A. Room 4-16, January 1

[The strange noises from floor 101 had drawn Lancer's attention, so he had gone to investigate. To his surprise, he had found a teleporter and a secret floor and Aria's strange machine. Knowing that it was a matter replicator, he had jokingly requested one of his horses.]

[Of course, it was only a joke to him. As he heads back to his room, he doesn't actually expect to hear horse whinnies actually echoing through the halls of the dormitories. As he rushes over to his room, he hears the whinnying increasing in volume, followed by dog barks and the sound of gnashing teeth. In addition, his nose picks up on the distinct scent of both Mac an Chuill and a horse.]

[He more or less kicks the door down the second he arrives at room 4-16. As soon as he pokes his head into the room, he can see Mac an Chuill and a big grey Irish draught horse trying their best to bite, stomp, or claw each other. It seems to be a stalemate, with neither of them successfully wounding the other yet.]

Hey!

[He calls to the horse, followed by a sharp whistle and a wave. Both of the animals pause at the familiar voice, and the horse, forgetting Mac an Chuill's presence completely, rushes over to his master.]

She did it! She really did it!

[Cu Chulainn's voice as he pets his horse is half part delight, and half part surprise. He hadn't expected that Aria would actually be able to give him his horse back, but there she is. Liath Macha, in the flesh.]

I missed you, big guy!

[Standing on his tiptoes, he gives the horse a big hug. He can feel that even with her master present, Liath Macha is still tense about the unfamiliar space and the unwelcome addition to her territory. In addition to her tensed muscles, she's stamping one of her front feet on the ground and letting out irritated snorts.]

...Let's get away from her for a bit, okay?

[Cu Chulainn knows his horse. He knows how wild and spirited and aggressive she is. And he knows the best thing to do is to take her out and work off her energy, then bring her back when she's tired and calm. He pats her on the head and, grabbing her mane, springs on her back in a move that both master and ride are familiar with.]

B. Throughout the Tower, any day

[The look on Cu Chulainn's face as he rides his horse down the stairs and onto floors is one of pure, childish excitement. The giant of a horse stampedes through floors, hopping over or kicking down obstacles. Every so often, it pauses to much on things that attract its interest or its ire. If its owner notices its behavior, then he doesn't care, since he never makes any effort to stop it.]

[Whenever they encounter anyone during their stops, Lancer always calls to them to join him.]

Hey, you wanna get on? It's fun!

I don't see why not as long as she won't try to eat our blankets while we are away.

[Diarmuid laughs.]

We can gather some things for her while we are out if you would like.

[puppy_lancer]

[He nods and leads his horse inside.]

Relax. She can't eat them if they're on her back, can she?

[Diarmuid raises an eyebrow at his brother.]

It was a joke. I know she won't.

[Though, why can he see Edgeworth making that same comment...only seriously?]

[puppy_lancer]

[It takes him a while to tie up his horse, but when he does, he comes back out. He whispers to Diarmuid.]

Okay, I got her covered up and napping. Let's go, and try not to make too much noise.

[Diarmuid nods, beckoning Mac an Chuill to follow him. The dog does silently, almost as if he is already on the hunt.]

Any preferences as to where we go?

Nah, no preference. I already got a good look at a lot of the floors when I was taking her out riding. Which one do you wanna see?

I have little preference either. Floor 6, then? I would suggest Floor 32, but it's gotten quite cold and while that doesn't bother us too much, it does bother Mac an Chuill.

[puppy_lancer]

Sounds like a good place. Are you gonna have Mac An Chuill hunt some of the beasts lurking around there?

Yes. It's a good place for him to stretch his legs and its also good practice for when we go out and hunt bigger monsters.

[Diarmuid frowns as they reach the staircase.]

He isn't as fast as we are, though. It's going to take a while to get down. Do you want to go ahead?

[puppy_lancer]

Nah, I'll stay here and wait with you.

[He turns his back to the stairs and starts stepping down backwards.]

I gotta do something for the big guy to make up for Liath Macha's behavior.

It's all right. As long as no one was hurt, that is the important thing. He shouldn't be upset by her anymore now that I have told him she is 'okay.'

[Diarmuid gives his brother a concerned look.]

Will she attack him if he is not bothering her?

[puppy_lancer]

Uh...probably not. I've told her that he's okay too. She'll get used to him sooner or later.

In the meantime, I'll do what I can to make sure they don't spend too much time alone together. If it ever comes down to it, I am sure Waver won't mind if he comes with me and stays in his room.

[Diarmuid laughs softly.]

They seemed to get along quite well when they met.

[puppy_lancer]

Really? He didn't have to wrestle Mac An Chuill off or anything?

He did not. Though...

[Diarmuid shakes his head.]

...I did have to apologize for Mac an Chuill's tendency to slime those he loves...

[puppy_lancer]

[Lancer almost falls backwards, given how surprised he is.]

Really? No fair!

Hey, careful.

[Diarmuid reaches out in reflex to steady his brother on the stairs.]

Why are you so surprised? He likes you now, doesn't he? Back then he just wanted to find me. It wasn't your fault he wasn't exactly cooperative with you.

[puppy_lancer]

Well, yeah. I just didn't expect anyone to have that easy of a time getting along with Mac An Chuill from their first meeting.

Brother, it's not like he is some kind of feral Fae-beast.

[Diarmuid scowls slightly.]

I will have you know he has gotten along well with everyone he has met so far besides Edgeworth, but that was his own fool fault for glaring at an animal who was growling at him.

[Well, he had also chased Rick, but Rick had been in cat form at the time. It hardly counts.]

Relax, Bro. It's a joke.

[He raises his hands in mock surrender.]

...Wow. Maybe that's why Liath Macha kept trying to eat his cravat.

She didn't like him either?

[Though, that isn't surprising since she doesn't seem to like anyone really.]

He...doesn't really do much better relating to animals than he does people, does he?

Yeah...I feel sorry for him. Poor guy. Must be...sort of lonely for him, right?

I would expect so. I know he is from a world much different than ours, so maybe he doesn't mind being lonely?

[It is hard for Diarmuid to imagine that, though.]

He keeps everything about himself to himself even when it might be better not to. I have been trying to make him realize I am his friend since we arrived here over a year ago, and yet I don't think he thinks of me any different than he does anyone else in the Tower.

[He pats his brother on the shoulder.]

I'm sure he'll warm up to you someday. It's impossible not to do, unless you're a bad guy like Sephiroth.

Yes, he's definitely no Sephiroth.

[Diarmuid falls silent for a moment in thought before adding.]

Maybe he will open up a bit more now that his sister is here and he has her to 'protect'?
