Finally, another party
Characters: ProtoLancer
puppy_lancer, Zero Lancer
oathshackledbird and anyone interested in attending a birthday party. Details here.
Setting: Meadow
Format: Anything goes
Summary: Lancer throws his brother a party. Everyone can come except for the Archer (meaning they can come crash the party anyways)! Feel free to tag into any of the threads set up or invent your own scenario.
Warnings: None yet!
[It had taken some preparing, but the party was finally set up in a satisfactory way. There was a table for food and drink dragged in from the cafeteria, a wooden bucket filled with water with fruit floating in it, a strange paper mache Jason head pinata stacked on a scarecrow body, and a board with a pig with a Ganon head scribbled on it along with several spiraling paper "tails" attached to thumbtacks. There are no party decorations, but Lancer figures the flowers and sunshine should be decoration enough.]
[Now it's just a matter of waiting for people to show up.]

LOL! No worries. I backtag forever after all!
[He motions toward the paper mache head that has been set up on a rough made body a little farther into the meadow.]
But yes, it is amazing what motivation can do, especially when he is doing it for people he cares about. And everyone is having a good time. That makes me quite happy.
How...are you doing since we last met?
[He is a little leery of asking because he doesn't want to bring up bad memories, but at the same time, Hidetoshi is his friend and so he worries.]
:I
[He briefly tracks the motion of Diarmuid's hand towards the crudely-constructed body stuck upright in the meadow before looking back at his face.]
Yeah, that's a good thing to be happy with. This Tower is lacking in that sort of pastime. Hm, actual motivation to complete a task does wonders for the quality of the product turned out as a result... It's difficult to do well with a subject you don't care for.
I am well enough. A good night of sleep [the first night afterwards had been more or less dreamless, thank god (even if the next nights had not been)] and some decent food helped, after my initial reactions. It puts some distance between myself and the memories. And you?
[His response is not so neutral as to be curt, but it's politely worded and obviously trying to be reassuring.]
no subject
[If Diarmuid notices anything odd about how Hidetoshi answers his question, he doesn't mention it. Honestly, he's just happy to hear that his friend is doing better.]
That is welcome news. It is kind of funny how such small things like good food make one feel better. It is why I am so glad to see so much of it here. Did you have the chance to make anything? I know you cook.
[He looks over toward the food tables for a moment, before continuing.]
I am doing pretty well actually. As amazing as it might seem, I think I am finally getting some of those things we talked about through my thick head.
no subject
[And Hidetoshi leaves it at that, not particularly wanting to spoil the nice mood he found himself in. It's good enough to chat with a friend in a non-honstile setting, with warm sunlight and food.]
Yes, I did. I contributed the barbecue. Meat is one of the easiest ingredients to obtain in this tower that isn't made by the administrators, provided there are a few warriors on hand willing to hunt for it. Oftentimes, there's plenty brought into the kitchens on some of the days.
[He points out where the plates of cooked meat that he made are placed on the food tables. Then what Diarmuid just said actually registers and he looks at him proudly;]
That's excellent news for you. I'm pleased to hear it. So, you're beginning to work yourself out of the 'rut?'
no subject
In the end, he decides he's probably better off not knowing.
He looks in the direction Hidetoshi points and then nods.]
Barbecue. Is that what meat prepared that way is called? I have not had it before, but it certainly smelled interesting when I walked passed it before. I will need to try some.
[He seems confused by the pride he hears in Hidetoshi's voice, but smiles anyway.]
I am not sure exactly why, but yes, I believe I am finally finding my way out of the rut. Maybe it's just because so many people have needed me to be strong this month, or maybe it's because I have actually managed to move along a few projects, but I am starting to realize that so many of those things we talked about...I'm not having to fight so hard to remember to apply them to myself.

