Characters: Legolas and OPEN.
Setting: Forest floor, during the day.
Format: Prose to start, will swap though.
Summary: Zelda gave Legolas the ability to use Light Arrows. Cue practicing until exhausted.
Warnings: None?

Following Zelda giving Legolas the ability to use Light Arrows, the elf had found himself pondering just how to use them. He knew, like all of his people, how to force a sleep upon those that might terrorize them or to put fires to 'sleep' but he'd never done anything so fantastic as what Gandalf might do.

This was something he knew that he could do though, with practice. A lot of practice. And the sooner he got started, the better. She had mentioned enchanting his own arrows though, so that was how he would start.

The elf found a familiar spot, one he'd used to train many times before and where he usually started to go hunting, drew back and arrow and tried to focus. She'd said holy magic so he focused on that and tried but fired only a regular arrow. Again he fired and again he fired a regular arrow. He was patient though and kept focusing his energy until, finally, he was able to fire one holy powered Light Arrow at the tree, watching at the light shined as it left his hold and slammed into the tree.

With a grin, one that was noticeably smug, he drew on what he had moments before and fired another.

Yotsuba was a very odd child, and didn't know about things that most children normally knew about sometimes. Not that she really minded, to be honest. It just made the whole world seem more exciting. However, when Legolas said that it was more effective than stones, she looked rather surprised.

"Could Yotsuba use it then?! I have a sling..but if a bow is better, Yotsuba would like to use it to defend myself!"

It did make the world more exciting, he couldn't deny that, but in a tower- no, a world like this, it could prove dangerous. And he was suddenly glad that he could explain this to her now and possibly increase her odds of survival.

"One would have to be crafted for you but yes, you could. You will also need a bracer to protect your arm from the string of the bow."

And Yotsuba was glad that she could use a better weapon and avoid dying again. After all..death was painful, and she didn't want to make people worry, or die for good and not be able to see Daddy and everyone else when they were found and helped.

"Okay! Could I help make it? Yotsuba helped make the sling!"

"If you would like but crafting a bow can be hard work, especially with carving and shaping it."

At least she was willing to learn, that would be beneficial if anything happened to him and to the bow that he would have her use. Although, if he made it, he could be sure that it would endure a great many years, so long as it was properly cared for.

Not that Yotsuba knew about any of that, sadly. All she knew-and was concerned about-that a bow was better than a sling and that she had helped make a sling before, so she might be able to help make the bow and use it.

"That's fine! I've never done it before, so it'll be fun!"

"Very well. We cannot start it today, I've already worn myself out quite a bit as it is."

And Haldir would be terribly cross with him if he worked himself to the point of collapse. Not that he was in any risk of doing so, the prince was far more sturdy than most would expect from someone of his build.

"You'll have to do just as I say though."

"Oh! You had better rest then so you don't get sore!"

..It might seem a bit weird that Yotsuba was trying to tell someone older than her what to do, but it was possible that this person didn't know about being sore and resting.

"Yotsuba will! When can we start then?!"

"Not to worry, pinig. I always take care of myself, even when others think that I don't."

He's half amused at her words but he nods, humoring her for now. So many people thought him young and naive when he'd spent over six hundred years in a realm plagued by shadow.

"Give me a few days, so that I can make sure we'll have what materials we'll need."

"Okay then! It's good that you do! That way, others won't worry! I have a mailbox, so you can send me a letter when you're ready..but what's a..pinging?"

While it probably meant something like 'child' or 'little one', it was still a weird word to Yotsuba, and she was curious about it.

"Pinig."

He said it slowly, enunciating, so she'd remember it. He didn't take offense though, to the mistaking of a Sindarin word, but it never hurt to teach.

"It means 'little one' in my tongue."

"Pinig.."

Yotusba tried out the word to make sure she had it right before nodding and smiling up at the man again.

"Alright! Yotsuba understands now! Diarmuid calls me a little one a lot..but what is your tongue?"

Diarmuid, she was in good hands if she'd already befriended or at least met the warrior. What little he knew about him didn't matter, he had gotten enough of a sense of the man to satisfy his curiosity about his person.

"My first tongue is Sindarin, a form of elvish."

She and Diarmuid had become great friends, but that didn't mean that Yotsuba was always out of danger, since she tended to wander and because Diarmuid had his own life to tend to. He couldn't always keep an eye on her.

"Oh..what's elvish?"

Of course not, nobody could. But when with him, he knew she'd be alright. There was no doubt in his mind about that when Diarmuid was an honorable man when speaking with him.

"The language of the elves."

This, of course, only led to the obvious follow-up question.

"And what's an elf? You're an elf, but how are you different?"

"Elves are one of the Children of Iluvatar, the Creator. We are immortal and strong."

It was refreshing to see someone willing to learn but still he had to wonder how she'd not know these things.

It's what happened when you were a small orphan with more interest than animals than fantasy.

"Oh..I don't know who Il..Illuminator is, but what does he create? He sounds like God..but it's good to be an elf then!"

At least, she thought so.

With a wince, Legolas shook his head. He knew it was ridiculous to find fault in someone having difficulty with words foreign to them but when it came to the Creator of Arda...

"Iluvatar." He said carefully before going on. "He is, more or less, from what I understand of other cultures now. But there are also the Valar, those who follow him, who would be considered lesser gods."

Whether Yotsuba actually understood how Iluvatar was supposed to be said remained to be seen. Right now, she was more interested in the Valar and the fact that Legolas was, as she understood it, a child of God.

"So you're an Angel! That's amazing..but what do the lesser gods do? Is it like a guvernment with a president?"

..Whether Legolas would understand what she was talking about was all in the air.

Angel. He knows that word. It was explained to him once before but he had to think back, remind himself of what it was. The concept was still foreign to him, really but he knew enough to satisfy his curiosity.

"Oh no, no, I'm not. The Valar, from the stories I have heard as I have never met them, bring order to our world."

Not even commenting on the 'president' comment since he had no idea what that even was.

"They sound really important then! Like the police! But..is it possible to meet them?"

She was expecting to hear a 'no' here, but there was no harm in asking. And Legolas shouldn't feel bad about the president comment..Yotsuba only had a vague idea about what it was about anyways.

"It is possible, for my kin and I. No others can find their way to Valinor where they reside."

Even in death, the elves had a far better chance of meeting the Valar than any other. Elves were bound to the circles of the world while Men were not so tied to it as they. In death, the souls found their way to the Halls of Mandos to wait whatever fate would come to them. Rebirth or remaining there.

And, thanks to the way that was phrased, Yotsuba reached a bit of an odd conclusion. While it was odd to hear that this person wasn't an Angel, that didn't mean that she didn't like him.

"How come? If you know the way, you can tell everyone else and guide them!"

"No one else is permitted to find those shores. Elves are immortal and so we grow weary of the world. Others are not and they find peace in death. And so we go to Valinor for our peace."

That they were allowing Legolas to bring Gimli with him, before the tower had happened, was nothing short of a miracle. A miracle that Legolas attributed, in part, to Galadriel and Elrond.

Immortal..if Yotsuba remembered correctly, that meant that a person couldn't die, no matter what. While that didn't sound bad to her, she did understand that this man wasn't able to find peace because of it.

"That sounds really sad..is there any way you can be mortal?"
