9th Recipe - Surprise Banquet [Open]

Summary: Kazumi is running around trying to cook things for all the newcomers so they don't have to just eat what's on the menu! Also, stocking up the other kitchen
Warnings: None foreseen

[Cafeteria]

[A young girl with short hair is hurrying in and out of the kitchen, greeting various people and coming back out with various dishes. Anyone who isn't seated and eating yet, she'll approach, or if she knows you, she'll approach anyway! Newcomer or Tower Resident, she wants to make sure everyone can have what they want - the menu's not that bad this month, but everyone always has different preferences, right? Though, all the guests have to make sure they have their oatmeal first!]

Hi! Are you hungry? What can I get for you?

[Cafeteria Kitchen]

[There's about eight different things cooking in here at any one time as Kazumi runs in and out and cooks various things while working around the staff. She's doing surprisingly well considering how much is going on! But she looks like she's about to run herself ragged...]

[Floor 60 - Deluxe Kitchen]

[Later in the day, one might find Kazumi here... there's an enormous pile of foods here, mostly things like sacks of flour and sugar and so on, but also vegetables and fruits and meat. It looks like she basically stole everything out of the cafeteria...]

Ummm, now how to organize this...?

Woland. He's a character from The Master and Margarita. He's basically the Devil, and pulls various cruel tricks on various people..but he's not a wholly terrible person, as he does some good.

[She then sighed.]

I see..maybe we can get the one who has emotions to help us. If the one without emotions was lying, then the one without emotions might tell the truth..or we could pick out his lies a bit easier. But it's good that they can't make any contracts here!

Hmm... it's cruel, but I think that's because they don't have a concept of cruelty, really. I'm not sure about doing good either though...

Yeah, it's kind of hard to tell whether they're lying or not... since there's not much way to test it. There aren't even witches here either.

I'm guessing that they run on blue and orange morality. That may be why it's hart for you to figure them out.

..And that's true..but that doesn't mean we can't try to pull the truth out of them.

Blue... and orange morality? [What even]

I guess so. Maybe if Umika or someone with mental abilities like that were here...

Yup, blue and orange morality! You know how people usually refer to morality in terms of black and white? Well, when someone is operating on a different morality system entirely, you would call that system blue and orange.

[Tohko then looked a little puzzled.]

Is Umika a friend of yours? What sort of abilities does she have?

Eh? I've never heard of that... I guess it makes sense? I... guess that's kind of how they work, yeah.

She is! {Well, uh, sort of? Kazumi... didn't want to think about that.] She has memory magic, like the power to extract the thoughts of an enemy so we can know their weakness, things like that.

Well..it might be how they work. It's a term mostly used in fiction, so I'm not surprised that you haven't heard it before.

[Tohko then smiled and thought up a plan.]

..Is it possible to extract Kyuubey's and Jyuubey's thoughts?

[starofpleiades]

I guess I haven't really read many books like that.

Umm, maybe? I'm not exactly sure how it works. I know it works on Witches, and she can work with people's memories, but those two...

I see..you should read more books like that! They may be able to help you out in ways no one else can!

..but you're not sure whether it will work on them. But..it's still worth a try, right?

[starofpleiades]

Maybe! Or I could ask someone like you who's read them.

It would be, but Umika's not here...

But I may not always be here. Besides, the books are wonderful! It would be a shame if you didn't read them.

[Tohko then patted Kazumi's head again.]

Alright then. We'll think of an alternative. I'll help you in any way I can!

Well, maybe I'll try it in my spare time. I know we have a library on one of the floors...

Eheh, thanks, Tohko! Hopefully we can find something... though really, just getting through all the things the tower throws at us is pretty tough.

[At that, Tohko smiled.]

That's great! You'll be happy we did...and we have two libraries-the fiction is on the third floor and the nonfiction is on the nineteenth floor.

And you're welcome! I'm always happy to help, especially with Wolands..and dealing with the Tower is pretty tough..but I'm sure that we'll come out alright in the end!

Do we? Haha, I guess you'd know, huh? I definitely prefer fiction though.

Mm, yeah. I hold that hope as well.

[Tohko chuckled a little at that.]

Well, I am a book girl..and I am a librarian here. But I agree with you-fiction is a bit more fun to read than nonfiction sometimes.

And it's good that you hold onto that hope! It's hard for some people to keep clutching at it, so it's nice that you still can.

[starofpleiades]

Mm, I have to. Giving in to despair... isn't an option here! We have to fight on, for the sake of returning to our homes ever!

[Have another headpat, Kazumi. And a smile.]

Exactly! Getting home, making sure people are okay, getting through to the Administrators..there are too many things that we have to fight for and work towards. Despair only slows you down!

[starofpleiades]

Yup! Eheh, and food's important to that - it's hard to be depressed with a delicious meal, and it's impossible to have hope on an empty stomach!

[tohko_amano]

Well, I don't know if it's impossible to have hope on an empty stomach, but it does make it harder.

Speaking of which, what do we have to cook next?

[starofpleiades]

Hmm, let's see... I was thinking since we have eggs, we could make a quiche! Have you ever had one before?

[tohko_amano]

Oh, I've had a quiche before! They're quite delicious! I've never made one before..but they shouldn't be too hard!

[starofpleiades]

Mm, yeah, basically the only tough part is the pastry crust, but the rest is really easy! And you can put pretty much what you want in it. Would you like to pick out the meats and vegetables and chop those up?

[tohko_amano]

[At that, Tohko smiled and nodded.]

Oh, sure! That shouldn't be too hard to do..let's see..

[Tohko, looking in a fridge, pulled out some ham, a green pepper, and some spinach.]

Is it alright if I put spinach in? I know not everyone likes it..

That should be fine! When it's in a quiche, I don't think most people can really tell anyway.

[tohko_amano]

Probably not, but I thought I should ask anyway!

[Tohko smiled and, after putting the ingredients on a the counter, got a cutting board and a knife before proceeding to chop up the ham.]
