towerofanimus | Happy Birthday, Ryoji

Characters: You know the drill. Lancer

notsogrimreaper, the people they invited between the two of them, and everybody else who just happens to stumble into the party.
Setting: Floor 25, November 17, morning-evening
Format: Open, anything goes
Summary: It's Ryoji's birthday, so Lancer is throwing him a big party. Anyone is welcome in! (And nobody is gonna kick out those who aren't so welcome)
Warnings: None for now

[It's been a long time since Lancer had thrown any parties. Therefore, he's making this bigger and grander than the last two parties he's thrown. It's a good way for him to distract himself from all the emotional turmoil that had popped up during the battle with Sephiroth, if anything.]

[There's two tables laden with food over at one side of the floor. The centerpiece for that is a big double-tier cake with "HAPPY BIRTHDAY RYOJI" written over the side of the bottom layer. The top layer is little more than a glorified candle holder, as several handfuls of candles have been jammed all over that second layer.]

[Over on the other side, there was a variety of party games. They're all old favorites like pin the tail on the piggy (pinning spiraling paper tails onto a "pig" with Ganon's face), apple bobbing (various fruits in a water-filled wooden barrel), and everyone's favorite--the pinata (a scarecrow with a berry-filled paper mache head supposed to represent Jason).]

[In the center of the floor, there is a stage nailed together from wooden boards. A ways behind that, a pile of wood stacks into a bonfire pyre. A turnip lantern leers at the party goers from one corner of the stage.]

[For decorations, there are black feathers and crude little paper doll cutouts resembling angels scattered around on the ground or in the corners of the dining tables. There are also a few more turnip lanterns.]

[And of course, Lancer, like a good host, stands on the stage, dressed like a hobby horse, waiting for people to show up. He's feeling pretty relaxed, if only because the major unwanted guest, Sephiroth, was locked up and in no danger of crashing this party.]

Um... I don't know. It depends, I guess. I'm sure if you find someone nice enough, you'd be adopted. Diarmuid is very nice, and he took me in even though I'm not really the best child.

I don't like adults much. [ Not all, though! There's some she plenty likes in this place, but she means it more as an "in general" kind of thing. ] So I thought they didn't want to adopt kids a whole lot.

.. I don't know how you're not a good kid though. You seem plenty good.

Ah, I see. Is there any reason why you don't like them? I will admit not all of them are as nice as others...

[He shrugs and looks away.]

It's difficult to explain. I just tend to cause a lot of trouble.

A lot of them never pay attention to you since you're just a kid. [ Obviously she's talking about her own experiences though despite the fact that she's using a general "you".. ] And it's really sad and lonely.

Hm... I guess some of them are like that. But... I guess I'm an adult now, and I'm paying attention to you. I'm sure there are lots of people here that want to make sure you aren't sad or lonely.

.. You're an adult?

[ Please don't take it as an insult, Ryoji, it's more just that Urotsuki is just really, really oblivious at times. ]

You don't seem a whole lot like one.. I think.

Well, sort of! I’m 18, and that’s pretty close, right? But I guess 20 is when I can do everything.

[And technically he’s still way younger than that.]

You really think so? I guess I’m not really the most mature sometimes, heh…

Hmm.. well.. adults are usually all serious. And you're not serious. In a strict way, at least. [ It sounds like she's really thinking this over as she talks about it. ] But you're still older than me.. I'm 15.

[ She was technically 15 when she entered the tower though and that's already a year and a half ago. ]

I wouldn’t want to be strict at all! If I ever get like that, you’ll have to tell me, okay? I don’t want to boss anybody around, even if I am older than them.

Really? And when’s your birthday? Are you going to have a party too?

[Ryoji would be glad to come if she planned on having one, and might even plan it for her if she didn’t.]

[ She nods at him. Sure, she can do that! She'll keep him from being the kind of adult she doesn't like, since that means they can at least be friends, right..? ]

.. I don't know if I'm having a party.. [ She glances at her shoes. ] I didn't have one before either. Not like this one..

Well, you should! If you have a birthday, you should tell me! I can try to make a party like this one, just for you. As long as there’s time.

[That’s what friends do! Friends who are not mean, strict adults.]

A party.. like this..?

[ As she repeats the words, she's already looking around her at the party itself. ]

But.. there's no way that many people would visit a party for me, right..?

I think it doesn’t matter, as long as the people who come are your friends… but hey! I didn’t think anyone would come to my party, and tons of people did. I’m sure lots of people would want to celebrate with you.

.. I'd like to have one, in that case. A birthday party with lots of people, just as big as this..

[ Her voice almost sounds a little like she's daydreaming the further she goes on about it. And she probably is already honestly trying to imagine a party like that with her as the shining middle of it all. ]

A party where nobody has to be lonely anymore.

Then we should have one. When’s the date? I’ll help you plan one, and everyone can hang out and just be happy.

[He notices the sound of her voice, and he smiles. It’s nice to hear someone sound so happy about something. He’s glad that he was part of the source of that.]

It's in October.

[ She shifts her feet a little bit, almost nervously. ]

.. That's still a long while from now, isn't it..? It just passed a little bit ago.

Yeah… and we might not be here this time next year…

I know! How about a Valentine’s Day party? We can plan it together, and it’d still be as big as this.

A Valentine's Day party..? [ .. she goes quiet for a moment, her hand gripping the goggles hanging around her neck for a moment. ]

I... don't know for sure if I should celebrate that right now.

Oh?

[Ryoji quickly realizes his mistake and shakes his head.]

Oh! Right, sorry. I should have remembered.

... Hmm. It's okay. [ She's going to get Kidou back, after all. But not before Valentine's Day, probably, unless Ruana just shows herself and she can kill her and then it's all done.. but that hasn't even really happened anytime before now and it's already been so long, so Urotsuki is not counting on it. ]

I guess.. I'll just have to wait for my birthday. I've never had a party, so waiting a little bit more won't make a change.

I see. I guess I’ll hope we’re all still here to celebrate it… or that you have a really good party back home.

[He’d like to see what she ends up doing, but he’ll need to be back behind the Seal, to look after and support Minato as much as he can.]
