can't even imagine that far... I'm pretty sure that's more than all of human history so far! From my point of view, I mean.

But... you have galactic travel, but it's a kind of lost technology from the past for you?

[hideandhero]

Beats me. I just know that the cogboys work their hardest to keep the stuff up and running, even after its thousands of years old. That says to me that they have trouble building that kind of thing. If you want a clearer answer, you'll have to ask a techpriest.
