Yotsuba!&...

Characters: Yotsuba and you!
Setting: Dorm Room 2-07, the Meadow, and the Mailroom.
Format: I'm starting in prose, but I'll match you!
Summary: After waking up and seeing that Daddy and Jumbo are gone, Yotsuba decides to take Lucifel's advice to heart..and starts making flower crowns and pictures in the meadow, which will be delivered to her friends in the mailroom.
Warnings: Other than loads of cute, nothing at the moment.

When Yotsuba woke up, she didn't expect to be in her bed, like she had the first two times she died. Nor was she expecting the absence of Daddy or Jumbo. Had they run back to their hiding place? Or..maybe the bad people were keeping them away, since they had enchanted them. She knew that Daddy and Jumbo couldn't kill her, so Lucifel had probably put her in bed when she fell asleep. She knew what death was..she just wasn't used to waking up from a peaceful death before.

However, remembering Lucifel reminded Yotsuba of something she had to do to help people, so when she was finally able to move around, she put on her sling, the sash that held the pouch for her sling bullets, gathered up her sketchbook and crayons and set out for the meadow.

Yotsuba, sadly, was not prepared for the weather. While she loved the rain, she was smart enough to know that you couldn't draw on soggy paper. So, she had to quickly run back to the dorm, leave her things there, and run into the stormy meadow to pick flowers, which would be later made into flower chains. One could find her laughing and getting soaked as she worked against the wind and picked flowers. She would have to do her drawing elsewhere, but for now, this was fun!

Finally, one could find Yotsuba dumping her creations and letters into the mailboxes of her friends. If one asked, they might receive a picture too, or a hug.

If Lucifel told Yotsuba everything simply and without lying, then she would understand and help him through it. After all, she wasn't a fool, and, for better or worse, she didn't have as tight a connection to the Angel as Enoch did. Not that it would make things easier for Lucifel's pride.

"It was..but they didn't mean it, so it's okay. I'm sure they'll apologize when we see them again!"

"Yotsuba, listen to me. When you see these shadows again, you have to stay away from them. As long as their enchantment isn't gone they will continue to be mean. And if they stay with you too long you will sleep for days again. Do you understand?"

Telling her to stay away from the shadow children was a good distraction for him.

And there went Yotsuba's smile. Now she was confused and worried, as well as a little sad. So..unless the bad people removed the enchantment or they figured out a way how to, they would still say mean things. Daddy would..still say that he hated her.

"A little..but..was I asleep for days? Yotsuba..didn't die, right? Did they kill us?"

After all, the only other instance where she had fallen asleep for days here was when she died. Normally, she wouldn't do something like that.

Well, damn. So much for that.

"... Yotsuba died in my arms. But I didn't leave her with them."

That much was true. He had gotten her body away from the shadows that had been following her.

"... I... I died too. On the day after."

It felt so unreal to say that. That he had died.

Oh no..that prompted Yotsuba to hug Lucifel's legs again, but this time, she wasn't happy. She was pretty sad and concerned for Lucifel.

"Luci..that's terrible, even if it wasn't painful! Yotsuba didn't know, since it was painful when I died before! But..are you okay now? How did we die? Yotsuba just got so sleepy.."

He would be fine. One way or an other he just had to act as if he would be fine. And maybe he eventually would be okay again.

"They drained our energy away. The fluid of Yotsuba's collar had turned clear. I got sleepy as well."

Putting up a brave front and not trying to deal with his worries would probably make things worse in the end. And not just for him.

"So..they drained our souls? They tried to eat us up so that they could live?"

The archangel should know best, since he had told Enoch something like that not too long ago. But he had a hard time to do just that. Pushing away the thoughts seemed so much easier.

"I don't think they did so in order to live."

And now, for better or worse, he probably knew how Enoch felt in that situation now, even if he didn't realize it.

"Then why? Because they were enchanted?!"

Not exactly, considering Enoch will only ever have to deal with being tainted by vileness. Lucifel had to deal with a fate he didn't know why it would have awaited him. Just that there would be the chance of it happening in the future that would be once the worlds were restored.

