He did have a certain nose for the divine; though the divine of other worlds was certainly different than the goddesses he knew from Hyrule.

He's thought, many, many times, that he should die. He should be dead. He should have grown old. But...for every time he thought of it, he'd see Lucifel and be reminded that if he died there was an immortal losing a mortal friend just like he'd been, and he just couldn't inflict that pain on anyone willingly, much less someone he cared so much about.

"I can't say I consider myself lucky for it, except...I am lucky to have my friends."