...
Oh, that's right. I forgot to say 'happy birthday,' Diarmuid-san.
[He put a lot of effort into preparing that cooked meat okay. He loosely curled the fingers of one hand together before relaxing them again. Irish and their strangely sensitive noses, must be a perk of being a Heroic Spirit or something along those lines. The teenager shifts the parcel tucked under his arm, unsure of how to present it to the person whom this party was hosted in name of. It was one thing to gift a peer or a parent with a normal present, but it was spectacular to attempt giving a legendary figure a present from himself.
Why shouldn't he be proud? Somebody had listened to his (and others') advice and felt they were worth enough to pay attention to, and improving their behavior accordingly. He is willing to accept small victories and count the little triumphs. Hidetoshi nods when the older man smiles, noticing the confusion but not really reacting to it beyond that mental note to himself.]
I see. Practice does help. It's one thing to have it preached to you as theory or as a warning away from your self-destructive behaviors, and another thing to become a little more accustomed to putting the kind of topics we discussed into action personally. [It's nice that he doesn't have to struggle to remember to apply them to himself by now.] Success with projects certainly helps to boost moral, at least!

[Diarmuid turns from Hidetoshi to walk over to the table and put some of the meat onto a plate. He pauses in his actions for few seconds when he hears the birthday wish and looks back at the boy over his shoulder.]
Thank you. My birthday was actually a few weeks ago, but my brother never does anything by half measures as you can see. In fact...
[Diarmuid pauses to finish what he had been doing at the table and then walks back over to Hidetoshi.]
Since you did so well helping me out, maybe you can help me with something pertaining to my brother? I worry...
[Diarmuid pauses when he finally notices the package under Hidetoshi's arm and how the boy seems to be fiddling with it. He smiles.]
What's that?
no subject
[That was a gracious gesture Hidetoshi appreciates, Diarmuid. And so does his teenage ego. He waits patiently while the knight walks over to the table to put some of the meat on his plate and then walks back over towards him.
When Diarmuid mentions wondering if Hidetoshi would be willing to help him out in regards to the other Lancer, the teenager's facial expression indicates he would nothing amiss with granting that aide. Diarmuid had good cause to worry about that reckless man. He's sidetracked when the older man notices the present he'd brought.]
It's considered customary to present the one a birthday is held for, with a gift if you're invited to the party. [Stiffly, he withdraws the package from under his arm and holds it out to Diarmuid, telling himself that giving an adult a gift wasn't too weird.] Here.
no subject
It is most certainly not what I expected, but I like it! It helps keep the meat from becoming dry, but I am sure it also helps add variation when you might otherwise be eating the same thing for a long while.
[He can also see where it would be useful in masking a meat that didn't taste that good for whatever reason, but he doesn't want Hidetoshi to accidentally get the idea he thinks the boy is trying to hide something with the taste.]
Would you show me how to do this sometime? I would really like to learn!
[Diarmuid's attention turns back to the package and he smiles as he takes it.]
You didn't need to do that, but I thank you for the kind thoughts. However, your nervous look worries me.
[He turns the package over in his hands examining it.]
Will it attack me once I open it?
no subject
I wouldn't mind that. I have plenty of free time here. It shouldn't be too difficult to arrange later!
[Then he starts teasing and Hidetoshi promptly goes;]
You're mistaken, I'm afraid. I'm not nervous at all.
[He denies that quite convincingly, he thinks. Then he folds his arms across his chest, not tense but not super at ease either.]
It's harmless. There's no need to be concerned.
[If Diarmuid unwraps the packaging, he'll find several pieces of soft, durable cloth, a bottle (nicked from the cafeteria, it seemed) of cleaning fluid and similar equipment.
Hidetoshi had found himself stuck when he had attempted to find a fitting present for the man; he wasn't confident in his knowledge of wildlife to identify berries or fruit on the forest level, and he wasn't so close to him as to know his personal hobbies. so he'd settled on donating a portion of the basic, hasty handmade kit for cleaning and maintaining his own knives he'd hobbled together in the Tower.
If it'd worked for knives, it should work for spears, right?]
no subject
[Diarmuid nods, looking amused at the boy's denial. However, he doesn't call him on it. He is touched that Hidetoshi has taken the time to pick a present for him. Let him be nervous or not at he wishes.
When he opens the gift, he is at first confused as to its exact purpose. Cleaning kits like these were not something that had existed during his first life. However, the grail does eventually supply him with its purpose and when it does, he smiles widely.]
This is wonderful! It's a way to help clean blades, is it not? Did you put this all together yourself? This will be very useful!
[Due to the magical nature of his spear, he doesn't have to use things like this on it, but cleaning it would be a nice reminder of the past and the kit would be extremely helpful keeping the swords Waver had made for him in good shape.]
