9th Recipe - Surprise Banquet [Open]

Summary: Kazumi is running around trying to cook things for all the newcomers so they don't have to just eat what's on the menu! Also, stocking up the other kitchen

[Cafeteria]

[A young girl with short hair is hurrying in and out of the kitchen, greeting various people and coming back out with various dishes. Anyone who isn't seated and eating yet, she'll approach, or if she knows you, she'll approach anyway! Newcomer or Tower Resident, she wants to make sure everyone can have what they want - the menu's not that bad this month, but everyone always has different preferences, right? Though, all the guests have to make sure they have their oatmeal first!]

Hi! Are you hungry? What can I get for you?

[Cafeteria Kitchen]

[There's about eight different things cooking in here at any one time as Kazumi runs in and out and cooks various things while working around the staff. She's doing surprisingly well considering how much is going on! But she looks like she's about to run herself ragged...]

[Floor 60 - Deluxe Kitchen]

[Later in the day, one might find Kazumi here... there's an enormous pile of foods here, mostly things like sacks of flour and sugar and so on, but also vegetables and fruits and meat. It looks like she basically stole everything out of the cafeteria...]

Ummm, now how to organize this...?

Maybe we should make some announcements or something... I think there's a lot of us who can hunt or gather food from various floors and those that can prepare them, so there shouldn't be any need to do something like that!

Sounds like a good idea. I'd definitely be up for helping hunt.

Thanks, that'd be a great help! There's a lot of storage space here - um, though be careful! It looks like you can't open the walk-in freezer from the inside.

[puppy_lancer]

[He nods.]

I'll watch out for that.

[Though he might be able to phase out of the freezer in spirit mode if he tried...]

Eheh, thanks. And just spread the word I guess! We can use all the help we can get keeping it stocked, I'll probably be going between the cafeteria and this floor for cooking things.

If you want, I can carry the stuff for you too. It'll take fewer trips if I'm doing it.

[starofpleiades]

Mm, yeah! I kind of had to cheat to get this much up here, so having someone else help would be great.

[puppy_lancer]

...Wait, how did you cheat?

[starofpleiades]

Eheh, well... I used magic to help carry this much. I'm not really supposed to though.

[puppy_lancer]

[He raises an eyebrow.]

What's wrong with using magic?

[starofpleiades]

Um, well... if I use it too much, my Soul Gem grows darker, and then I'll have to go see Enoch again to get it cleaned.

[puppy_lancer]

Soul Gem?

[That sounds a little...ominous.]

[starofpleiades]

Um, well, it's the source of all my magic, so I have to be careful with conserving my power.

[It wasn't... exactly a lie? She doesn't want him worrying more]

[puppy_lancer]

Ah.

[That's understandable.]

You know what, I'll get more of my kind to help out. I'm sure between all of us, we can solve the transport problem.

Eheheh, thanks. It would be a big help, and if it turns out the food does stay here even when they cut off the cafeteria, it would be a huge benefit to everyone!

[He nods and then goes to open the fridge.]

So, which foods go in here? The vegetables and meat?

[starofpleiades]

Yes, those! Um, let's go with moving the meats to the shelves around arm level since they're heavier so people don't have to bend over as much to pick them up; vegetables can go in the lower drawers.

[puppy_lancer]

[He starts placing the meat into the stated position.]

Let me guess, everyone here prefers meat. You'd think they didn't feed us enough down in the cafeteria.

[starofpleiades]

Ahah, a bit... but mostly just because most of the meat's denser, so we can put the leafier vegetables lower. Plus the cooler temperature is good for things like melons.

[puppy_lancer]

[He stops and turns toward Kazumi, looking surprised and interested.]

...I didn't know there was that reason to consider.

[Looks like there's more to cooking than he thought.]

Eheh, well, when you do a lot of cooking - or you've moving this much food - even little things like making what's heavier easier to grab can make a big difference in the long run.

Most people just organize their kitchen however fits, or however they've always done it, and it seems like too much work to take everything out and reorganize from scratch, so I want to make sure to do it right the first time!

Well, I'm glad you're the first person who showed up to store food here. Otherwise, we'd have a hell of a time reorganizing.

[starofpleiades]

Haha, probably! But then, I don't think too many people are interested in hauling so much food up here. If they were, they might be the kind to consider that sort of thing.

[puppy_lancer]

[He's placing the vegetables and fruits now.]

You can say this floor was made for the cooks. About time you guys got something nice, though. What with all the effort you put forth to make sure we don't have to eat only cafeteria food.

[starofpleiades]

[Kazumi is sorting the dry goods, flour and sugar and other seasonings she'd pulled]

Haha, well, I'm definitely grateful, though it's surprising the tower would do something nice for us...

[Which is why maybe she should be more careful opening one of the drawers and sticking her hand with a canister of salt inside without looking]

Ow!

[She pulls back with a cry, the canister hitting the ground and spilling; there's a few cuts on the back of her hand, almost like claws]