"Maybe."

His Enoch would have to face the vileness..but the Enoch here would have to deal with the uncertain fate of Meridian, if they restored everything and were sent back to their own worlds. There were some differences in the feelings..but they were a little similar.

Not that Yotsuba knew of any of this. However, she looked shocked and even more worried at that 'maybe'.

"Maybe?! You said they were, right?!"

Oh no, his Enoch had faced the vileness already and their journey had ended at home. But yes... the Enoch here would have to deal with Meridian's fate and had to end his journey.

"... Right, I did. Sorry Yotsuba, my thoughts are somewhere else."

At that comment, Yotsuba calmed down a little, but she was still puzzled and worried for her friend.

"Where are they then, Luci?"

"I start to believe that they are taking a walk."

Which was pretty much the case, his thoughts were at his possible future if they were able to restore the worlds.

If Yotsuba knew what he was thinking about, then she would say that that he could not do what the souls said, since he knew of the future. Terrible things didn't have to happen.

Sadly though, she was not aware of what he was thinking and was still as puzzled as before.

"Oh..walks are good! They're a lot of fun and you can see a lot of awesome things! But are they okay?"

"Who knows... I hope they enjoy themselves."

It would be better if they returned to him as soon as possible, that much is sure. At the moment he felt like doing a human thing, which is lying down in bed and not getting up for some time. Maybe he will do so tomorrow.

Hopefully they would. That way, Lucifel could make sense of them and-hopefully-be happy again. While he wouldn't tell her what they were about, Yotsuba could tell that he was shook up about them and this whole thing.

"They will! They'll have fun and come back rested!"

..With that, Yotsuba started trying to crawl up Lucifel's pants so that she could give him a proper hug around the neck.

All Lucifel needed at the time being was time. Time he didn't have in this place, time he would have needed to get himself together.

"... Yeah."

For today he just pushed these thoughts away. Just for today. And give this little girl who tried only her best a hug in return. A hug he actually needed himself for once.

There was time for that though. Not a whole lot of it, but, perhaps, just enough to help him out.

While Yotsuba was happy that he was hugging her in return, she really wanted to cheer up her friend, so she tried to pat him on the back with one hand, keeping her grip with the other one. She always tried her best..but even her best here might not be enough to help him out.

They wouldn't know about that until later.

For now distraction might be the best to help him with. Lucifel would pat her back too, but his hands were full. He was just hugging her with his arms right now.

"Does Yotsuba want to hear a story again?"

Not that Yotsuba really minded. Being hugged back was more than enough, since this was mostly for Lucifel. That said, she would take the opportunity to rest her head on his shoulder as she spoke.

"Yotsuba would. Let's hear a super happy story today, Luci!"

Maybe a happy story would help his thoughts come back happy.

"Alright. Any story Yotsuba would like to hear."

Probably not, but Yotsuba shouldn't feel like she failed when she had tried hard to follow his advice.

Even if she shouldn't, that didn't mean that she wouldn't feel a little sad when she found that Lucifel was still shook up.

"No! You're sad, Luci, so you get to pick the story today! And Yotsuba will read to you!"

The archangel looked at her with wide eyes. That was... really cute of her and nice as well. But he had to put her down for a moment to fold the letter and picture to put them in his pockets and the flower crown... well, he would be nice and wear it.

"Then Yotsuba will read a story to me." Even though he doubted she could read.

While Yotsuba didn't expect Lucifel to put her down-and didn't really want to let go-she was happy to see that he did so because he wanted to wear his crown. Hopefully it would cheer him up. It did make his spikes look nicer.

So, smiling, Yotsuba tried to take Lucifel's hand.

"I will! It'll be fun!" Thankfully, Yotsuba could read. She wasn't a great reader, and large words stumped her sometimes, but she tried. And so, without another word, Yotsuba tried to pull Lucifel to the stairs with her so that they could start walking down.
